I've been busy. This is in spoiler tags, since it's the sequel to my idea of "The Incredible Hulk II", which is of course based off of this summer's awesome film. If you've read and finished "Hulk II", then read this. I hope you liked the last story, and will like this one even more: "THE INCREDIBLE HULK III" FAN FICTION WRITTEN BY STUART GREEN, A.K.A. YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD COMIC CRITC [SPOILER] EXT. GAMMA BASE - DAY The Base is still damaged from the attack that occurred there. INT. GAMMA BASE - LOWER LEVEL 5 HALL - CONTINUOUS The debris on the ground has been cleared up and the holes in the ceiling and walls have been boarded up. Two Soldiers walk down the hall and to the elevators. INT. GAMMA BASE - CONTROL ROOM - CONTINUOUS Several CONTROL ROOM GUARDS sit at their desks and type on their computers. Some Guards are looking through security camera footage. GENERAL THADDEUS "THUNDERBOLT" ROSS stands at the side wall, wearing an Army uniform and a headset. Ross stares at the various monitor screens hooked onto the side wall. They show security camera footage of street corners, neighborhoods, bus stops, etc. Ross pushes a button on his headset. ROSS Change to the footage to the next fifteen miles. The monitors change and show footage of other areas -- a bus stop, a shopping center, a McDonald's, etc. Ross looks over from one monitor to the next. Ross taps the button of his headset. ROSS Come in, Unit One. What do you have to report? SOLDIER 1 (OFF SCREEN/O. S.) (on headset) Nothing yet, sir. There's no sign of the target. Ross taps a second button on his headset. ROSS Report, Unit Two. What's your position? SOLDIER 2 (O. S.) (on headset) We're at the Harnell Bus Station now, sir. We've checked all of the security (MORE) (CONTINUED) 2. CONTINUED: SOLDIER 2 (O. S.) (CONT'D) (on headset) footage from the last seventy-two hours. The target wasn't sighted here. ROSS Check back farther in the records. Make sure every area is checked. Ross pushes a button on his headset and shuts it off. He looks at the monitor screens and looks at the security camera footage of alleyways, roads, apartment buildings, etc. ROSS (sighs) Where have you gone? CUE A FAMILIAR TUNE -- THE "LONELY MAN" THEME. Ross looks at the monitors. EXT. ROAD - DAY THE THEME PLAYS ON. At the side of a long stretch of road, we find a man, seen from behind. He is wearing a denim jacket over his shirt, stretchy purple pants, sneakers, and carries a bag in his hand. A watch is worn on his left wrist that monitors his heartbeat. The man walks on by, as cars pass by on the road. The man turns around and reveals the sad face of DR. BRUCE BANNER. He sticks out his thumb to an approaching red Ford Focus. It drives past him and zooms on by. Bruce watches the car leave, turns around, and continues to walk down the road. A TITLE CARD APPEARS... TITLE CARD DAYS WITHOUT INCIDENT: Next to the : of the title card is a countdown clock. It quickly counts down and stops at 12. THE TITLE CARD AND COUNTDOWN CLOCK BOTH FADE AWAY. Bruce continues to walk on down the road. A car passes by, driving farther ahead. Bruce turns around as he sticks out his thumb. A black Ford truck drives ahead, past Bruce, and Bruce turns around as he watches the truck drive off. The truck turns right to an exit road and drives off. Bruce continues to walk ahead down the road. (CONTINUED) 3. EXT. KIRBY LANE - DAY Bruce walks down a sidewalk, among a crowd of people that walk on ahead. Bruce finally stops at the end of the sidewalk. He notices a hotel in the distance. Bruce looks at the sign ahead. It changes from DON'T WALK to WALK. Bruce and several other people walk on across the street, as a few people walk across the street in the opposite direction. INT. COREA HOTEL - ROOM 300 - DAY The door opens and Bruce walks in from within the hall. He looks around at the fairly large room, with a living room ahead of him, the door to the bedroom to his left, and to his right is the dining table, next to the kitchen. Bruce closes the door, locks it, and sets his bag down. He sets down his room key and walks ahead. INT. COREA HOTEL - ROOM 300 - AFTERNOON Bruce sits at the dining table, holding the hotel's phone to his ear. He picks up a hotel pen with his right hand. BRUCE And which way do I turn to get to the Institute? (a beat) Uh-huh. He writes down on the notepad. BRUCE Uh-huh. (a beat) Yes. (a beat) All right. There's a long pause. Bruce continues to write. He nods and stops writing. BRUCE All right. (a beat) I will. Thank you very much. Goodbye. Bruce hangs up the phone. He reaches into his wallet and pulls out all of the money he has -- $100. He frowns. There is a quick DOUBLE KNOCK on the door. Bruce looks up and at the doorway, startled. (CONTINUED) 4. CONTINUED: WAITER (O. S.) Room service. Bruce SIGHS, relieved. He stands up and walks to the doorway. Bruce opens the door and looks at the elderly WAITER in the hall, with a tray of food held in his hands -- a plate with ham slices and mashed potatoes, a bowl of salad, and a glass of milk. WAITER Here's your food, Mr. B. BRUCE Thanks. Here. He gives the Waiter a $5 bill. The Waiter smiles and gives Bruce his tray of food. WAITER Make sure you eat all of that food, now. You need to take care of yourself and keep up your strength, after all. BRUCE Thanks, but I've got more than enough strength as it is. Have a good day. WAITER You too. The Waiter turns and walks off down the hall. Bruce gently kicks at the door and it closes. EXT. JOSHUA LAMBERT INSTITUTE (JLI) - AFTERNOON Bruce walks across the street, with his hands in his pockets. He walks ahead and towards the Institute Center. The Main Building is the tallest, standing 20-stories high, while two 10-stories tall research buildings are behind the main building. INT. MAIN BUILDING - JOSH'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS Bruce sits on a chair before the desk of DR. JOSHUA LAMBERT - mid-40s, with gray hair. Josh is wearing a dark gray business suit with a blue neck tie. JOSH What kind of experience do you have with radiology, Mr. Bixby? Are you at all familiar with any of our projects we've been working on here? (CONTINUED) 5. CONTINUED: BRUCE Yes. I have to admit, the current radiation therapy experiments your company has been working on caught my eye. JOSH (smiles) Topolov's department. You're talking about the experiments he's been doing with gamma radiation. BRUCE Gamma rays, x-rays... I understand you need some more assistants in the main lab. JOSH All of the positions have been filled. We hired the last assistant just last week. BRUCE You have? (a beat) Please. Please, tell me there's a way I can get involved. I've been worked on similar projects like this before. I really need this job. JOSH Sounds like getting that job is pretty important to you. BRUCE Trust me, sir, you have no idea. A beat. Josh rubs his chin. JOSH I'll tell you what. You can sit in with the other assistants, learn what you can, help out with the research. Tell them I said you've got the job. BRUCE Oh, thank you, Mr. Lambert! You won't be disappointed! JOSH I sure hope not. Come on. Let me introduce you to a couple of people. (CONTINUED) 6. INT. MAIN BUILDING - TOP FLOOR HALL - AFTERNOON Bruce walks with Josh past the elevators, to the right side of the hall and they walk down towards the radiology wing. Walking towards them from the other end of the hall is ZACK LAMBERT - early-30s with dark brown hair, and wearing a light gray business suit. ZACK Is this the new kid on the block? JOSH You could say that. David Bixby, I'd like you to meet my baby brother, Zack. He's the head scientist of the radiology department and Dr. Topolov's personal assistant. Zack and Bruce shake hands. ZACK It's nice to meet you, Mr. Bixby. BRUCE (ends the handshake) Likewise. Tell me, how many other assistants are in the main lab? ZACK Right now, you make eleven. To tell you the truth, you're lucky you got into our department. TOPOLOV I'll say. Zack turns around as DR. YURI TOPOLOV - late-40s, balding and wearing a black business suit - walks down the hall. He stands next to Zack and looks at Bruce. TOPOLOV You must be our new assistant, Mr. Bixby. Welcome to the lab. Topolov and Bruce shake hands. BRUCE Thank you, Dr. Topolov. TOPOLOV (ends the handshake) Shall I show you around the lab? (CONTINUED) 7. CONTINUED: BRUCE Yes, sir. TOPOLOV Good. Let me give you the tour. Topolov turns and walks off down the hall. Zack, Josh and Bruce follow him down the hall. INT. MAIN BUILDING - MAIN LAB - AFTERNOON The ASSISTANTS sit at desks around the room, wearing lab coats. Some are typing on computers, some are analyzing test samples, etc. The chair by one desk is vacant. The doors slide open and the Assistants all stop working. Topolov enters the room, and Josh, Zack and Bruce follow them in. TOPOLOV This is the main lab. This is where you will assist me with my experiments and conduct our tests. We're currently working on new ways to accelerate the decay of irradiated materials. Topolov walks past the Assistants and over to a corner office. He opens the door and turns on the light. The office is average sized, with a laptop set on the desk. TOPOLOV (CONT'D) This will be your office. It's not very big and there's not much for now, but it's all yours. BRUCE It's perfect, Doctor. Thank you. When would you like me to start? Topolov smiles, pleasantly surprised by his reaction. TOPOLOV Immediately, if you'd like. BRUCE I'll get to work. One of the assistants, DANIEL DEVRIES - mid-30s with red hair and a goatee - turns to another assistant. DANIEL Did you see the new guy? Could the guy be any more of a kiss-up or what? (CONTINUED) 8. CONTINUED: Topolov turns his head to Daniel and sneers. TOPOLOV You could learn something from Mr. Bixby, Daniel. Now stop complaining and get to work. INT. MAIN BUILDING - BRUCE'S OFFICE - AFTERNOON Bruce sits at his desk and is working on his laptop. Bruce clicks his mouse on the toolbar and types in the words GAMMA RADIATION TREATMENT. A screen pops up and shows a file of a gamma experiment. INT. MAIN BUILDING - TOP FLOOR HALL - CONTINUOUS UNKNOWN POINT OF VIEW (POV) - Someone stares in through the window and looks at Bruce. He doesn't notice. He continues to work. INT. MAIN BUILDING - BRUCE'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS Bruce looks at the screen. He scrolls down the page slowly as he reads over the data. There is a KNOCK on the door. Bruce keeps his eyes on the screen. BRUCE Come in. He hears the door open, but he doesn't look up. He keeps his eyes on the screen. FEMALE VOICE (whispers) Bruce. Bruce turns his head to the door and looks on in shock. Standing in the doorway is DR. BETTY ROSS. She's wearing a lab coat over her clothes and an ID badge is clipped to her coat pocket. She softly smiles at him. BRUCE Betty? Betty walks in and closes the door behind him. BETTY (whispers) Actually, I'm Jennifer Feige here. (normal tone) I've been here for about a week now. (CONTINUED) 9. CONTINUED: BRUCE You're one of Topolov's assistants? BETTY You told me back at Samson's home that you were studying his work, just like I was. I figured if you were going to go on looking for a cure, this would be the first place to find you. BRUCE You shouldn't have come, Betty. Your father will be looking for you...for me. He's not going to give up until you're back in Virginia and I'm in custody. Betty sits on a chair next to Bruce. BETTY I know. But this was my choice to make, Bruce. I told you before that you're going to need help. You can't keep running and keeping people away when they get close. I'm here now. Let me help you. BRUCE Betty, I -- Betty glares at him. She shakes her head. BRUCE All right...Jennifer...I just want you to listen to me for a minute, okay? What you're planning to do is very dangerous. After what happened with Dr. Sterns, back at Gamma Base... BETTY (interrupts) I'm well aware of the risks. And I'm not going to be scared out of here by your warnings. Let me help you. Don't push me away without giving me the chance to try. The door opens and Bruce and Betty turn around to see Topolov enter the room, with a folder held in his hand. TOPOLOV Excuse me, Dr. Feige. I wasn't aware you were in here. (CONTINUED) 10. CONTINUED: (2) BETTY I was just saying hello to my old friend. TOPOLOV Old friend? You know Mr. Bixby? BETTY Oh, yeah. We go way back. Betty looks at Bruce. He smiles and nods at Topolov. BRUCE She just found out I was here. She came by to say hello. TOPOLOV Well, not to interrupt your reunion, but I have your work schedule for the week here and some papers on what we're working on. I want to make sure you're prepared and caught up. Topolov hands the file to Bruce and he nods. BRUCE Thank you, sir. I'll be ready by tomorrow. TOPOLOV Good. Now if you'll excuse me, I have work to finish. Topolov turns and walks out of the room. He closes the door behind him. Betty looks over at Bruce. BRUCE All right. We'll try it your way. But if anything happens... BETTY (interrupts) I know. It's okay. It's going to be okay...So, where are you staying? BRUCE For tonight, I've got a hotel room to stay in. For tomorrow, that's another