Why didn't they just make the movie like the game in the first place? It's not hard, just follow the game script, that's it. Add better actors, and call it a day. But the movies are still alright I guess, but... still I would have loved tohave seen the very first RE be a movie. What do you guys think?
Honestly, I'm glad it's not like the games... do I really want to watch what I play? It won't be as creepy (since you're no longer in the action but just observing it), it won't be as intresting when I know what's going to happen, and on top of all of that - everyone will bitch because of the little things. The games are over 8 hours each and contain numerous in-game puzzles and finding keys... these things wouldn't work on the big screen and I'm fine with that but fans are split 50/50 on this subject... plus theres the problems with the multiple stories... I mean, there's no way both Chris and Jill's story both happened... that would irritate more fans then just creating a new story in the universe.
Well I didn't mean it like that. But I do understand what your saying with Chris and Jills story. What I meant was, try to keep the same characters and most of the story line. I mean in the first movie, all new characters?? Come on, why couldn't they just use the characters from the game?
I just think they could have done better.
But that is just me. I don't really like the Alice character. The character is cool, but it's like they are making it for her and her only. In the games, yes it told the story of the STARS and what not, but the main story is how a corparation is taking over a small town and having people come up missing and stuff like that. The characters are just there to guide the story along. The main focus should be Umbrella. Not Alice and how they destroyed her life, blah blah blah. She should be happy that she can do the things she does.... ok I'm rambling, I will stop.
But back to the point, I just think the story of the movies should have been like the ones in the game, not like it is now, that is all. You can't stop Evil, you can only slow it down!

Because of George Romero... his script butchered the characters in such a horrible way and Capcom fired him without even telling him. He posted on his site that he found out he wasn't doing it when Paul Anderson was announced as the writer/director. Shady of Capcom but after reading his script I understand why. Capcom wanted to keep the stories seperate so if the film bombed it wouldn't hurt the games future. They have been in control of what characters could/couldn't appear and what stories could/couldn't be used in each film. And if they did use more Chris or Jill, lots of fans would be pissed with how the characters story was portrayed. Unless it was a sequel to the games... in which case you'd be closing off an entire audience and limiting the films only to fans of the games.

Don't worry, the rambling is cute and I understand what you mean. They approached the situation so differently for a number of reasons... but primarily it all falls on what Capcom would allow... after the first film, the focus could've been more Umbrella/less Alice but (as the first was pretty much about Umbrella but through the eyes of a stranger to the environment) it wouldn't have been able to do what the film needed to... see, I always look at the first for what it is - an original story (or prequel to the first game) set in the universe of the games but never directly altering the game's events nor contradicting them. The second film is the only successful game-to-film adaptation that manages to take the original story from the first movie and blend it into the game universe without really hurting the events of the game nor ignoring the audience whom enjoyed the first film and has never played a game. It seemed like a natural progression.
I mean, Anderson COULD write his stories with the game characters and events without creating a travesty (he did do the first Mortal Kombat, after all) but Capcom was very strict after they saw what Romero tried to do. Although I'd love to see a film staring the game characters - I'll manage to accept the film character as the main character of her story and the games characters as secondary characters since I know I'd rather be playing as those characters in the games... errr... I rambled and may have said something that might not make sense... lol. |
