1. This game may or may not be canon, that has yet to be decided.

2. No Fatalities.

3. There will be finishing moves that finish the opponent in a spectacular way, but it won't be gory.

4. There will be blood.

5. The game will be rated "T", however, Midway is looking to push the "T" rating as close to "M" as possible without crossing the line.

6. Approximately 20 characters total, this could change.

7. Various MK and DC arenas.

8. Freefall Kombat, where you and your opponent fight as you fall after being knocked off, or throwing your opponent, out of an arena.

9. Klose Kombat, where you grab the opponent and the camera goes into a boxing perspective, and you perform brutal attacks up close, making you the aggressor and the opponent goes on defense.

10. Arena destruction and interaction. You can throw your opponent through walls, off "cliffs", and into other parts of the arena.

11. Scorpion, Batman, Sub-Zero, and Superman are confirmed so far.

12. Due to the universal merger storyline, Superman is weakened by the magic effects, making him weaker and a balanced character.

13. MK/DCU will utilize the Unreal 3 engine, as well as original code developed by Midway.

14. The game will be released this fall, sometime between September and December.

15. The game will be for PS3 and Xbox 360. There is no unreal 3 engine for Nintendo Wii, however Ed Boon states that he has no problem with MK/DCU for the Wii if it can be done.

16. The storyline for the game will be written by comic book veterans Jimmy Palmotti (Monolith, 21 Down, Painkiller Jane) and Justin Gray (Jonah Hex, Crisis Aftermath: The Battle for Bludhaven, JLA Classified).

17. This game will not include any elements of previous games. No Konquest, and no Puzzle, motor, or chess Kombat.

18. MK vs DCU will feature a story mode from two different persectives, one from the DC side, and one from the MK side. Ed Boon mentioned that the DC characters will see the MK characters as the invaders, and vice-versa.

19. Ed said that the most "iconic" characters from MK and DC will appear.

20. From the trailer, it seems as though the Graveyard arena from MK3 will appear in MK/DCU, however this could be a completely new graveyard.

21. Classic special Moves will appear, such as Scorpion's spear and Sub-Zero's freeze. It has not been confirmed what special moves Superman and Batman will wield, however, Heat vision and batarangs, respectively, are safe guesses.

22. Daniel Day-Lewis is not in the game. The "there will be blood" poster on Noob.com is to remind people that, there will indeed be blood.

23. An MK vs DCU demo will be playable at E3 from July 15th to July 17th.

24. There will be no stage fatalities or deathtraps. This time around you will have to beat your opponent to death.

I'm really interested to find out which characters were chosen for the game. It will likely have a hero & a villain concept. Batman & The joker, Superman & maybe Darkseid? Also may have a couple bosses Doomsday would fit well in The Goro Type role. Anyways i'm guessing these will be the definite lineup.

MK
Sub-zero
Scorpian
Liu Kang
Johnny Cage
Kung Lao
Raiden
Reptile
Sonya
Noob saibot
Night wolf
Shang tsung
Cyrax

DC
Batman
Superman
Green Lantern
The Flash(even though his moves wouldn't translate well on a game)
Hawkgirl
Nightwing! (this is a bold prediction) He would be great for this game.
The villains are a toss up.

This game is not canon, it is not a part of the series' storyline, however, if it were in the MK timeline, it would take place between MK 2 and MK 3.

The limited edition of MK vs DCU will include a comic illustrated by Mortal Kombat co-creator, John Tobias.

There will be Fatalities, but those fatalities will not be gory, for example, no decapitations, and they may be renamed to something else instead of being called Fatalities. Also, Only MK characters and DC villains can perform "fatalities", while DC heroes, who don't necessarily kill, will sport brutality like finishers that function like fatalities, but aren't actually lethal to the opponent.

Ed Boon stated he fully intends to make the next MK an M-Rated game thats just MK. His intention is to have multiple franchises running side-by-side, the VS. games and the MK games to be released together. He stated this game was not his original intention, but his desire to make a crossover outweighed any drawbacks this game presented.