matter entirely. BETTY How much money do you have left? (CONTINUED) 11. CONTINUED: BRUCE Not enough for a second night. BETTY I can help you with that. Meet me in the lobby tonight after work. EXT. BETTY'S RENTAL HOUSE - NIGHT Betty is at the wheel of a red Toyota Camry and Bruce is in the passenger seat. She drives her car down the road, slows it down, and parks at a small one-story house. Bruce and Betty unbuckle their seatbelts, open the doors, and get out of the car. As he gets out, Bruce picks up his bag from his lap and holds it in his hand. They close the car doors and walk to the red-bricked house. BRUCE How are you able to afford this place? BETTY I got some help picking out a rental home and paying for it for a while. BRUCE Leonard, right? Betty gets to the front door and puts her key in the doorknob's keyhole. BETTY Don't worry about it. It's not much, but it's got plenty of space. INT. BETTY'S RENTAL HOUSE - NIGHT The door opens and Betty enters the house. Bruce follows Betty in and looks around. The house is mostly vacant, with a couch in the living room, a small TV set by the side wall, and a bookshelf on the side wall. BRUCE You're right. There is plenty of space. BETTY What? I've only been here a week and I've got a limited budget, after all. BRUCE No, it's great, really. I just didn't know how you got down here so quick. (CONTINUED) 12. CONTINUED: BETTY I got a late-night plane ticket last week. I don't have much in the house now, but I've got the essentials. INT. BETTY'S RENTAL HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT Betty walks into the kitchen with Bruce. On the counter are a few empty grocery bags. Bruce opens the freezer door and sees it is half-filled with a bag of corn on the cob, a bag of frozen vegetables, a large Freschetta Pepperoni Pizza, and other food items set inside. Bruce closes the freezer door and he opens the refrigerator door. Bruce finds it half-filled with cans of various sodas, milk jugs, cartons of eggs, and some other food items. BETTY Are you thirsty? Would you like a drink? Bruce shakes his head and closes the fridge door. BRUCE Not right now, thanks. Nice place. BETTY I know. It was the last house for rent so close to the lab. Come on. INT. BETTY'S RENTAL HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT The door opens and Bruce and Betty enter the bedroom. A lone bed is set across the back wall of the room. Nearby is a desk with a laptop and a small clothes drawer, with a lamp and alarm clock set beside on top of the drawer. BETTY I'm sorry the bed isn't bigger. The couch folds out into a bed, if you'd like to have it. Bruce nods. A beat. He looks over at Betty. BRUCE Thank you for helping me, Betty. I really appreciate all of this. BETTY You don't have to thank me. It's going to be all right, Bruce. It'll all work out. You'll see. (CONTINUED) 13. CONTINUED: Bruce nods, a bit sad. Betty smiles and holds his hand. BETTY Can I get you something? BRUCE No, I, uh...I think I'm just going to unfold the bed, grab a quick shower, and go to bed. We've got a long day tomorrow. BETTY All right. I'll check on you later, okay? BRUCE Okay. Bruce turns and walks out of the room. INT. RENTAL HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - EARLY MORNING The couch has already been folded into a bed. Bruce is asleep on the bed, with an alarm clock set on a small table to his left. The clock reads 6:15 A.M. He rolls over, and tosses in his sleep. Bruce's eyes shut tighter as he tenses. The sounds of distant GUNFIRE echo out and Bruce rolls onto his side -- EXT. PARK - AFTERNOON - BRUCE'S NIGHTMARE HULK'S POINT OF VIEW (POV) - A group of Soldiers are on the grassy ground, with their guns aimed at him. The Soldiers fire at him, and two jeeps drive up from behind them to join them. The jeeps stop and open fire too. CAMERA MOVES IN AS HULK (O. S.) GETS CLOSER, and the Soldiers SCREAM with fear. HULK (O. S.) ROARS with rage and punches a massive green fist at one jeep -- INT. RENTAL HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - EARLY MORNING Bruce GASPS as he sits up, his eyes wide open and he has broken out in a cold sweat. He wipes the sweat from his brow and lowers his head. Betty enters the room, wearing a closed robe over her nightgown. BETTY Bruce? Are you all right? BRUCE I'm fine...Just a bad dream. (CONTINUED) 14. EXT. ARMY BASE - MORNING Several military jeeps and vans are parked in the huge parking lot. A helicopter lowers down and at the far side of the base. The base's main building lies a few dozen feet in the distance, with four larger building surrounding the area. INT. ARMY BASE - CONTROL ROOM - CONTINUOUS Several SOLDIERS sit at control stations around the room, with futuristic laptops and/or computers on their work desks. Hooked up to the front wall are thirty large monitor screens, with ten in each row stacked on top of the other. The screens show various security camera footage of bus stops, train stations, etc. The doors slide open and GENERAL JOHN RYKER enters the room, wearing a four-star General's uniform. Ryker is mid-40s with gray hair and dark eyes. He walks down the room and he walks over to the desk of a CONTROL ROOM (C.R.) GUARD. RYKER Anything new to report? C.R. GUARD 1 No, sir. We've checked every inch of the city. There's no trace of Banner. RYKER Expand the search. Check every inch of the city. I don't want to lose him. C.R. GUARD 2 Sir, we've got a problem. Ryker walks over and to the desk of C.R. GUARD 2. The screen shows a file on the screen. The words ACCESS DENIED are across the file. RYKER What is it? C.R. GUARD 2 I can't get into General Ross's system. Something's blocking us from accessing the files. RYKER One of Fury's new protection programs, no doubt. (CONTINUED) 15. CONTINUED: C.R. GUARD 3 looks at her laptop screen. C.R. Guard 3 pushes the talk button of her headset. C.R. GUARD 3 Control Room? (a beat) Yes, he's down here. (long pause) I'll tell him. C.R. Guard 3 pushes her headset button and then she turns around to Ryker. C.R. GUARD 3 Sir! Ryker walks away, walks across the room and to C.R. Guard 3's desk. C.R. GUARD 3 I just got a call from the guards upstairs. Your new soldier has just arrived at your office. RYKER Good. Keep searching. I want our targets found. Ryker turns around, walks off to the staircase, walks up the stairs and to the exit door. INT. ARMY BASE - RYKER'S OFFICE - MORNING Ryker sits at his desk. Seated before his desk is an early-30s English man with brown hair -- MAJOR ANTHONY MASTERSON. Anthony is wearing a black leather uniform. Ryker holds a folder in his hands and looks at the papers held inside it. RYKER You've got a lot of promise and potential here, Major. Taking down ten armed Soldiers with your bare hands... Saving five families from a burning building...Leading an entire squad of troops and helping them successfully stop a bombing at a peace conference... (smiles) You're my kind of fighter, Masterson. ANTHONY Thank you, sir. (CONTINUED) 16. CONTINUED: Ryker's smile fades just as quickly and he looks serious. He turns to the next page. RYKER But you've also got another record. You've been known to ignore the safety of your fellow troops in order to complete a mission, you've been held back from the last four missions due to your temper, and you do better giving orders than following them. All of this ends here and now. Anthony looks annoyed. Ryker leans back in his chair. RYKER I'm the only reason you haven't been kicked out of the military, son. You may have a temper on you, but you've also got guts, you're fast and you're a quick thinker. I don't want all of your talents to go to waste. ANTHONY Since I'm so impressive to you, what do you want me to do for your division? RYKER I'm putting together a special team for the break-out of another soldier I've been made aware of. I believe you know the name. Ryker turns to the next page and hands the folder over to Anthony. Anthony looks at the name on the page. He looks up at Ryker, stunned. INT. MAIN LAB - BRUCE'S OFFICE - DAY Bruce sits at his desk, typing on his computer. Bruce pushes the ENTER button and a new file appears on the screen. The file shows the blueprints of a large machine, with a laser mounted at the side of it. TITLE CARD DAYS WITHOUT INCIDENT: The countdown clock appears and counts down to 38. A beat. The title card and countdown clock fade away. There is a KNOCK on the door. Bruce turns around as the door opens and Betty enters the room. (CONTINUED) 17. CONTINUED: BRUCE What is it? BETTY Dr. Topolov wanted to see us in the back room in five minutes. He said it's urgent. BRUCE All right. I'll be right there. INT. MAIN BUILDING - TOPOLOV'S OFFICE - DAY The shutters of the office's windows are closed and the door is locked. Topolov is sitting at his desk and he injects a syringe, filled with gray serum, into his arm. He cringes and bites his lip as he injects the serum. When the syringe is empty, he removes it and rolls down his coat's sleeve. Topolov opens a desk drawer and puts the syringe in it. Topolov closes the drawer and hears a double KNOCK on the door. TOPOLOV Just a moment. Topolov stands up, walks to the door, and unlocks it. He opens the door and Zack looks into the room. ZACK Everyone's gathered in the back, sir. TOPOLOV Good. It's time for the unveiling. INT. MAIN LAB - BACK ROOM - DAY Bruce, Betty and Daniel stand with the other Assistants in the large room. An enormous machine is set at the center of the room, covered over by several large sheets. Topolov, Josh and Zack stand by the machine. JOSH Ladies and gentlemen, this is what all of your hard work has been focused on. And it's likely going to be the newest modern miracle in the field of medical treatment and science. Doctor? Topolov and Zack grab onto the sheets with both hand. TOPOLOV Presenting...the Gamma Transponder. (CONTINUED) 18. CONTINUED: Topolov and Zack pull off the sheets from the machine, revealing the GAMMA TRANSPONDER. It is an enormous white, metallic machine, with a laser with a round- tipped end aiming at the reclining chair bolted to the device. Bruce looks on with a sad smile. Betty holds his hand. The other Assistants applaud. Topolov looks at Bruce and notices his reaction. INT. MAIN BUILDING - TOPOLOV'S OFFICE - NIGHT Topolov sits at his desk and holds his cell phone to his ear. He shakes his head. TOPOLOV No, I'm sorry, Dr. Cartwright. This Transponder is going to be used for radiation treatments and medical use only. We already have a company that is going to help us make more machines for mass production for hospitals. (a beat) It's not a question of money, sir. I'm sorry, but my answer is still the same. Good bye. Topolov hangs up the phone. He sets it down on the table and SIGHS. He turns on his computer screen and clicks on a file with his mouse. The cell phone RINGS. Topolov looks down at his phone and picks it up. It RINGS again. Topolov pushes the talk button and holds his phone to his ear. TOPOLOV Hello? (a beat) I thought I'd hear back from you. Have you had any luck? INT. ARMY BASE - RYKER'S OFFICE - NIGHT Ryker sits at his desk and looks at his laptop screen. RYKER Not yet. But we're getting close. I'll have the target's location soon enough. I understand you have the Transponder ready for use. (a beat) Excellent. I have something I need you to check for me. I am looking for a target and I think he might be headed your way, if he isn't there already. (CONTINUED) 19. INT. MAIN BUILDING - TOPOLOV'S OFFICE - NIGHT Topolov clicks on his email. An email from Ryker is sent and appears in his mailbox. TOPOLOV Yes, I've got it now. Topolov clicks on the email and it opens up. An image downloads and appears in the email -- it is a photo of Bruce. Topolov looks at the screen, stunned. TOPOLOV I know this man. He's one of my new assistants. INT. ARMY BASE - RYKER'S OFFICE - NIGHT Ryker sits forward in his chair, holding his cell phone to his ear. RYKER Listen to me. Whatever you do, do not try to confront Dr. Banner yourself. I'm leading a team to Los Angeles now. This is what I'd like you to do when we arrive. INT. MAIN BUILDING - MAIN LAB - DAY Bruce and Betty are seated at a lab table. Betty is looking in a microscope, while Bruce is working on a portable control box. Bruce puts on his glasses and continues to work on the circuits in the box. TITLE CARD DAYS WITHOUT INCIDENT: The countdown clock appears, and the clock counts down and stops at 39. The title card and clock both fade away. Bruce closes the lid over the control box and sets it down. He flips a switch on the side of it and a light shines, indicating the box has been turned on. Bruce smiles, and he looks up at Betty. BRUCE How's the latest blood test going? BETTY Look for yourself. (CONTINUED) 20. CONTINUED: Bruce moves over, stands beside Betty and she steps back. Bruce looks into the microscope. BRUCE'S POV - The blood samples magnified under the microscope are red, healthy -- normal. Bruce looks up and at Betty. BRUCE How high was the exposure to this sample? BETTY Two-hundred thousand. If the Gamma Transponder works as well as Dr. Topolov insists for higher levels... BRUCE (softly) Then it could be a possible