Fandango, the nation's leading movie ticketing destination, announced today that new ticketing records were broken by "Spider-Man 3," which enjoyed a projected $148 million domestic opening weekend at the box office. Spider-Man 3 now ranks as Fandango's daily ticket-sales record-holder. The previous daily record-holder was "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," followed by "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," then "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith."
"It's a harbinger of a terrific summer at the movies," says Ted Hong, VP Marketing for Fandango, "Spider-Man 3's advance ticket sales have been nothing short of sensational, and as of Sunday morning, ticket sales are still going strong. We are pleased that millions of moviegoers are taking advantage of the ease of Fandango to avoid 'sold out' signs at the theaters this weekend."
In an online poll on Fandango, "Spider-Man 3" moviegoers were asked about the other summer movies they were most looking forward to seeing on the big screen. This summer's most anticipated movies, ranked in order, are Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Shrek the Third, Transformers, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Simpsons Movie, Ocean's Thirteen, Live Free or Die Hard and Evan Almighty.
Fandango has recently added new features to its site so that it continues to be the leading moviegoer destination. Among the additions are more extensive content in the form of commentator articles, blogs and interviews, expanded user ratings and reviews, and easily browsable collections of movie trailers, clips and photos. Not changed is Fandango's user-friendly interface for showtimes and tickets.