While there will be blood, the game will be rated "T", however, Midway is looking to push the "T" rating as close to "M" as possible without crossing the line.

Midway's Marketing team knew people at DC and discussed it with them. When DC agreed, the idea was presented to Ed Boon who, after some deliberation, agreed to the idea. So it was Midway who began the crossover.

The storyline for the game will be written by comic book veterans Jimmy Palmotti (Monolith, 21 Down, Painkiller Jane) and Justin Gray (Jonah Hex, Crisis Aftermath: The Battle for Bludhaven, JLA Classified). The DC universe will take place in modern day. From this, I gather there will be no "future" characters like "V" from V for Vendetta.

Current Storyline information:

When a cataclysmic force merges conquerors from two universes, conflict is inevitable. Kombat forces friends to fight, worlds to collide, and unlikely alliances to be forged. In order to save all they know, the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat must wage war against the combined might of the DC Universe. How can either side prevail when rage blinds them to the dark threat poised to destroy them all?

The ending parts of the story mode is quoted as "MADNESS" with "EVERYONE".

A quote about the character selection process, from DC writer Jimmy Palmiotti: "I think it came down to a lot of people's preferences of who would be the best character to put in what situation. We managed to sneak in a few that people won't see coming".

According to Boon, both sides made a Top 20 list of characters, those lists were compared and characters were chosen based on populatiry, then the team looked at logical counterparts. Final character count is still at 20 kombatants, and Boon reaffirms that no new MK or DC characters will appear, and no oddballs like "Krypto the Superdog or crazy things like that"

MK vs DCU will feature a story mode from two different perspectives, one from the DC side, and one from the MK side. Ed Boon mentioned that the DC characters will see the MK characters as the invaders, and vice-versa.

The character count may be 22 characters total. 20 is the minimum expected. As before, half will be MK and half will be DC. Ed Boon said that the most "iconic" characters from MK and DC will appear.

On GameTrailers TV, Boon indicated their may be as many as 12 characters per side, so the roster could potentially range between 20-24 characters total.

The Boss of the game will be two characters merged together from an MK and DC character.

Equally, there will be various MK and DC arenas. Fighting arenas may be actual mergers of two arenas from both universes, like a combination of Shang Tsungs island and something from DC.

Ed Boon mentioned that in the future he'd like to have downloadable content that may include levels/characters.

Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya, Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Kitana, and Jax, have been confirmed for the MK side, and Batman, Flash, Superman, Catwoman, The Joker, Green Lantern and Shazam (a.k.a. Captain Marvel), are confirmed for the DC side.

A note about Superman, due to the universal merger storyline, he is weakened by the magic effects, making him a balanced character. One thing that is not known to some people is that Superman's weakness is not limited to Kryptonite, he can also be weakened by magic.

Some information about special moves has been released. Each character will have about five to seven special moves. The Midway team is trying to add another layer of gameplay within the special moves themselves. With Supermans heat laser, you keep mashing buttons and you get a power charge at the end. With the ground pound, it has the initial hit in it, but theres a very small window right when the fist hits the ground where if you press the button again, it will chain another hit into it. A lot of special moves will have elements like that.

Characters will also have special moves during Freefall kombat.

Klose Kombat won't have special moves, but characters will have unique fighting style, Catwoman, for example was mentioned to scratch the opponent.

Scorpion has his Spear, a Teleport Uppercut, a Teleport Kick, a Leg Grab, Summon Fire, Surrounding Fire. His Fatality is the classic "Toasty". The freefall super-move has Scorpion spearing his opponent, then swinging him back, then slamming him to the ground.

Sub-Zero has his Freezing Ice Ball move, his slide attack. New moves include an Ice Teleport, an "Ice Block" move where he creates a block of ice in the air to drop on the opponent's head, and a new "Self Freeze" move where he covers himself in ice and if the opponent touches him, they freeze, afterwards Sub-Zero appears on the opposite side of the screen and strikes the opponent with his Kori Blade. Sub-Zero's Freefall Super-move shows him freezing the opponent mid-air and Strikes them, sending smashing into the ground.