cure. Nearby, Daniel is seated at his own lab table, with Ben seated next to him. Ben looks at the irradiated cells under his own microscope. BEN These new cells Dr. Topolov has been letting us work on have been really creepy. I've never seen such high levels of gamma exposure to blood cells before. Daniel looks over at Bruce and Betty and sneers. DANIEL I'll take the work over the company any day. Those two have only been here a few weeks and already they've been getting pretty high-profile gigs for Topolov's study. BEN Ah, ignore the newbies, Danny. You're getting paranoid at such a young age. The doors slide open and Topolov walks into the room. He walks by Ben and Daniel's table. DANIEL We've got those new blood samples you wanted to start testing with, Dr. Topolov. (CONTINUED) 21. CONTINUED: (2) TOPOLOV Not now, Daniel. Topolov walks by and stands by Bruce and Betty's desk. TOPOLOV Dr. Feige, Dr. Bixby...I have a new assignment I need you to do for me for the Transponder. BETTY What is it? TOPOLOV Some of the new equipment has been sent over to one of the Lambert Institute warehouses by mistake. I need you to go over and retrieve them for me. BRUCE Why us, sir? TOPOLOV I have a business meeting to attend to this afternoon and I simply cannot make it downtown to the warehouse. It'd be a real favor to me to have two of my best assistants pick it up for me. DANIEL We can pick it up if you want, Doctor. Topolov quickly turns to Daniel and glares. TOPOLOV You have your own assignment to complete, DeVries. Let them finish theirs. Topolov turns back to Bruce and Betty. TOPOLOV Go to Warehouse Twelve, the second room to the right. Don't disappoint me. Topolov turns and walks out of the room. Bruce and Betty exchange puzzled looks. They get up from their seats, and the doors slide open as they walk towards them. They walk out of the room and the doors close behind them. Daniel looks at Ben and scoffs. DANIEL Paranoid, huh? (CONTINUED) 22. EXT. WAREHOUSE - PARKING LOT - DAY Betty drives her car down towards Warehouse 12, with Bruce next to her in the passenger seat. They slow down and park their car in a vacant spot. Bruce and Betty unbuckle their seatbelts, open their doors and get out of the car. They shut their doors and walk over to the warehouse's entrance door. INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN ROOM - DAY Bruce slides the door open and they walk into the warehouse. It is mostly bare, with only a few crates at either side of the main room. A spiraled staircase leads up to the next floor, while two doors to the next rooms are at the walls on either side of the main room. Bruce and Betty walk inside and look around. BETTY Dr. Topolov sounded pretty weird back at the lab. BRUCE I know. Let's just pick up the new equipment and get out of here. INT. RYKER'S VAN - BACK - DAY - CONTINUOUS The main room is on a monitor screen. Ryker looks at the screen, which shows Bruce and Betty inside. RYKER Get ready. They're headed your way. INT. WAREHOUSE - MAIN ROOM - CONTINUOUS Bruce and Betty turn and walk over to the second door on the right. Bruce reaches for the door knob, but stops. A beat. Bruce looks at the main door. A faint creaking sound catches his attention. BETTY What is it? Bruce looks at the window by the main door. A shadow is on the wall. BRUCE We need to go now. Now!! Bruce and Betty run across the hall, open the first door to the left and run in. (CONTINUED) 23. INT. RYKER'S VAN - BACK - DAY Ryker watches as Bruce and Betty run into the large storage room. RYKER Targets are on the move! They're in the storage room! I repeat -- head for the storage room! INT. WAREHOUSE - STORAGE ROOM - CONTINUOUS Bruce and Betty run into the storage room, moving left and right past crate after crate stored there. Bruce and Betty run across the room, down the staircase and to the lower level of the storage room. They run by the large stack of crates nearby and see a shut exit door ahead. The door SWINGS OPEN and several of RYKER'S TROOPERS enter the room, wearing black stealth uniforms and headsets. The Soldiers are holding tranquilizer guns. They open fire at Bruce and Betty, and the two quickly move behind the crates. TROOPER 1 Targets are by the crates. We're moving in. INT. WAREHOUSE - HALL - DAY - CONTINUOUS Anthony goes down the hall, leading a dozen more of the TROOPERS down a staircase. Anthony and the Troopers are all wearing headsets. ANTHONY Hold your position. We're closing in on them. INT. WAREHOUSE - STORAGE ROOM - CONTINUOUS Bruce and Betty duck low and move behind the crates. Bruce holds Betty's hand as they creep behind the crates together. BRUCE (whispers) It's okay...Just stay down low. A dart suddenly fires out and hits a crate above them, missing Betty's arm by inches. She gives a startled CRY as another hits a crate just inches above her head. (CONTINUED) 24. CONTINUED: More darts are fired out and zoom over the two. Bruce and Betty stay low and move past the crates. They turn to the left and move behind several, larger stacks of crates. The crates act like the walls of a maze and Bruce and Betty move past. Bruce and Betty quickly move left, run on past the tall stacks of crates, and then they turn right. They move on past the next stack of crates, and a dart ZIPS by in front of Bruce, startling him. Betty and Bruce duck as two more darts are fired out and hit the crates. BRUCE Stay down! Bruce and Betty crawl on the ground and dodge more fired tranquilizer darts. They crawl by faster, and stop as rapid footsteps get closer. Bruce turns around and notices Troopers running at them from behind. BRUCE Get up! Run!! Bruce and Betty get up, run and move past the crates. The Troopers run quicker, getting closer quickly. Bruce and Betty get near the end of the crates, and Bruce notices a loose stack nearby. Bruce goes over, pushes the stack of crates, and sends them crashing down to the ground behind him and Betty. They run on out of the maze of crates and the Troopers behind them slow down. One fires a dart and at Bruce. It barely misses him. Bruce slows down and he hides with Betty behind a large storage crate. His monitor watch beats quickly. INSERT - ON THE WATCH. His heartbeat is at 156 and climbing. BRUCE No... BETTY Bruce, it's okay. Stay down. We're almost there. Bruce calms down a bit and they stand up. They move to the exit door, but it is kicked open and Anthony leads the Troopers into the room. ANTHONY Hold it! (CONTINUED) 25. CONTINUED: (2) BRUCE Go, Betty! Now!! Betty grabs Bruce's hand and they run off. They move on towards a smaller stack of crates, located behind a counter with a cash register. Bruce and Betty duck low and crawl behind the counter. Anthony waves at the men across the room. ANTHONY Move to the other side! Box them in! The Troopers run for the counter, but Bruce and Betty have already gotten to the end. Bruce gets up to run, and Anthony fires his gun. A tranquilizer dart hits Bruce in the neck and he GRUNTS as he goes down. BETTY Bruce!! Betty crouches next to Bruce and helps him pull out the dart. The Troopers move in towards them, but Betty grabs Bruce and they duck behind the counter. They duck down and hide in a small corner. ANTHONY Grab them!! Betty sits Bruce against the wall as his heartbeat gets quicker. BETTY Bruce!! Hold on!! Bruce!! Trooper 2 grabs Betty's arm from behind and she gives a startled CRY as she's dragged back. Betty turns around and delivers a knee to the Trooper's groin. Trooper 2 grunts as he falls down, and Troopers 3 and 4 grab her from behind. Betty struggles to get loose and Trooper 3 quickly holds a pistol to Betty's temple. TROOPER 3 Freeze!! Bruce looks at Betty and his eyes widen. His pupils glow green. Bruce breaks out into a cold sweat, breathing hard, and he tries to get up. He collapses and lands behind the counter. ANTHONY We've got him, sir. Standby for pick- up. (CONTINUED) 26. CONTINUED: (3) RYKER (O. S.) (on headset) Stay back, Soldier. Don't approach the target! ANOTHER ANGLE - Behind the counter, Bruce is in the middle of his metamorphosis. His bones POP as his body swells and grows bigger, taller. His shirt rips open and is torn off as the muscles of his body bulge and grow bigger. The tinge of his skin changes to green and BRUCE'S VOICE CHANGES AS HE GRUNTS WITH PAIN. ANTHONY You want to repeat that, sir? We've got him where we want him. RYKER (O. S.) (on headset) No you don't, Masterson. ANOTHER ANGLE - Betty looks on behind the counter in concern as the Soldiers keep hold of her. RYKER (O. S.) (CONT'D) (on headset) You've only made him angry. A LOW, ANGRY GROWL catches Anthony's attention and he looks at the counter. Anthony looks in realization and Soldiers 4 and 5 walk to the counter. ANTHONY No!! Move away!! AN ANRGY ROAR rolls out and two huge green feet kick at the counter from behind. The counter BREAKS OFF of the ground, and the SOLDIERS SCREAM as it FLIES at them and their SCREAMS STOP as the counter hits them. The Soldiers fall off the counter and hit the ground, unconscious, as the counter continues to FLY off and it CRASHES into an enormous crate. Betty and the Soldiers look at the counter. On all fours is the HULK, wearing only torn purple pants and his hair is black. Hulk lifts his head up, looks at the Soldiers holding Betty, and GROWLS with anger. Hulk stands up angrily and Anthony taps the button on the side of his headset. ANTHONY Gamma Unit Two, Banner's gone green! Move in and give me back-up! (CONTINUED) 27. CONTINUED: (4) The Soldiers present in the room drop their large tranquilizer guns and pick up guns from their holsters. The doors of the room swing open and twenty armed GAMMA UNIT (G.U.) GUARDS enter the room, wearing masks over their heads and faces, and black leather uniforms. The G.U. Guards hold sleek, futuristic laser guns in their hands, and they aim them at the Hulk. ANTHONY G.U. Guards, fire gamma lasers! Hulk steps forward and the G.U. Guards open fire. The green laser blasts they fire hit at the Hulk and he staggers back, unhurt. Hulk GROWLS at them as they continue to open fire. G.U. GUARD 2 The lasers aren't having any effect! Hulk GROWLS, turns and he grabs a nearby crate. Hulk lifts it up and throws it at the G.U. Guards. G.U. GUARD 1 MOVE!! The Guards move away, but the crate does knock over Guards 3 and 4. The Soldiers open fire with their guns and their bullets break as they hit Hulk's thick skin. Hulk GROWLS with anger and grabs another nearby crate. He lifts it up, throws it at Soldier 6 and he SCREAMS as it flies at him. The crate KNOCKS over Soldier 6 as it hits him, and Hulk picks up another crate and tosses it at Soldiers 7 and 8. They SCREAM and leap away, but Soldier 9 behind them gives a look of shock before it HITS him in the chest and KNOCKS him down. The G.U. Guards move in closer and Anthony picks up his own gamma laser gun. He turns a dial on the side of his gun. ANTHONY I'm increasing the power. Maybe I can stun him. Anthony fires a laser that hits Hulk's chest and he GRUNTS as he staggers back. Hulk regains his balance and Anthony fires another blast. Hulk GROWLS and he charges at Anthony. Anthony fires another blast that hits Hulk in the right eye and he GRUNTS as he falls down. Anthony smiles as Hulk gets to one knee, wipes his eye and reveals the blood dripping down from his wounded eye. (CONTINUED) 28. CONTINUED: (5) ANTHONY Hit him! The G.U. Guards open fire and the ammo hits the Hulk. He GRUNTS as he stumbles back, but regains his balance. Betty struggles to get loose from the Soldiers holding her. BETTY Leave him alone! SOLDIER 3 Shut up!! Soldier 3 hits Betty over the head with his gun and she nearly passes out. Hulk looks at Betty and notices what's occurred. Hulk grits his teeth and wipes away the blood from his wounded eye to reveal his eye has healed. Hulk's pupils glow green as he gets angrier. HULK Betty... ANTHONY No!! Don't hurt Dr. Ross!! Too late. Hulk ROARS and he turns to the Guards. The Hulk punches his left fist into the ground and it SHAKES a moment. The ground CRACKS and splits in a line down to the G.U. Guards and they SCREAM as jagged chunks of the ground beneath their feet make them fall over. Hulk turns to the two Soldiers holding Betty and GROWLS angrily. Soldiers 3 and 4 release Betty's arms and step back from her...as quickly as possible. They aim their guns at Hulk and open fire. Hulk charges at them and ROARS as he shoves his hands out. The Hulk's hands push Soldiers 3 and 4 back and they SCREAM as they're sent flying backwards across the room. They sail back a good thirty feet and they CRASH into the large crates stacked by a wall behind them. Anthony turns the power dial of his gun up higher. ANTHONY I'm turning the laser's power up higher. Hulk turns to Anthony and GROWLS. RYKER (O. S.) (on headset) Not too high or the gun will burn your hand, Masterson. (CONTINUED) 29. CONTINUED: (6) Anthony opens fire at the Hulk and fires three laser beams that hit his chest, left shoulder and abdomen in rapid succession. Hulk GRUNTS and stumbles back by the triple hit. BETTY Bruce!! Betty runs to Hulk, but Soldier 1 gets to his feet and chases after her. He grabs Betty and holds her by her arms. BETTY Let