Anticipation Level:
How excited (or not) I am to see this movie...
Jim Carrey + Comedy = sure fire hit. Right?
Movie Review:
My thoughts on this movie...
Not entirely, as it seems that Jim Carrey here is playing second fiddle to the 3 orphans (all of whom possess no real screen presence when compared to Carrey), resulting in a movie that is patchy and dull and when Jimbo does turn up he seems to be a mix of the Grinch and the Cable Guy (though not as funny as either of them). In the past I have watched many Carrey movies which have had me rolling in the aisles, alas during this movie i merely grinned a couple of times at his continuing gurning. The script and the plot holes also let this film down, and Carreys performance doesn't really mix well with the source material. The incessant baby "subtitles" grow tiresome very quickly, and her penchant for biting never really has a point. A few inspired scenes (one of which is an admittedly impressive sequence involving a collapsing house with the kids inside) earn it an extra star. Jim Carrey tries to humorously kill 3 kids to get tons of cash. It sounds like a comedy dream come true. I'm afraid it isn't quite there. Only for the Lemony Snicket fan methinks.