Sonya has her Leg Grab, Purple Rings projectile (Pro Move), Bicycle Kick (which can be done while in the air), Kiss Of Death stunner, Cartwheel Kick. Her freefall super-move features her doing the Bicycle Kick followed by a charged Purple Rings Blast.

Shang Tsung has his Soul Drain, Fireball (Pro Move), Upwards Fireball, and a New Underground Teleport, and A "switch place" Teleport that functions exactly the same way as Dairou's teleport in MK:A.

Flash, similar to Kabal, can spin his opponent like a top, a Flurry Punch, a Speed Teleport move, a Speed Juggle, a speed teleport uppercut, and a speed teleport flurry punch. Flash's freefall super-move features him grabbing the opponent by the legs and spinning him around at super-fast speeds and throwing him, slamming him brutally to the ground below.

Superman has his Heat Vision(Can be done in the air), Freeze Breath, Super inhale, a Ground Pound (Pro Move), He also sports an exaggerated throw during which he throws his opponent ten feet up before flying up and slamming them back to the ground. A note about Superman's freeze breath, in a recent gamespot video, Ed Boon said they may make Sub-Zero immune to this move before the game's release. Superman's Freefall move shows him blasting his opponent his with a charged up heat vision blast, driving them into the ground.

Batman has his Batarang (Pro Move, and can be done in the air), Returning Batarang, Smoke Bomb Teleport, Flying Kick, Leg Grab, and Cape Block. His freefall super-move has him whipping a batarang at his opponent, sending them slamming into the ground below.

Catwoman has a Cartwheel Kick Pop-up, A Whip Drag, a Lunging Leg Wrap - claw slash, Cartwheel pop-up, Whip-Drill Kick, Whip Crack (Can be done in the air), and an Evasion Flip.

At this time, no information on special moves has been released for Liu Kang, Shazam, Kitana, Jax, The Joker, or Green Lantern.

As for the standard gameplay itself, Freefall Kombat is tied in part to stage interaction. The mode is another player initiated sequence which is kicked off by you flinging your opponent off a stage. Unlike previous games you won't just follow them down or watch yourself drop. Instead the camera will come in and you'll be able to fight on the way down. You'll have a slightly tweaked set of possible attacks in this mode, much like Klose Kombat.

Then there's Klose Kombat. Klose Kombat is a mode you'll initiate which pulls in the camera in close and has its own separate mechanics. Basically, when you initiate the mode you'll be the aggressor and your opponent will be on defense. In this closer view you'll be able to attack your foe's upper body with different types of blows for a set period of time, namely five attacks, the exact duration of which is still being ironed out. To keep things fair, your opponent will be able to perform a number of different defensive moves to dodge your attacks and end Klose Kombat, provided they're fast.

As for general fighting, attacks and special moves will be open-ended, players will be able to create their own combos
rather than bashing out buttons etched deep in the memory. As a result of attacks, masks will shatter, and clothes will tear revealing scarred skin and wounds gained during battle. However, The DC heroes are not allowed to appear in silly situations, such as messed up hair-dos, or missing teeth. The team is returning to the 2D philosophy for the basic combat. Ducking and jumping and flip kicks have a bigger role now, and there is much more attention on special moves.

The game build that was tested showed a beaten and bloody Superman, but Lead Character Artist Luis Mangubat admitted that the build had not been approved by DC yet. MK character damage levels will go far beyond DCs, with Sub-Zeros and Scorpions mask being able to be shattered as an example. There is a gameplay shot of Scorpion without his mask, his upper half head still has the human skin on it, but the bottom half is all skeleton, no lips and no nose.

They go into pretty good detail of the character builds, they seem very proud of it. Every material in the game was built to act independently from everything else. They have different properties for each material used, such as, leather, satin, skin, metal, plastic; each one with its own defined weight and light reflective property.

There will be arena destruction and interaction. You can throw your opponent through walls, and off of high places, and into other parts of the arena. There will be no stage fatalities or deathtraps mid-round. This time around you will have to beat your opponent to death.

This game will not include any elements of previous games. No Konquest, and no Puzzle, motor, or chess Kombat.