go of me!! Hulk turns around and notices Betty is being held by Soldier 1. Anthony smirks and opens fire, cutting the Hulk in the neck and drawing green blood. HULK GRUNTS and turns to Anthony. He is fires another laser and Hulk dodges it. Anthony GRUNTS and quickly drops the laser gun. His hand is bright red and blistered from the heat. Anthony looks up and notices the Hulk has grabbed a nearby crate. ANTHONY Oh, bloody h*ll... HULK ROARS and throws the crate at Anthony. He leaps aside and lands behind a nearby crate, as the thrown crate SMASHES as it hits the wall. Several G.U. Guards get back to their feet, hold up their guns and open fire at the Hulk. Hulk is pushed back a few steps by the hits and GROWLS. Hulk moves forward, ROARS and CLAPS his hands together to make a THUNDERCLAP. The force of the thunderclap KNOCKS the G.U. Guards over and they cover their ears. Betty is able to cover her ears, but SOLDIER 1 GRUNTS as he's unable to. Despite this, he regains his balance and forces Betty back to a nearby exit door. SOLDIER 1 Let's go! Hulk notices this and charges after them. Soldier 1 opens the door and kicks it open. He aims his gun to Betty's temple. SOLDIER 1 Step outside now! NOW!! Betty steps outside and Soldier 1 keeps hold of her. (CONTINUED) 30. EXT. WAREHOUSE - BACK ENTRANCE - DAY Betty steps outside and Soldier 1 keeps hold of her. She flinches as he pushes the gun harder to her temple. SOLDIER 1 General, we've got Dr. Ross on -- He's cut off and SCREAMS with pain as Hulk's green left hand grabs his wrist from behind. Hulk SQUEEZES and BREAKS Solider 1's wrist, forcing him to drop the gun. Hulk's right hand reaches out, grabs Soldier 1 by the head and gives a MUFFLED SCREAM as his head is covered by Hulk's massive palm. Hulk PULLS Soldier 1 into the warehouse and out of sight. Betty turns around and -- INT. WAREHOUSE - STORAGE ROOM - DAY - CONTINUOUS Hulk ROARS as he THROWS SOLDIER 1 across the room. The SOLDIER SCREAMS as he's sent flying a good forty feet and collides onto three of the nearby Soldiers. They all fall to the ground and land in a crumpled heap. EXT. WAREHOUSE - BACK ENTRANCE - CONTINUOUS Betty takes a few steps back and ducks as the Hulk grabs the doorway. He PULLS the wall off and sends the debris falling to the ground inside. Hulk ducks and steps out of the broken-off wall. He walks over to Betty and stands before her. Betty looks up at Hulk and he gently grabs her. HULK Betty... Hulk lifts Betty up, holds her in his arms and holds her close to his chest. Betty wraps her arm around him as Hulk moves forward, charges and runs off down past the other warehouses. INT. RYKER'S VAN - DAY Ryker looks on at a monitor, which shows Hulk running outside with Betty in his arms. RYKER No!! They're getting away!! Hulk leaps into the air and out of sight. RYKER (CONT'D) No!! NO!! (CONTINUED) 31. INT. LABORATORY - MAIN HALL - DAY Topolov walks down the hallway and over towards the elevators. His cell phone rings. Topolov picks up his cell phone, pushes the talk button and holds his phone up to his ear. TOPOLOV Hello, General. I take it the mission was a success? A beat. Topolov stops walking and looks puzzled. TOPOLOV What? (a beat) I don't understand. How did one man get away from your men? INT. RYKER'S VAN - DAY Ryker sits back in his chair and is holding his own cell phone to his ear. RYKER This isn't your typical target, Doctor. This spy we're after is dangerous and probably headed back to your laboratory right now. TOPOLOV (O. S.) (on the phone) Then go down there and pick him up! I don't want any spies trying to steal my work! RYKER We can't do that, Doctor. If he sees us coming, it'll complicate things considerably. TOPOLOV (O. S.) (on the phone) Is this Dr. Banner really that dangerous, General? RYKER Let's just say he's unpredictable. He's got a tendency to have violent outbursts whenever confronted. You could say he's got some major anger issues. Get back to the lab. If you see him, call me. (CONTINUED) 32. INT. GAMMA BASE - ROSS' OFFICE - NOON Ross sits at his desk and looks over a file on his computer. He looks at the report and shakes his head. ROSS D*mn it... There is a knock on the door. Ross looks up. ROSS Come in. The door opens and MAJOR KAT SPARR enters the room, wearing a military uniform and holding a file in her hands. She walks over and stands before Ross's desk. KAT Sir! We've got a new report in from Los Angeles. Eyewitness reports are coming in from the police of a big green monster leaping away from an old warehouse district. ROSS Get all of our available units rounded up and make sure we get the earliest flight for Los Angeles. KAT Yes, sir. INT. PARKING LOT - NOON Topolov drives on towards the parking lot and down past a row of parked cars. He drives on down further into the parking lot and notices his reserved spot in the distance. Topolov hits the brakes as the Hulk walks out in front of his car, with Betty in his arms. Hulk turns to the car, and GROWLS at him. Topolov shrinks back in his chair with fear. TOPOLOV (whispers) Oh, my God... Betty looks at the car, but since Topolov has ducked, she doesn't see him. Hulk walks on across the parking lot and down to the next row of cars. Hulk walks off and walks past the cars. He turns and moves past more cars, and he walks out of sight behind them. Topolov sits up and stares in shock. (CONTINUED) 33. INT. PARKING LOT - NOON Hulk carries Betty as he walks ahead past parked car after car. They're alone in the parking lot. Hulk walks on over to an empty parking spot, by an elevator, and crouches down. He sets Betty down and sits her by the parking spot. Hulk sits down on the ground, with his hands in his lap. Betty looks at Hulk in concern. The Hulk looks tired, worn out. He looks at Betty and she gives him a soft smile. BETTY Hey...It's okay. She reaches out and gently holds his hand. BETTY It's okay. Hulk looks at Betty with a soft smile. He looks tired. HULK Be-tty... Hulk reaches his hand out and sets it on the side of her face. Betty smiles at him. Hulk takes his hand off of her face and closes his eyes. His height starts to shrink down slowly, his muscles decrease in size, the tinge of his skin gets lighter... ANOTHER ANGLE - Topolov looks around the corner from behind a car, at the other side of the parking lot. He looks ahead at HULK AND BETTY (O. S.). He stares in shock at what is ahead of him. ANOTHER ANGLE - Hulk lowers his head as his hair turns brown, his height shrinks down even more, and his skin turns Caucasian. Hulk falls over, lands on all fours, and reverts back to BRUCE. BRUCE MOANS at the pain and wraps an arm around his left side. Betty moves closer and removes her coat. She wraps her coat around Bruce and he GAGS from the aftermath of his change. BETTY (softly) It's okay...It's okay, Bruce. Bruce opens his eyes, which are normal again, and he lifts his head up. He looks at Betty groggily. BETTY (CONT'D) I'm here. (CONTINUED) 34. CONTINUED: Bruce stares at Betty a moment, worn out. A beat. He SIGHS and lowers his head. The sound of distant footsteps catches his attention. The footsteps stop and Bruce turns his head. Betty turns her head to see what Bruce is looking at. Topolov stands in the parking lot and is about a few dozen feet away from them. EXT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - AFTERNOON Topolov drives his car up the driveway and parks it in front of his garage. Bruce and Betty are in the back seats. The three unbuckle their seatbelts, open their doors and get out of the car. They close their car doors and Bruce and Betty eye the enormous, wide, three-story home in shock. BETTY This is your home? TOPOLOV One of them, da. I have a second home in Moscow and an apartment located in Manhattan. Follow me. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - MAIN HALL - AFTERNOON Bruce walks down the staircase to the main hall, wearing a T-shirt, baggy purple pants and sneakers. He turns to the right and to an open doorway. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS Bruce walks through the doorway and into the enormous living room, with two couches and three chairs present on the carpet-covered floor. A flat, widescreen TV is set on the wall, while the open doorway on the right side hall leads to the library and the open doorway to the kitchen is at the left side wall. Topolov is seated a chair, and Betty seated nearby on a couch. Bruce walks over and sits on the couch beside Betty. BRUCE Thank you, Doctor. For the clothes... for everything. TOPOLOV I still have a lot of questions to ask you. Who are you? How did you get this way? What was that green thing you changed back from? (CONTINUED) 35. CONTINUED: Bruce SIGHS. He looks at Topolov. BRUCE It all started about six years ago, in Virginia at the Culver University. INT. SAMSON'S OFFICE - AFTERNOON DR. LEONARD SAMSON sits at his desk, with his green hair cut short and his physique is as fit as a bodybuilder. Leonard is writing notes on his notepad. There's a knock on the door. SAMSON Come in. The door opens and Ross enters the room. Samson looks up and notices Ross. Samson shakes his head. SAMSON Are you here to make an appointment? ROSS Let's cut the small talk, Doctor. We need your cooperation. SAMSON Is that a fact? What have I done wrong now? I've cut my hair, I'm checked once a week by your Gamma Base to see I'm in line. What more do you want me to do? ROSS It's not us we need you to help, Samson. It's Banner. Samson stands up, puzzled, and walks over to Ross. SAMSON Excuse me? I didn't quite get that. If I remember correctly, Banner's been your number one target since day one -- and you're coming to me for help? ROSS Banner's life is danger, Doctor. My daughter's life is in danger. A new military unit is illegally trying to acquire Banner. We're about to go to Los Angeles to warn them and get them out of there, but they might think I'll be going there to attack them. (CONTINUED) 36. CONTINUED: SAMSON Now what possible reason could they have to assume that? ROSS I've been ordered not to attack Banner under any circumstances. I give you my word, under orders from the President of the United States himself, I will not attack Banner or try to bring him in. But I can't warn them if they try to run away from us. SAMSON And my arrival is the only way you can keep Banner calm enough and not "Hulk out", right? A beat. Samson SIGHS and nods. SAMSON Fine. But I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing this is for Bruce and Betty. But if I find out you're lying to me and you go after Banner again... ROSS (interrupts) That's not going to happen. But we do need you to do one more thing. SAMSON What more do you want me to do? ROSS You've been under orders to keep your hair cut short. Now we're ordering you to let it grow. Samson looks at Ross, puzzled. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - LIVING ROOM - AFTERNOON Topolov sits in his chair and looks on at Bruce and Betty, stunned. Bruce SIGHS and lowers his head. BRUCE Well...that's about it. CONTINUED: TOPOLOV And my work with the Transponder... you think it might be your only chance to cure yourself of this..."Hulk" of yours. BETTY We were going over the data of the irradiated cells you were testing on. Every sample so far over the last week have been cured successfully with no side effects. TOPOLOV Why, yes, but the levels of radiation that you're talking about... I don't know if the Transponder will be able to fully cure such a large amount. BETTY We've got to try. That's why we were working on the research. BRUCE But now we've probably lost that chance. We can't go back to Betty's rental home, or the lab. They'll be looking for us. A beat. Topolov smiles and stands up. TOPOLOV Maybe not. But I might be able to help you finish your work from here. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - LABORATORY - AFTERNOON The door is unlocked and opens from the outside. Topolov enters the room and Bruce and Betty follow him into the enormous lab, nearly identical to that of the Main Lab. Bruce and Betty look around the room in awe. TOPOLOV I take it you like my private laboratory. Bruce walks over and looks at the test tubes, beakers, and other items on the lab tables. There are two laptops on each table. BRUCE This place is amazing. TOPOLOV After what I spent on it, it should be. (CONTINUED) 38. CONTINUED: Topolov walks down the room and over to a laptop at the first table. He switches the screen on and sits on a chair. Topolov clicks on a file with his mouse and a new file pops up on the screen. TOPOLOV Here. I think you'll find this data to your liking. Bruce and Betty walk over and look at the file on the laptop screen. Topolov points at a rack of test tubes nearby on the table, with blood samples set in some of the tubes. Two of the test tubes are empty. TOPOLOV You can use these samples to study and complete your work. I'll tell Dr. Lambert I'll be having you work here with me so you can finish your work without drawing any unwanted attention. BRUCE Thank you, Doctor...For everything. TOPOLOV It's nothing, really. I'll be back in a few moments. Topolov turns and walks out of the room. