March 11, 2003 — Cinesite completed 172 shots for the production, which involved a combination of 3D modelling, digital matte painting and compositing. Matt Johnson was the visual effects supervisor for the company and Catherine Duncan was the visual effects producer. Effects Associates' technicians were led by special effects supervisor Nick Allder. The floor supervisor was Effects Associates' Dominic Tuohy. Cinesite's shots include a fantasy vision of Victorian London. The sequence features live-action footage filmed at the Vltava river and surrounding bridges in the center of Prague. Johnson flew in a helicopter over London to aid with the filming of various period buildings from a high angle. These elements formed the basis for a series of digital matte paintings completed at Cinesite.