MK vs DCU will utilize the Unreal 3 engine, as well as original code developed by Midway. The game will be released this fall for PS3 and Xbox 360. There is no unreal 3 engine for Nintendo Wii, however Ed Boon states that he has no problem with MK vs DCU for the Wii if it can be done.

Comic-Con Q & A:
http://ps3.ign.com/articl
es/893/893888p1.html

Next up was the traditional Comic-Con Q&A. Interesting tidbits included:

A kid asked about Doomsday being in the game as the final boss. The panel said that they couldn't speak to Doomsday specifically but would be announcing the final boss in the coming months.

Two folks in a row asked if the Teen rating was holding the game back. Boon said that they made concessions, but they're happy with pushing the limits that that rating entails.

No Babalities. Focusing on fighting and story mode.

Toasty-guy could possibly be in the game.

Boon did the most subdued "Get over here" I've ever heard.

They're not doing platform specific characters -- it would've pissed people off and it would've hindered the story.

They're looking into DLC.

No environmental Fatalities like the old school spike death.

Smoke's "probably not" in the game.

Different, unlockable costumes? Boon says there'll be differences so Batman vs. Batman doesn't feature too exact clones, but they're still looking into the different ideas.

If fans demand it, a MK comic book series could happen. However, there aren't plans right now.

Extra content -- stuff like the commercials, etc. -- will be in the game.

Cutscenes? Boon says "absolutely."

The game is broken into character-specific chapters. You'll play as the Flash for a while, meet Batman, and eventually switch to the Batman chapter.

A slideshow running during the Q&A featured concept art of the Fortress of Solitude as well as screens of Captain Marvel calling lightning bolts down on his opponent.

A guy begged for Aquaman to be in the game and be badass. Just about everyone laughed at this thought.

Create-A-Fighter not in.

Mortal Kombat vs. Marvel? "It's not in the planning."

The game's not coming to the PS2 or Wii, people. Get over it.

They'd like to do MK vs. Street Fighter, but there's a lot of legal stuff there, and just who would make the game?

A woman stepped up to the mic to say she was here to represent the female Mortal Kombat fans. Someone booed her. You have to love Comic-Con. Anyway, she asked how they created a story that dealt with two universes that were so different. Palmiotti said the biggest thing was crafting a story that made sense. He thinks they have it, but can't talk too much about it.

No in-game weapons.

There are no plans to bring MK back to the arcades, but there's going to be a strong online component. There will be a chat room-like gathering place to challenge folks and here about match results. There will be leaderboards.

The DC idea was presented to the MK team by its marketing department.

Boon says they got the DC characters they wanted -- recognizable faces. No Krypto, Bat-Mite, or Mr. Mxyzptlk

Recent Q & A with Ed Boon:

Question: Will characters be customizeable or have alternate costumes, custom colors?

Answer: (Ed Boon seemed to dodge this question) A character will appear different if both players pick the same character. No real answer to the possibility of alternate costumes was given.

Question: Can you play 2 on 2 like in MK 3 and 4?

Answer: No.

Question: Will there be something like the Krypt?

Answer: There will be special content and additional content like in the collector's edition. There won't be a Krypt per se, but they will have methods of hiding things.

Question: Any animalities or Friendships?

Answer: No, but that's not to say they won't show up ever again, just not in this game.

Question: What kind of mini-games are we going to see?

Answer: None.

*A note: Ed Boon says this IS Mortal Kombat 8 for people who are counting*

Question: In terms of movesets and finishing moves, there were 2 per character, are we looking at similar line-up?

Answer: Yeah, with the special moves, it's actually more per character. Superman has 6 or 7, Flash has the same thing. The final count for fatalities, they haven't come up with yet, because they are still adding that content, but because its part of their focus, thats where a majority of effort will go to.

Question: Does Ed Boon still do Scorpion's voice?

Answer: Yes, but they haven't recorded anything new for this game yet, Ed thinks he will be in the studio recording a new "Get Over Here" line. Gamespot MIGHT record Ed Boon's sound recording session for Scorpion.