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - OFFICE - AFTERNOON Topolov sits at his desk and holds his cell phone to his ear. TOPOLOV Yes, everything's been taken care of. What should I do now? RYKER (O. S.) (on the phone) Keep them there as long as you can. When we get back, I'll take care of Dr. Banner personally. TOPOLOV This man, Banner...He's looking for a cure for his condition. RYKER (O. S.) (on the phone) Don't let him get his hands on a cure. (CONTINUED) 39. CONTINUED: TOPOLOV Why not? RYKER (O. S.) (on the phone) We need to take Banner in as is. If he cures other half, we'll lose the proof and results we need. TOPOLOV What results? Why can't I cure him? INT. ARMY BASE - LAB CONTROL ROOM - AFTERNOON Ryker stands in the room, wearing a headset, and he stands behind a glass shield. He looks through the shield into the next room, with a few DOCTORS at the control panels beside him. RYKER Don't get all sympathetic for Banner on me, Doctor. He's a wanted fugitive and murderer. I know you can relate to looking for a cure to a medical problem, but he can't get his cure yet. Just keep them there and await for my orders. TOPOLOV (O. S.) (on the phone) Understood, General. Goodbye. Ryker pushes the far left button on his headset. He then pushes the middle button of his headset. RYKER Masterson, tell me you're ready. INT. ARMY BASE - LAB - CONTINUOUS Anthony sits on a chair, shirtless, and his wrists and ankles are strapped to the chair. His right hand is covered over by bandages. Electrodes placed on his chest and temples are hooked up to monitors behind him. Two LAB DOCTORS stand at either side of Anthony. ANTHONY Ready and waiting, sir. Let's get on with the injections. The Lab Doctors lift up two syringes, each filled with separate serums -- one serum is dark green, while the serum in the other syringe is chalk white. (CONTINUED) 40. CONTINUED: LAB DOCTOR 2 Injections to be made to the left wrist and neck. These injections will sting. Lab Doctor 1 sticks the needle of the syringe to the wrist, while Doctor 2 puts the syringe to his neck. LAB DOCTOR 1 On my mark. Three...two...one... They inject the syringes into Anthony and he flinches. He grits his teeth and GRUNTS as the serums are fully injected into him. With the syringes empty, the Lab Doctors remove them from Anthony's wrist and neck. He looks ahead at the glass shield. ANTHONY How long do I have to wait for these things to kick in? INT. ARMY BASE - LAB CONTROL ROOM - AFTERNOON Ryker looks at Anthony through the glass shield. RYKER You should feel the effects of the serum within the hour, after the two components interact with your nervous system and blood stream. Doctors, get those straps off of our soldier and let's get him suited up. We've got a mission to carry out. Anthony smiles and nods, as the doctors begin to unbuckle the straps from his wrists. EXT. MILITARY COMPOUND - NIGHT Several Guards stand watch around the area, armed with guns. A young GUARD at the gate stands beside a parked van. He looks at the ID badge in his hands and then he hands it over to the driver in the van. GATE GUARD All right. Go on in, General. In the jeep, Ryker sits at the wheel and Anthony sits in the passenger seat. Ryker takes back his badge with his hand and nods at the Gate Guard. RYKER Thank you. MILITARY COMPOUND - MAIN HALL - NIGHT Ryker, Anthony and six armed Troopers walk into the main hall. The late-40s, bald GENERAL STEVEN BISON walks over and joins them. Two GUARDS are seated at a nearby desk and watch the monitors. BISON Hello, General. I understand you're here to pick up a recruit here. RYKER Yes. We're here to pick up a soldier down on level four. BISON Level four? That level is restricted -- Anthony draws his gun and aims it at Bison's forehead. ANTHONY The General gave you an order. The two Guards nearby rise from their seats, but two of the Troopers shoot them dead before they can grab their guns. As the Guards' bodies hit the ground, Bison looks over at Ryker. BISON Sound alarm. The alarm goes off. Anthony notices the receiver in Bison's ear and shakes his head. ANTHONY Big mistake, mate. ANOTHER ANGLE - Ryker walks down the room and towards the elevators. BLAM! BISON (O. S.) falls and hits the ground, dead. Ryker stops at the elevator and notices the code key slot by the up and down buttons. RYKER We need a code key. Trooper 2 crouches down next to Bison's dead body, as blood drips from his off-screen head. He picks up the key from Bison's belt, stands up and walks to Ryker. (CONTINUED) 42. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - LEVEL FOUR HALL - NIGHT The elevator doors slide open and Ryker, Anthony, and the Troopers step out into the new, enormous hall. Rapid footsteps approach from the distance. RYKER We'll pick up our soldier. Masterson, stop anyone who tries to come after us. ANTHONY Yes, sir. Anthony runs off to the left side of the hall. Ryker turns around and leads his men down to the right side of the hall. RYKER Let's go. TROOPER 4 Shouldn't we help him, sir? He'll need back-up. RYKER Trust me, Trooper, he won't. INT. LEVEL FOUR - WESTERN HALL - NIGHT Anthony runs faster a good fifty miles than normal. He notices five ARMY GUARDS, wearing headsets, are down the end of the hall and they approach his direction. They draw their guns as he charges at them. GUARD 1 Hold it!! GUARD 2 Get down on the ground or we'll fire!! Anthony continues to run at them. They open fire and Anthony easily dodges the gunfire as he continues to run. The Guards continue to fire, but Anthony gets closer to them. He leaps up, flips over the bullets, and kicks his leg at Guard 1's face. Guard 1's head whips back and SNAPS, BREAKING his nose AND his neck. Anthony lands on his feet, turns to Guard 2 and grabs his gun from his left hand. He fires two shoots into Guard 2's chest and he hits the floor. GUARD 3 Shoot him!! (CONTINUED) 43. CONTINUED: Anthony turns and ducks and dodges the gunfire. He opens fire and hits Guard 4 twice in the gut. He then aims the gun at Guard 3 and shoots him once in the heart. Both men lie dead on the floor. GUARD 5 I need back up at level four, in the western hall -- BLAM! Anthony turns and shoots Guard 5 in the chest and he hits the ground, dying. Anthony throws the empty gun aside and crouches next to Guard 5. He grabs Guard 5's neck, tightens his grip and SNAPS his neck. Guard 5 lies dead and Anthony looks at his right hand. He looks puzzled. Anthony removes the bandages and looks at his hand. The burns are gone and his hand has healed. Anthony bends his fingers and moves his hand. He smiles, pleasantly surprised. Anthony looks up as he sees ten more Guards run at him from the other end of the hall. GUARD 6 There he is!! Freeze!! ANTHONY Time for round two. He smiles as he stands up and runs at them. INT. LEVEL FOUR - EASTERN HALL - NIGHT A dozen Guards lie dead on the floor, each with various gunshots in them. Ryker scans the code key into the slot and it beeps with approval. COMPUTER VOICE Welcome, General Bison. The door slides open and Ryker walks through the doorway. INT. LEVEL FIVE - HALL - CONTINUOUS Ryker walks down a spiraled staircase into the next level. The Troopers follow him down the stairs. They walk down from the stairs and walk down the hall. TROOPER 1 Which way is the target, sir? RYKER First door to the right, Trooper. (CONTINUED) 44. CONTINUED: Ryker and his Troopers stop at a tall, wide metal door to an enormous room. Ryker puts the code key in the scanner. A beat. The scanner beeps and Ryker takes the code key out of it. COMPUTER VOICE Welcome, General Bison. Ryker grabs the door handle, pulls it and he opens the metal door. INT. LEVEL FOUR - JAIL CELL - NIGHT Seated on his bed is EMIL BLONSKY - 40, with brown hair and an athletic physique - sits in his cell. He is HUMAN now, and in bulky metal handcuffs. He looks up as Ryker enters the room. BLONSKY Who the h*ll are you? RYKER I'm General John Ryker. And I'm your ticket out of here. INT. LEVEL FOUR - WESTERN HALL - NIGHT Anthony does three back-flips in rapid succession and dodges the gunfire from Guards 8 and 9, the only two Guards left alive. Anthony stops back-flipping and lands on his feet. Guards 8 and 9 continue to fire, but their empty guns CLICK in response. Anthony smiles at them. He charges at Guard 8, leaps and launches a jump-kick to his chest. GUARD 8 GASPS for air as he's knocked back and to the floor. Anthony turns and sees Guard 9 draw a new gun. He FIRES at Anthony, but he leaps back, puts his foot on the wall behind him and PUSHES himself up into a flip over Guard 9. Guard 9 turns around as Anthony lands on his feet behind him and turns to face him. Anthony is SHOT in the left shoulder by Guard 9, but it doesn't stop him from reaching out and he GRABS Guard 9 by the throat. Guard 9 GASPS for air and Anthony glares at him angrily. ANTHONY That hurt, mate. Anthony's wounded shoulder starts to slowly heal itself and Guard 9 WIDENS his eyes in shock. SNAP!! Anthony breaks his neck and drops the dead Guard to the floor. Anthony looks down at his shoulder and notices that his wound is healing. A low GASPING is heard from below. (CONTINUED) 45. CONTINUED: Anthony looks down and notices that Guard 8 is lying hurt on the floor, GASPING for air, and he looks at Anthony in shock. Anthony crouches, picks up Guard 9's gun from the floor, and stands up. He aims the gun at Guard 8's chest. ANTHONY We'll just let this be our little secret, okay? He SHOOTS twice at Guard 8's chest. He hits the floor, dead and bleeding. Anthony looks down at his hand and notices a pale tinge to his skin. His skin starts to get chalk white and he gives a startled GASP, dropping the gun. The skin of Anthony's hand returns to normal. He stares at his hand a moment. A beat. It remains its normal Caucasian tinge. RYKER (O. S.) (on the headset) Masterson, come in. ANTHONY Masterson here, sir. All of the Guards are down. RYKER (O. S.) (on headset) Come back to the elevator. We've got Blonsky out of containment. We'll need you to help us stop any interference. ANTHONY (smiles) Gladly, sir. EXT. AIRPORT - LATE NIGHT The doors slide open and Ross, Kat and Samson walk outside. Following them out are the thin, mid-40s GENERAL BEN TURNER, the lean-muscled, mid-30s LIEUTENANT MIKE DAVID and the blonde, early-30s CAPTAIN CARLA FERRIGNO. A dozen Army Soldiers follow them out of the airport. Samson looks left and then right. There are no parked cars nearby. SAMSON Where's our ride? ROSS An old friend of mine, General Bison, is on his way. He'll pick us up. (CONTINUED) 46. CONTINUED: Three military jeeps drive down the road, turn to the airport and drive to the front of it. ROSS There. You see? The jeeps park and GUARD 12 gets out of the first jeep's driver's seat. He closes the door, walks over to Ross and looks at them grimly. GUARD 12 Welcome, General. ROSS What's going on? Where's Bison? GUARD 12 He's dead, sir. Most of the Guards are dead. KAT What? ROSS What happened? GUARD 12 Someone entered the base, sir. They killed the General, stole his code key and went down to level four. He broke out the prisoner from containment. ROSS Oh, God. SAMSON What's going on? ROSS It's Ryker, Doctor. He's just taken Emil Blonsky from custody. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - CONTROL ROOM - NIGHT The doors slide open and Samson enters the room. He walks over to the monitor screens and notices Ross is staring at the security camera footage of Anthony taking down and murdering the Guards he's fighting. SAMSON Who's that on the security footage? Is that General Ryker? (CONTINUED) 47. CONTINUED: ROSS No, it isn't. It's Anthony Masterson. He's an old friend of Blonsky's from England, and he's just as bad as his buddy. Samson notices Anthony's acrobatic feats and quick reflexes as he dodges the Guards' gunfire. SAMSON Is he part of that Super-Soldier program you mentioned? ROSS No. Ryker never knew we were working on it. But it seems he's come up with an enhancement serum of his own. SAMSON Who is this Ryker? How do you know him? ROSS I've never met him. Nobody really sees him. You see, Ryker is a master spy and one of the most dangerous men in the U.S. Army. Most people don't even know of his existence anymore. He doesn't let anyone know he's on the grid long enough to track him down and he doesn't go away from a target until he gets what he wants. SAMSON You mean Blonsky. ROSS And Banner. We need to find him and Betty before Ryker does. If he's got these kind of men to order around, we're going to need all the help we can get to stop them. Like you. SAMSON Me? I'm a psychiatrist, not a soldier. ROSS We're going to have to train you. First thing in the morning, we're teaching you as much as we can before Ryker's men show up again. You're the only one tough enough we have to stand up to these guys. (CONTINUED) 48. CONTINUED: (2) Samson looks at the screen and notices Anthony snap a Guard's neck. Samson shakes his head. SAMSON I'll do what I can. INT. ARMY BASE - RYKER'S OFFICE - NIGHT Blonsky, now in a soldier's uniform, sits on a seat before Ryker's desk. RYKER I'm glad you decided to listen to my offer. BLONSKY After breaking me out, I owe you that much...but not too much. RYKER Perhaps. But I know that Ross had you kept there. And I know what those doctors injected you with. Your gamma power has been suppressed, solider. Right now, you're just as strong as the rest of us. BLONSKY (smiles) With all due respect, I doubt that. RYKER You had your hands on a strength that surpassed even the Hulk and you used it to try and kill him. Instead, you got strangled into submission, had your powers blocked, and sat for months in that cell. I'm sure you want that strength back...and I can give it back to you. A beat. Blonsky shakes his head. BLONSKY You're bluffing. RYKER Am I? We've got some of the best doctors and scientists in the country here in this base. You give us the chance, we'll give you back your strength. We'll need your in our fold. (CONTINUED) 49. CONTINUED: RYKER To get the very thing you want the most, Blonsky...the Hulk. I believe that you would like to have another shot at taking him down. BLONSKY Yeah. (smiles) Yeah, I would. