| How excited (or not) I am to see this movie... |
|
It was an EXCELLENT flick. I wish more movies were like this.
The premise is that once Joel(Jim Carrey) discovers that his girlfriend Clementine(Kate Winslet) had their relationship erased from her memory, he opts to have the procedure done himself. We get to see the memories as their being erased. And due to a glitch, while Joel is unconscious and his memory of Clementine is being erased, he's aware of the erasure. And once the realization that the good memories are being erased with the bad, he tries to find a way to keep the memory alive.
This was just excellent. Carrey is better than I've seen him before. I thought he did a good job in The Truman Show, but he blows that performance out of the water. He really does have the chops to make it as a serious actor, so long as he doesn't abandon comedies all together.
Watching the memories as they get erased is done really well. Sometimes it's obvious (houses fall apart, entire groups of people disappear), other times, subtle (covers of books in the background erase, scenery fades and blurs). And seeing these good memories erased, you get just as heartbroken as Joel does. You want to see him prevail, and you want him to beat the the procedure. Will he? See the movie.
Once this comes out on DVD, it will join my collection, for sure. |
