Plot:Milla Jovovich is back as Alice, and she's running with a new pack of humans, leading a caravan that's cutting through the Nevada desert on a long trek to Alaska. Hunted by the minions of the perpetually scheming Dr. Isaacs, Alice has zombies hungry for her flesh, and lab rats hungry for her blood...while Alice is hungry for only one thing...Revenge.

Cast: Milla Jovovich, Mike Epps, Iain Glen, Oded Fehr, Ashanti Douglas, Ali Larter, Chris Egan, John Eric Bentley, Chris Durand, Peter O' Meara, Geoff Meed, Spencer Locke.

My Thoughts:Likeable follow up to "Resident Evil 2"

Review:I wasn't very sure what to expect from "Resident Evil 3:Extinction" considering it takes the story where it left off in "Apocalypse" and moves it into the desert. I really didn't think the story could survive such a drastic change in venue. But overall, in my eyes....it was a pretty good close to 90 minute followup on "Resident Evil:Apolcaypse". This film picks up after a lrage chunk of time has passed after the events of "Resident Evil:Apocalypse". The T-Virus infection has now claimed the entire world, similar to how after "Day Of The Dead", "Land Of The Dead" introduced a world overrun with zombies instead of just a section of the U.S. Despite the entire world being overrun by the undead, a small group of humans both good and bad have managed to somehow escape it all.

This includes Alice, L.J., and Carlos from the second movie. What happened to Jill and Angie? The film doesn't give us that answer at any point, so we're left to assume they're either dead, alive somewhere, or everyone just completely forgot about them. Carlos and L.J. are leading a convoy of young survivors to safety across the desert, led by newcomer Claire Redfield, played by one Ali Larter and joined by another newcomer Nurse Betty (Ashanti Douglas). Alice at the start of the film is trekking in a similar direction on her own, and off Umbrella's radar, and while normally that would mean an uneventful trip for her, at th ebeginning of the film through a series of pretty entertaining moments, we learn that apparently isn't the case.

Speaking of Umbrella, they too have survived the overthrowing of human kind by the undead by taking their operation underground. Led by the sinister Dr. Isaac's, they've moved on from trying to coral Alice, to now trying to replicate the success they've had with Alice through numerous clones of Alice. After many of the clones continue to fail a plethora of tests, and Isaac's attempts to domesticate the zombies fail, he decides that they must track down the original Alice if they want to have any shot at stopping the infection and finding a cure to the T-Virus. But Isaac's has his own in house battles to fight, since now one of his superiors (and a well known character from the games) has stepped in to oversee his operation to avoid anymore failures.

"Resident Evil:Extinction" doesn't offer up as many memorable moments as the first sequel, but it does deliver pretty well in the spots that it should. The action is there, the explosions, the stunts, the amazing fight scenes, the honorable scarifice-yourself-so-oth
ers-can-live scenes...they're all here in this movie. Which keeps the film on par with the first sequel, despite it's questionable locale. It's basically a slight retread of the first sequel, just with some new characters tossed in, a new boss monster for Alice to kick around, and a new super computer who acts as the total opposite to the homicidal red queen seen in part 1. Ali Larter does a good job as Claire Redfield, and although she lacks the top notch hand to hand combat skilsl of Alice, her precise aim and talent for plugging zombies in the head with a bullet just in the nick of time make her character fun to watch.

Despite the fact that she doesn't get as much screen time as some would think she deserved. Mike Epps as L.J. is alot more toned down in this movie compared to "Apocalypse", and Carlos (Oded Fehr) is basically reduced to a fodder character who chats it up more than he fires his gun. Despite both of these characters not being their usual selves from the first sequel, their fates will surprise many I'm sure. Ashanti as Nurse Betty is one of the films few interesting characters next to Spencer Locke as K-MART. Both characters don't get a ton of screentime but make very well do with what they do get. One thing ti note is Milla Jovovich as Alice, who seems to step it up a notch in every film, including this one where her character seems to have gotten tougher over the time period between this film and "Apocalypse".

The pic pretty much sets up the same gola in the end though, the caravan of survivors having to get to safety, and then a decision to head for Alaska after an attack by t-virus infected animals slims down some of their numbers. The plot in that regard is similar to "Apolcaypse" where instead of a caravan, it was Alices job to get a group of survivors on foot to safety. Despite it's non-stop action and intense fight sequences, the film does have a flaw in that it still fails to delve deep enough into the Umbrella corporation and introduce any new monsters. Umbrella in this film is portrayed as your usual evil corporation in almost every movie, with behind-the-scenes power struggles, and severe penalties for not following orders.

Iain Glen as Dr. Isaac's does come off as more evil in this movie, which is evident when he sacrifices two of his own employees to an escaped super-zombie in order to save himself. But other than a massive mutant hybrid which makes a short appearance at the end, and despite a pretty cool final fight and overall climax...this film like the sequel slacks off on the number of new monsters it introduces. I for once would like to see one of these films break out as many monsters as they do zombies.

Perhaps cram every monster untouched so far from the "Resident Evil" universe into the fourth film? It's a pipedream I know, but this moviegoer is getting tired of the constant dog and zombie show. "Resident Evil:Extinction" does an excellent job of wrapping up what you could call the "Raccoon City Trilogy". Now that Milla is reportedly walking away from the series for good, perhaps part four can move on to another aspect of the "Resident Evil" universe.

Positives:Good performances by Jovovich, Locke, Larter, and Ashanti. Great action sequences, a suitable amout of blood and gore, and a great final fight scene.

Negatives:Too many zombies, not enough monsters. A few character fates I could've done without.

Overall:Above average third installment of the popular franchise.

I totally agree with you. I was at Comic Con 2007 in San Diego and met the cast and director Paul WS Anderson. We got to ask him questions and I asked him if Leon Kennedy was going to be in it. He inadvertently said he thinks that its much better to have girls kicking ass than guys, if i was into that sort of thing. A simple yes or no would have sufficed. there needs to be more monsters in the game and more of a story line to the Umbrella Corp. I'm hoping to God that they make part 4 with Leon Kennedy (he's my favorite character) and Ali Larter as Claire Redfield did do a good job, but she looked nothing like her game counterpart!! So hopefully they will do better the next time around. In my opinion, the best game-to-movie was Silent Hill. It stayed true to the formula and was awesome. I can't wait for part 2.