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - LAB - DAY Bruce sits at a table, looking at a blood sample in a microscope. He turns the dial and increases the magnification. Nearby, Betty sits at a desk and sets a slide with a drop of blood under the microscope. She looks at it a moment. A beat. Betty turns and writes notes on her notepad with her pencil. The door opens and Topolov enters the room. Bruce and Betty look up and look at Topolov. TOPOLOV Excuse the interruption, Doctor. How is your work going? BRUCE We're testing the other samples now, sir. We should be done soon. TOPOLOV Excellent. I need to pick up some more equipment and I'll be back in an hour or so. BRUCE All right. We'll see you later. EXT. JLI MAIN BUILDING - DAY Topolov walks away from the main building and to his car. His cell phone RINGS. Topolov reaches into his pocket and pulls out his cell phone. He pushes the talk button and holds it to his ear. TOPOLOV Hello? (a beat) Hello, sir. How did the mission go? (CONTINUED) 50. INT. ARMY BASE - MAIN LAB - DAY Ryker stands in the room, as several doctors are hard at work at the tables around the room. One is looking at a blood sample under a microscope. RYKER Perfectly. We got Blonsky out of the compound and we're analyzing his blood sample now. We should have the results on how to help him soon enough. TOPOLOV (O. S.) (on the phone) What about Banner? What do I do with him? RYKER You've done enough for him already. I already have some of my best men on their way to pick him up now. TOPOLOV (O. S.) (on the phone) Are you sure about this, sir? Getting Banner could be risky. RYKER I'm well aware of the risks, Doctor. Just get back home and finish your work. I have my own work to finish. Ryker hangs up his phone and puts it in his pocket. Ryker turns around and looks at Lab Doctor 1. RYKER Do you have anything yet? LAB DOCTOR 1 Not yet, sir. We've never seen these kinds of irradiated cells before, sir. We can't even identify the serum he's been injected with. RYKER That's not very encouraging news. Can you reverse the effects of the serum? LAB DOCTOR 1 I think so, sir. But it's going to take time. Unless we know what he's (MORE) (CONTINUED) 51. CONTINUED: LAB DOCTOR 1 (CONT'D) been injected with, trying to reverse the serum now will kill him. RYKER Take all the time you need. I don't want to lose our new trooper before we can see what he can REALLY do. Ryker turns and walks out of the main lab. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - LAB - DAY Bruce and Betty are hard at work at their microscopes, studying the blood samples. The phone on Topolov's desk RINGS. Betty stands up and walks over to the phone. She looks at the number on the caller ID. BETTY It's okay. It's Dr. Topolov. Betty picks up the phone, pushes the talk button and holds it to her ear. BETTY Hello? INT. TOPOLOV'S CAR - DAY Topolov drives down the street and holds his cell phone to his ear. TOPOLOV Dr. Ross, listen to me. You don't have much time... There is a BANGING sound on the other end of the phone. Topolov hears various GUNSHOTS on the other end. Two THUDS become audible on the phone. TOPOLOV Dr. Ross? INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - LAB - DAY Betty and Bruce lie on the floor, unconscious, with tranquilizer darts in their necks. Twenty Troopers are in the room, each armed with tranquilizer guns. TOPOLOV (O. S.) (on the phone) Dr. Ross? Are you there? (CONTINUED) 52. CONTINUED: Trooper 1 picks up the cell phone from the ground and holds it to his ear. TROOPER 1 Thanks for the distraction, Doctor. We've got them. Trooper 1 hangs up the phone. Trooper 1 turns around as Anthony enters the room. He smiles as he looks down at Bruce. ANTHONY Let's take them with us. INT. MAIN BUILDING - JOSH'S OFFICE - DAY Ross and Samson sit on chairs in front of Josh's desk. JOSH Listen, I've already told you. Dr. Feige and Dr. Bixby aren't here. They haven't come into the lab yet today. ROSS I know. We've got some of our men checking their home now. We want to know why they were here. JOSH They've been helping out in the radiology department. They've been working with Dr. Topolov on his new Transponder experiment. ROSS Trans-what? JOSH The Gamma Transponder. It's designed to accelerate the decay of gamma irradiated material, like blood cells. With the right adjustments, it can treat other types of radiation as well. There is a double knock on the door. The door opens and Zack enters the room. ZACK Hey, big brother...Am I interrupting? JOSH What is it? (CONTINUED) 53. CONTINUED: ZACK I wanted to tell you that Dr. Topolov isn't going to working in the lab today. He said he's going to be working at his home with his new assistants. JOSH I thought you were assisting him. ZACK Not this week. He wanted Dr. Bixby and Dr. Feige to help him out. They're at his house right now. SAMSON They are? ROSS I'd like a copy of Dr. Topolov's home address, Doctor. It's an emergency. INT. ARMY BASE - MEDICAL LAB - DAY Bruce is leaned back in a reclining chair, with his wrists and ankles chained to the chair. He's wearing only purple pants and he looks groggy, dazed. Bruce struggles a bit, but stops and he slumps back on the chair. The door opens and Ryker enters the room. RYKER So, this is the great Bruce Banner. I must admit, it's an honor to meet you. You're a very difficult man to find. BRUCE (groggily) Who...Who are you? RYKER Someone who wants what you have. We've taken a blood sample from you while you were unconscious. But it's not just your blood I'm after, Banner. Ryker points across the room at a large, wide machine that stands nearby. RYKER I'm going to do what Ross has been trying for years...to separate you from (MORE) (CONTINUED) 54. CONTINUED: RYKER (CONT'D) the Hulk, cut it open, and make it a weapon. I'll have an army of soldiers with the strength of the most powerful creature ever to walk the Earth...You. BRUCE (groggily) You're bluffing...There... There's no machine... that can do that. RYKER None that you know of. You see, I've gained access to every previous note and file on the Gamma Pulse project, and on everything Dr. Sterns ever tried with you. I've even got the samples of the antidote he concocted. Bruce looks at Ryker, stunned. Ryker smiles. RYKER You have no idea what I'm capable of, son. I've got you drugged now, but it will wear off soon. When it does, I'll start the machine and draw out the Hulk...with a little help from some new friends. Ryker turns around as the door opens. Bruce looks at the doorway and looks on in shock. Blonsky walks over to Bruce's table and smiles. BLONSKY Remember me? BRUCE (groggily) You...How did... BLONSKY I'm not exactly sure myself. But the General here is going to help me get my strength back. And you... (smiles) Well, after the Hulk is separated from you, you won't be needed anymore. A beat. Bruce looks at Ryker groggily. BRUCE Where's Betty? (CONTINUED) 55. INT. ARMY BASE - JAIL CELL - DAY Betty stands in the room, with her arms raised and her wrists chained to the ceiling. Two Guards stand nearby, keeping watch. Anthony stands in front of Betty and he smiles at her. ANTHONY Comfy, Dr. Ross? BETTY Where's Bruce? ANTHONY Oh, don't worry about him. General Ryker's taking good care of him. We just need to keep you here to make sure Dr. Banner keeps in line. I doubt he'll make any trouble as long as you're here. Betty sneers at him. A mid-40s Soldier, HARRISON, enters the room. ANTHONY Keep a close eye on her, Harrison. HARRISON Yes, sir. Anthony smiles at Betty. ANTHONY Don't make him angry. It'll be safer for you if you don't cause trouble. Anthony walks away and out of the room. He shuts the door behind him. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - OFFICE - DAY Topolov is seated at his desk and has placed his empty syringe in the drawer. There is a loud banging on his front door and Topolov turns around. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - MAIN HALL - DAY Topolov walks to the front door and opens it. Ross, Samson and several Soldiers stand on his front porch. ROSS Dr. Topolov, I'm General Ross. We need to talk to you...now. (CONTINUED) 56. INT. ARMY BASE - MEDICAL LAB - DAY Bruce's chair is set next to the machine, and he has electrode pads on his temples, chest and heart. Ryker stands next to Bruce, with six LAB DOCTORS and a dozen armed TROOPERS present. The doctors are working on the machine, typing on its controls and powering it up. RYKER Just think...in a few moments, I'll be able to separate the Hulk from you, and I'll have the perfect genetic soldiers at my disposal. BRUCE I'll never let you do that. RYKER You sound like you have a choice. Ryker nods at Lab Doctor 3. He pushes a button on the controls, and Bruce is briefly shocked. Bruce GRUNTS and writhes from the shocks. Lab Doctor 3 pushes the button again and turns off the shocks. Bruce closes his eyes, out of breath. Lab Doctor 3 pushes the button again and Bruce GRUNTS as he's shocked again. INT. ARMY BASE - MUTATION LAB - DAY - CONTINUOUS Anthony sits shirtless in a chair, with his wrists and ankles shackled down. Lab Doctors 1 and 2 stand at the control unit, as a gamma machine looms behind Anthony and its scanner is just inches above his head. Blonsky stands nearby and watches. BLONSKY Why can't I get back on that thing? Won't it give me my strength back? LAB DOCTOR 1 Until we can reverse the serum you were injected with, another dose of gamma exposure will kill you. For now, we're just going to use the gamma scanner to enhance Masterson's own injection, in case the Hulk goes AWOL. LAB DOCTOR 2 Are you ready, sir? ANTHONY Give me your best shot, doc. (CONTINUED) 57. CONTINUED: Lab Doctor 1 flips the switch. The machine buzzes and the green targeting light hits Anthony's forehead. The scanner moves from left to right and then back to the left. Anthony shuts his eyes, GRUNTS with pain, and starts to change. The Doctors stare in shock and Blonsky stares at him. BLONSKY Lucky b***ard. INT. ARMY BASE - MEDICAL LAB - DAY Lab Doctor 3 pushes the button again and Bruce GRUNTS as he's electrocuted. Ryker watches Bruce writhe from the shocks. Lab Doctor 3 pushes the button and Bruce is PANTING and sweating. Ryker looks at the Doctor. RYKER What's wrong with you? Zap him again! LAB DOCTOR 3 We can't, sir. We don't want to risk zapping him higher and killing him. If Banner dies before the machine begins the separation, the Hulk will die too. RYKER Then let's take another approach to making him mad. Ryker turns on a TV screen nearby and it shows footage of Betty and Harrison in the jail cell. Bruce sees Betty on the TV. Ryker pushes his headset's button. BRUCE Betty? RYKER Harrison, give her ten. Harrison walks over and grabs a bullwhip from the table. He walks over and stands behind Betty. BRUCE No! Don't! Harrison lashes Betty's back and she spasms as she lets out a startled GASP. He whips her back again and then again. BRUCE Stop it!! Leave her alone!! (CONTINUED) 58. INT. ARMY BASE - JAIL CELL - DAY The whip hits Betty's back again. She shuts her eyes tight and flinches as she writhes. A beat. Harrison whips her back again and Betty MOANS as she writhes. INT. ARMY BASE - JAIL CELL - CONTINUOUS Bruce watches the TV and flinches as he sees Betty is lashed again. A beat. Harrison whips Betty's back again and she SCREAMS in pain. Bruce looks at Ryker. BRUCE Stop it! Don't hurt her! Ryker ignores him. He watches the TV and Betty SCREAMS as she's hit again. A beat. Harrison lashes her again. Bruce looks at Ryker, upset. BRUCE Ryker!! RYKER Soldier, stop. Betty SCREAMS after Harrison whips her back again. He stops and lets Betty dangle against her restraints. She's out of breath and sweating. Bruce eyes her in concern and he struggles to get loose. He can't. RYKER Drop the whip. Draw your gun. Bruce looks at the TV angrily. Harrison drops the whip and draws his gun from his belt holster. RYKER On my mark...put it to Dr. Ross's head. One... BRUCE No!! RYKER Two... Bruce's eyes glow green. He struggles against his restraints. BRUCE (screams) NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! (CONTINUED) 59. CONTINUED: Ryker looks at Bruce. His muscles begin to swell and enlarge. Bruce's