The point of Superman and Batman together is the dichotamy. If you have a darker Superman, then there is nothing to contrast the darkness of Batman.
And yes, Brian Singer sucks. You, my friend, are a genius. He has an Oscar winning film and 2 of the most popular super hero films ever. Yes, you are a genius.
I need to go back to talking to adults for a while.
Now now Longshot....you know better than to bring up Oscars. They mean nothing anymore. For 10 - 15 years if not longer they have been about publicity and political correctness. Very rarely do those who deserve an award actually get it unless there is absolutely no viable competition and other nominees are just thrown in to make it look legitimate.
If the public decided what the best picture is or who the best actor / actress is, then you could create an arguement about Singer's talent based on an award. However, the public didn't give it to him. That's like saying Catwoman was great because Halle Berry has an Oscar. That film sucked and I don't think she deserved the Oscar she got for Monster's Ball. I think it was either a sympathy deal for having to do those scenes with Billy Bob or because the whole show was a tribute to one of the most popular black performers in history which is most certainly why Denzel won for Training Day instead of Penn with I Am Sam.
I don't mean to sound racist because I am far from being one, but you can't deny that sometimes things are done because of various events and what is in the public eye at the time. Just look at the whole gay marriage debate and suddenly we have Brokeback Mountain as a best picture nominee. Award shows are full of crap.
Sorry to stray off topic there for a sec but it had to be done..

The only movie I have seen that he made that I liked is X2. Otherwise, I really don't care for him. I didn't think SR was that well-directed. I don't know, I just don't care for him IMO.

Longshot said: While I agree that the Oscars are a joke and have been since Marissa Tormei won for Uncle Vinnie, the Usual Suspects was a incredible film. As was Apt Pupil. And for my money, so were the first 2 X-Men films. The first one was hurt by the small budget and time constrictions, but a good first effort. So to say that Singir is a bad director is just silly.
True. I can't say he is absolutely horrible at directing. I loved Usual Suspects. It's one of my favorite films. I found flaws in it too, but again, I weigh things out. Apt Pupil I wasn't entirely pleased with but it was overall a good film.
And yes, the budget for the first X-Men is a big reason it wasn't as good as it should have been, but I think better adjustments could have been made in the story than what they came up with. Don't get me wrong, I own all of them on DVD (and I do mean ALL of them ). I just think Singer is better suited for movies aside from comic book films. As a die-hard "stick to the comics" kind of person like me, he tries too hard to be creative and makes changes that just don't adhere to the long standing image readers are used to. Costumes, hair style / color, and such I can deal with, but ages, powers, origins, etc I can't. Those things really should stay true in any medium. Just my opinion. Now now I agree with you to an extent. You said the last 15 years, you mean to tell me that Silence of the Lambs, Unforgiven, Schindlers List, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, American Beauty, A Beautiful Mind, Return of the King, and Million Dollar Baby didn't deserve to win? As for your Brokeback Mountain statement I couldn't agree more but your also forgetting that it lost to Crash another deserving film. So yes sometimes they seem to be political i.e. Shakespeare in Love, Chicago, and Titanic but most of the time it goes to something that is very very deserving. I usually only agree with one or two nominees from whatever catagory. And I can't remember the last time there wasn't any controversy surrounding those who won.
As for those you mentioned, The Aviator should have beaten Million Dollar Baby (even though I liked it less it was a better movie and won in numerous other catagories) and Kate Winslett should have beaten Hillary Swank. I'd go on about the others you mentioned but since we surely don't need a new arguement in here I'll end my opinion here. A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves." - Edward R. Murrow

I mean of course it comes down to opinion but those ones that I stated were not movies that raped the other nominees of a deserving win. They were just as deserving as any other nominees they were up against. Digital Sodom and Gomorrah other wise known as MySpace.