height begins to grow. He shuts his eyes, his VOICE CHANGES as he GRUNTS, and his skin changes to green. Ryker looks at the Doctors as they push buttons on the control panel. RYKER Is the sequence starting up? LAB DOCTOR 4 The system will be up in a moment -- Bruce, still changing into Hulk, ROARS with rage as he breaks free of his restraints. His eyes burn green as he becomes the Hulk and he swats his left fist at the machine. The top half BREAKS OFF as his fist hits it and the DOCTORS SCREAM as they move back from the controls. Ryker steps back angrily as he pushes the button on his headset and the Hulk notices Ryker. RYKER All units, be advised. The target is loose. When Masterson's ready, send him out and have him lead the troopers to confront the target. The separation machine has been destroyed. Hulk grabs the broken chunk of the machine and ROARS as he throws it at Ryker. Ryker leaps away and lands on the ground. Hulk turns to the Lab Doctors and they SCREAM and run away. Hulk looks at the TV and notices Betty on the screen. He calms down and eyes her in concern. Hulk sets his hand on the screen. HULK Betty... Hulk turns to see Lab Doctor 3 is the last to reach the door. Hulk grabs the Doctor by the collar, pulls him back, and turns him around to face Hulk. HULK Where Betty?!? INT. ARMY BASE - JAIL CELL - DAY Harrison steps away from Betty and pushes the button on his headset. HARRISON Sir? What's going on? Do you want me to engage? (CONTINUED) 60. CONTINUED: A beat. There is a loud CRASHING sound on the other end of the headset. HULK (O. S.) ROARS with rage in the distance. HARRISON What's that noise? INT. ARMY BASE - MEDICAL LAB - DAY Ryker looks down at the large, freshly-made hole in the ground. RYKER The target's on the move and headed right for you. If I were you, I'd step away from Dr. Ross before he -- There is a SMASHING sound on the other end of the headset. GUNSHOTS ring out. Ryker hears HULK (O. S.) ROAR angrily and then HARRISON (O. S.) SCREAMS. The sounds of a PUNCH, a CRACK, and a THUD follow. Ryker pushes the button of his headset. RYKER All units, he's at the jail sector of sub-level two. He's found Dr. Ross. INT. ARMY BASE - JAIL CELL - DAY - CONTINUOUS Harrison lies on the ground, unconscious. The wall behind him is cracked from his unseen collision onto it. Betty looks over her shoulder and looks at Hulk. He notices her and eyes her in concern. Hulk walks over and stands behind Betty. He notices the slashes through the tears of the blood-stained back of her shirt. Hulk GROWLS with anger and looks up at Betty. Hulk grabs her chains and BREAKS them with ease. She falls forward and Hulk catches her in his hand. INT. ARMY BASE - MUTATION LAB - CONTINUOUS Lab Doctors 1 and 2 step back from Anthony's chair in shock. Blonsky looks at ANTHONY (O. S.), stunned. RYKER (O. S.) (on headset) Ryker calling Mutation Lab. Where's Masterson? LAB DOCTOR 1 He's gotten his mutation, sir. But it's not quite what we expected it to be. (CONTINUED) 61. CONTINUED: Anthony sits in the chair, his restraints broken. His skin is dark green, his eyes are white with no pupils or irises, he has fang-like teeth and he is bald. Anthony looks like a green zombie -- ANTHONY is now HALF-LIFE, in ZOMBIE form. Half-Life stands up, he puts on a headset, and he smiles. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) Don't worry, sir...I feel better than you think. Where's the target now? INT. ARMY BASE - SUB-LEVEL TWO HALL - DAY WHAM!! Two SOLDIERS SCREAM as they are shoved across the hallway, and they hit the ground hard. The Hulk enters the hall, holding Betty in one arm. Several Troopers run into the hall and stand at the Hulk. They open fire at him and he turns to his side, moving Betty away from the gunfire. Hulk ROARS and punches his free fist into the ground. The ground SHAKES and the floor splits open. The floor splits open before the Troopers and they shake off-balance. Hulk grabs a broken chunk of floor debris with his free hand and GROWLS as he throws it at the Troopers. The Troopers SCREAM and leap away, but two are hit by the debris and they hit the ground hard. Hulk turns to his left into the next, wider hallway, and walks out of sight. INT. SUB-LEVEL TWO - WESTERN HALL - CONTINUOUS Hulk walks down the hall and holds Betty closer and gently. Hulk stomps down the hall as he looks around for an exit. Betty looks to the right and notices a new hall. The exit doors are visible. BETTY Over there! We can get out here! Hulk turns to the exit hallway. Hulk turns and walks towards it, when Half-Life walks into the hallway. He is wearing a black leather uniform. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) Going somewhere? Hulk turns around and Betty GASPS at the sight of Half Life. He smiles and makes his hands into fists. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) What's wrong, Hulk? Don't recognize me? Hulk GROWLS at Half-Life as he walks towards them. (CONTINUED) 62. CONTINUED: HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) Ryker decided to let me have you to myself. Let's see what you've got. Hulk looks at the nearby janitor's closet, he opens it and he sets Betty down inside. Betty looks on as the Hulk walks over to Half-Life. BETTY Bruce, wait! Don't! HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) Come on! Give me your best shot! Hulk ROARS and punches his fist at Half-Life. Half- Life flips away and Hulk's fist hits the floor instead. Hulk turns around and is kicked in the ribs by Half- Life. Hulk swipes at Half-Life with one hand, but he dodges it. Hulk tries again, but Half-Life dodges the swipe. Hulk punches at Half-Life, but he ducks and he kicks the Hulk in the gut. Hulk stumbles back, but he isn't hurt. Hulk reaches for Half-Life and Half-Life grabs his fist with both hands. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) What do you think you're -- Half-Life stops as his hands glow green. He is stunned to watch the energy from his hands shine over Hulk's hand. Hulk GRUNTS as Half-Life holds onto him and then he gets out of Half-Life's grip. Half-Life's hands have tinged a lighter-green and are slightly larger. Betty looks on from nearby in shock. Hulk rubs his hand and Half-Life smiles. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) Don't know what that was...but I sure as h*ll want MORE! Half-Life reaches for Hulk again, but is met by a kick to the mid-section. Half-Life is sent flying back a good thirty feet and he hits the ground, hard. Half- Life GROANS as he sits up under the floor he's cracked from the impact. He rubs the back of his neck and stands up. Half-Life smiles. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) Barely felt a thing. Hulk GROWLS and Half-Life leaps at him. He delivers a jump-kick that hits Hulk in the stomach. Hulk staggers back and GRUNTS, stunned. Half-Life kicks Hulk again. (CONTINUED) 63. CONTINUED: (2) Hulk staggers back a few steps. Half-Life smiles and kicks at Hulk again. This time, he catches Half-Life's foot, pulls and SLAMS Half-Life back-first against the side wall. Half-Life falls and hits the ground. Hulk kicks him in the stomach and he rolls over as he's knocked away. Half-Life recovers, turns back to Hulk and gets to one knee. Hulk GROWLS angrily. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) Whatever you've done to me...I sure love the power I've gotten! Hulk GROWLS and punches at him. Half-Life dodges and grabs Hulk's wrist. The energy from his hands saps Hulk of more of his strength. Hulk GRUNTS and tries to pull Half-Life off, but he keeps hold of him. Hulk GROWLS as he pulls harder and he throws Half-Life across the hall. He's sent flying backwards a good hundred feet and he SMASHES through the shut doors to the next hall. Half-Life falls and hits the ground on top of the broken doors. Hulk rubs his wrist and looks down the hall at Half- Life. When Half-Life sits up, the skin of his entire body is a lighter green and he looks more human than grotesque. Half-Life smiles and stands up. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) That was your best shot? Let me have another taste of you, greenie! Hulk sneers and pounds his fists down into the ground. The ground breaks open and makes several large chunks of debris. Half-Life LAUGHS at him, amused. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) What are you doing? In answer, Hulk picks up the first large piece of debris and ROARS as he throws it. Half-Life notices the debris is headed right at him, and he rolls under the debris. As it hits the floor, Half-Life runs down the hall and Hulk picks up another chunk of debris. He throws it at Half-Life. He dodges it with an acrobatic leap and the chunk of debris hits the floor. Hulk GRUNTS and grabs two chunks of debris. He holds one piece in each hand and charges at Half-Life. Half-Life leaps at Hulk and his hands reach out for him, but Hulk ROARS and Half-Life is met with a punch to the face. Half-Life is knocked down and hits the ground hard. HULK ROARS as he punches with his debris-covered right hand, and he hits down hard onto Half-Life's stomach. (CONTINUED) 64. CONTINUED: (3) Hulk ROARS and punches his other debris-covered fist onto Half-Life's face. The punch knocks him back down to the floor, but barely hurts him. Hulk looks up and GROWLS. He throws the two chunks of floor debris at the ceiling and they CRASH through. Hulk turns and he runs off, as the two debris pieces fall down -- along with the broken chunks of the ceiling. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) OH, SH-- WHAM!! The ceiling debris rains on top of Half-Life and buries him before he can move. He is covered over by the debris, out of sight. A beat. Hulk looks at the debris and GROWLS. He turns around and walks to the janitor's closet. Betty steps out and she walks over to the Hulk. Betty turns her head to the exit and she looks out of the window. EXT. ARMY BASE - BACK SIDE - DAY An small army of Troopers, at least sixty, stand armed and ready outside. They hold their guns at the exit doors, awaiting their arrival. TROOPER 1 We're awaiting at the exit, Ryker, as you instructed. It won't be long now. HULK (O. S.) ROARS inside. There is another SMASHING sound and a loud CRASH catches their attention. TROOPER 2 What's going on in th-- WHAM!! The doors are broken open and a chunk of ceiling debris is sent FLYING at some of the Soldiers near the doorway. They SCREAM and are knocked down as the debris hits them. SOLDIER 4 What the f-- WHAM!! Another chunk of debris is thrown out and it collides onto Soldier 4, knocking him over. Another piece of ceiling debris is thrown out. WHAM!! It hits several Soldiers and they SCREAM as they're knocked down to the ground. Another piece of debris is thrown out and at a jeep. The SOLDIERS SCREAM as they leap out of the jeep and the debris pieces SMASHES into the jeep. Hulk steps out of the broken doorway, with Betty held close in his arms. (CONTINUED) 65. CONTINUED: SOLDIER 5 They're outside!! Fire!! Several Soldiers aim their guns at the Hulk and he angrily ROARS at them. The Hulk runs off as they open fire and he wraps his arms over Betty, covering her from the gunfire. Hulk runs off, away from the base, and down the back parking lot. He leaps ahead and he sails over a parked jeep. The Hulk hits the ground running and he leaps up higher into the air. Hulk leaps out of the base and away. INT. SUB-LEVEL TWO - HALL - DAY Ryker walks down the hall, with Blonsky and Lab Doctors 1 and 2 at his side. They notice the debris buried on top of HALF-LIFE (O. S.). LAB DOCTOR 1 What do we do now? RYKER Have our men dig him and then go back into the city. We're going to get Banner back into custody. BLONSKY Send them already. I can get Masterson out. RYKER That's not funny, soldier. You can't -- Blonsky ignores him and starts digging. To Ryker's surprise, he's able to lift some of the debris up and off. He tosses the rubble pieces away with ease and Ryker smiles. Blonsky stops as the rubble starts to shake. Half-Life's left fist punches up and out of the debris. His other hand punches out of the rubble and he pulls himself up and out from under the debris. LAB DOCTOR 2 My God. Lab Doctor 2 walks over and crouches next to Half-Life. LAB DOCTOR 2 Your appearance...you've changed even further since you left the lab. RYKER Doctors, help him out of there. (CONTINUED) 66. CONTINUED: Lab Doctor 2 walks over, and the two Doctors grab Half Life's hands. They suddenly stop and GASP as the green energy from his hands glows into their hands. Half- Life's skin changes tinge to a chalk-white and his hands now have three claw-like fingers. The two Lab Doctors slip out of Half-Life's grip and they hold their hands, GASPING for air. In this white-skinned form, Half-Life now looks like a VAMPIRE. RYKER What did he do to you? LAB DOCTOR 1 (panting) I -- I'm not sure, sir. I feel dizzy. LAB DOCTOR 2 Me, too. I feel tired -- drained. Half-Life smiles and stands out of the rubble. HALF-LIFE (VAMPIRE) I feel rather better now...stronger. A YOUNG TROOPER runs down the hallway and stands next to Blonsky and Ryker. YOUNG TROOPER Sir! Twenty of our men are down! The Hulk -- He stops as he notices Half-Life. He grimaces. YOUNG TROOPER Oh my God. HALF-LIFE I need more... RYKER Masterson -- Half-Life grabs the Young Trooper's face and the YOUNG TROOPER SCREAMS as the energy from Half-Life's hands glows into his head. The energy transfer makes Half- Life's skin turn Caucasian, and when he blinks, Half- Life's pupils return. He reverts back to ANTHONY again. Anthony smiles and the TROOPER GASPS for air. Anthony smirks and drops Young Trooper to the ground. Blonsky crouches down and feels his neck for a pulse. The Young Trooper's breathing is in SLOW, SHALLOW GASPS, and he's barely alive. Ryker looks at Anthony. (CONTINUED) 67. CONTINUED: RYKER Was that really necessary? ANTHONY Yes, sir. I'm feeling better now... stronger. Ryker looks at his two Doctors. RYKER Get that young trooper to the sick bay, and then get Masterson to the clinic. I want you to find out what the gamma exposure did to him. LAB DOCTOR 1 Yes, sir. Blonsky stands up and steps back. The Doctors pick up the Trooper by his arms and drag him down the hall. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - CONTROL ROOM - NOON The clock on the wall reads 12:30 P.M. Topolov sits on a chair and Ross stands before him. ROSS Where did Ryker take them, Doctor? TOPOLOV I've told you, I don't know! I've never heard of this General Ryker before! ROSS Oh, really? We just happened to catch footage of those men in your lab on your home's hidden camera footage, and you don't know anything about it? TOPOLOV Dr. Bixby and Dr. Feige were staying at my home to complete their research for my Transponder! I've never even heard of their real names until now! ROSS Oh, really? Ross turns to the monitor to his left and he pushes the PLAY button on his remote control. It shows footage of Topolov's living room, with Topolov on the chair and Bruce and Betty seated on the couch. (CONTINUED) 68. CONTINUED: TOPOLOV (ON TV) And my work with the Transponder... you think it might be your only chance to cure yourself of this..."Hulk" of yours. Ross pushes the PAUSE button. He turns to the second monitor nearby. ROSS Or maybe you don't remember this. Ross pushes the PLAY button. It shows footage of Topolov, in his home's office, injecting himself in the arm with his syringe. ROSS You want to tell me what that serum we confiscated is for? TOPOLOV What?!? You took it?!? Ross hits the PAUSE button and glares at Topolov. TOPOLOV (CONT'D) (snaps) Give it to me! IT'S MINE!! ROSS And Betty is my daughter, but you sure as h*ll let them take her. No more games, Doctor. Where is Ryker keeping them? SAMSON (O. S.) (on headset) General! We've found them! Ross pushes the talk button of his headset. ROSS Where are they? SAMSON (O. S.) (on headset) They were spotted heading east, right for Dr. Topolov's house. We're headed there now to pick them up. ROSS When you find them, bring them back here. We need to keep them safe. (CONTINUED) 69. EXT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - NOON Hulk walks down the road and up to the garage. He holds Betty close to his chest, but gently. Hulk looks down at Betty and eyes her in concern. She sets her hand on his face. He smiles at her sadly. BETTY (softly) It's okay. Hulk looks at Betty's raw, bloody back and then at her. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - GARAGE - CONTINUOUS Hulk lifts the garage door open with his free hand and carries Betty in the other as he walks in the garage. Hulk walks over and he slowly, gently lowers her down. He sits her down before the front door, making sure her back doesn't touch the door. Hulk crouches down and he sits beside Betty. Hulk lowers his head, worn out. He turns his head to his right and he looks down at Betty. Betty looks up at him and looks into his eyes. She sets her hand over Hulk's. BETTY (softly) It's okay. It's going to be okay. Hulk stares at her a moment. He puts his large hand over hers and he gives her a sad smile. HULK Be-tty... Betty looks at the Hulk. He lowers his head, tiring. He blinks and his eyes turn blue. Hulk lowers his head and he starts to shrink in height. His muscles grow smaller, his hair turns brown, his skin turns back to Caucasian... Betty watches him in concern. Within moments, Hulk has changed back to BRUCE. Bruce lowers his head and GRUNTS. He wraps his arm around his side and nearly falls forward, but Betty catches him in her arms. She flinches, but still she helps him sit up. BETTY Easy, Bruce. Easy. It's all right. It's all right. (a beat) You're back now. (CONTINUED) 70. CONTINUED: Bruce looks at Betty and eyes her in concern. She smiles at him and holds his hand. BETTY It's all right. A beat. Bruce gets up and helps Betty stand. BRUCE Let's get you inside. INT. TOPOLOV'S HOME - BEDROOM - AFTERNOON Betty lies on her front on the bed. Her torn shirt is off and her bra is unfastened, leaving her naked back exposed. Bruce sits beside her and is tending to her slashes by wiping them with a wet rag. Betty grimaces as he tends to her, but keeps quiet. CU - ON BETTY'S BACK. Bruce's hand wipes the rag at one of the slashes for a moment. He pulls the rag away and shows her slashes have dried. Bruce dabs at a bloody slash with the rag. Betty flinches and MOANS. He eyes her in concern. BRUCE Sorry. BETTY It's all right. Bruce looks back at Betty. He continues to wipe the rag on her back. Bruce shakes his head. BRUCE I'm sorry about all of this. I can't believe Ryker had them do this to you... It's my fault. BETTY No, it's not. You can't blame yourself for this. BRUCE Betty...When they were hooking me up to that machine, trying to separate me from the Hulk... He told me Topolov was working for him. They planned this. BETTY So where do we go now? (CONTINUED) 71. CONTINUED: BRUCE We have no choice. We have to leave Los Angeles. BETTY But the Transponder... BRUCE It's no good to us if we're running away from Ryker, Topolov, or anyone else. It looks like we're going to have to leave and find another way. Bruce and Betty hear the DOOR SLAM in the hall. They look at the doorway. A beat. Rapid footsteps walk down the hall. Bruce hands Betty a towel and drapes it around her back. Bruce walks over and grabs a nearby poker by the room's fireplace. The door swings open and Bruce lifts his arm back to strike -- but stops as Samson holds up his hands in surrender. SAMSON Whoa, whoa, whoa!! Bruce, it's me! BETTY Leonard? How did you find us? Bruce drops the poker to the floor. Samson looks at the bed and notices the bloody rag and medicine on the bed, next to Betty. SAMSON Betty? What happened? BETTY We'll explain later. How'd you find us? SAMSON I'll explain it to you later. Right now, I need you two to come with me. Please. INT. ARMY JEEP - AFTERNOON Bruce and Betty sit in the back seats, wearing new shirts. Samson sits at the wheel. SAMSON General Ross told me that Ryker's men are still out on the streets, looking for you. But I promise you, you two will be safe with us. (CONTINUED) 72. CONTINUED: BETTY What does my father intend to do when we get there? What happens to Bruce? SAMSON He's not being captured, he's being protected. Tony Stark said you're even now. Said you'd know what he meant by that. BRUCE Yeah. Yeah, I do. BETTY What about that creature that attacked us? It was one of Ryker's men. SAMSON Judging from what you've said about that monster that fought the Hulk, it's clearly some kind of new gamma mutant. We've been trying to find out how he even got his hands on that information, but it seems he knows about Gamma Pulse. And if Blonsky's with him... BRUCE (in realization) Then he's going to turn him back into that abomination we saw in New York. SAMSON Don't worry about it. You've got me to help you guys out now, as well as the General...Not that he's thrilled about that, mind you. BETTY I'm not surprised. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - CONTROL ROOM - AFTERNOON Ross stands before Topolov and is holding a syringe of the serum in his hands. Five armed Soldiers stand around Topolov's chair and aim their guns at him. ROSS You have exactly ten seconds to tell me what this is or I'll dump your entire supply into the incinerator below. And judging from the amount we confiscated, that's a lot of serum to burn. (CONTINUED) 73. CONTINUED: TOPOLOV General, please. It's not what you think. ROSS Nine... Eight... Seven... Topolov's watch beeps an alarm. He looks panicked. TOPOLOV All right!! All right!! Give me the syringe!! PLEASE!! A beat. Ross notices the veins on Topolov's hands have turned gray. TOPOLOV General, please!! That's my only chance for a cure!! A beat. Ross hands him the syringe. Topolov's hands are turning gray. He quickly injects himself in the arm and empties the syringe. TOPOLOV Quickly... quickly... A beat. The gray tinge vanishes from his hands. His veins return to their normal color. Topolov looks up at Ross. ROSS What was that? TOPOLOV (sighs) My mutation. I've discovered a serum to keep my appearance from changing. Years ago, I was exposed to gamma radiation in one of my experiments. My skin turned gray, my intelligence become ten times higher and my head swelled up twice as large. Because of my mutation, my physical appearance was like that of a gargoyle. I stayed that way for years, until two years ago. I found a way to inject myself with a formula twice every day to look normal. ROSS That's why you kept out of the public eye so long, and why you came to L.A. (CONTINUED) 74. CONTINUED: TOPOLOV Yes. I can understand Dr. Banner's desperation for a cure, General. It's precisely why I invented the Gamma Transponder. I said I was building it for others like me, but I wanted to be the first to test it! It's my only hope for a permanent cure, just like Banner! ROSS And Ryker's been funding you, hasn't he? That's why you've been helping him. TOPOLOV I swear, General. I swear, I've only been working for a cure! I allowed him to take Dr. Banner so I could go ahead and cure myself! SAMSON (O. S.) (on headset) General, we're at the front gates now. We're heading in. ROSS That's good news. We'll be waiting in the main lab. SAMSON (O. S.) (on headset) Better make it the clinic. We need some new clothes and bandages waiting for us. ROSS What for? SAMSON (O. S.) (on headset) It's for Betty, sir. She's been hurt. A beat. Ross looks at Topolov, upset. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - CLINIC - AFTERNOON Betty sits on a bed, with Samson standing beside her. Bruce sits next to her. He holds her hand and she smiles. A mid-30s, blonde NURSE walks to her bed, holding a box of bandages. SAMSON Thank you. (CONTINUED) 75. CONTINUED: The doors slide open and Ross enters the room. Topolov follows next to him and two Soldiers follow them in. ROSS Betty. Are you all right? BETTY Yeah, I'm fine. ROSS What happened? BETTY Dad, it's not that bad -- ROSS Betty...Please. A beat. Betty turns around and lifts up the back of her shirt a little, showing him some of her wounds. Ross looks at Bruce and glares. ROSS You treated her? BRUCE Yes, sir. A beat. Ross nods. He turns to Topolov, upset. Topolov steps back and shakes his head. TOPOLOV I swear, General. I swear, she was never meant to be hurt. ROSS Take him to his quarters, and keep him locked up. Don't let him out of your sight. SOLDIER 1 Yes, sir. The Soldiers grab Topolov by his arms and escort him out of the room. The doors slide shut behind them. Ross turns around to Betty and Bruce. ROSS I'll fix this, Betty. I promise you that. (a beat) Do you know where Ryker's base is? (CONTINUED) 76. CONTINUED: BETTY Sort of. I didn't recognize the area, or know exactly where it was. ROSS Tell me everything you know. INT. ARMY BASE - MAIN LAB - AFTERNOON Ryker stands nearby and looks on as Lab Doctor 1 looks at a blood sample under his microscope. Blonsky stands nearby, next to Lab Doctor 2's desk. RYKER What do the test results show? LAB DOCTOR 1 It seems that Mr. Masterson's blood cells were affected in a negative way by the gamma exposure. It gave him some enhanced speed, strength and reflexes. But his cells aren't stable, sir. He's absorbing the energy and strength from those he makes skin-to-skin contact with. The weaker his victims get, the healthier Masterson gets. RYKER How long do the effects last? LAB DOCTOR 2 Well, we've already recovered. But if he holds on too long, he can easily kill anyone he drains the strength from. His human appearance is restored when he has absorbed enough energy, but I'm afraid he will revert to his old green-skinned form by tomorrow night. BLONSKY So he can't keep his normal appearance for long. LAB DOCTOR 1 Or keep his energy stabilized for long. He's basically like a vampire, but he needs to drain the energy of others to stay alive. RYKER What about Blonsky? When can we have the effects of his serum reversed? (CONTINUED) 77. CONTINUED: LAB DOCTOR 2 We're conducting a few tests with the blood samples now, sir. Within a day or two, we'll know if we found the antidote to his suppression serum. RYKER Double your efforts. The sooner we give him the antidote, the sooner we get our second gamma soldier up and running. LAB DOCTOR 2 Yes, sir. Ryker turns around and looks at Blonsky. Ryker smiles. RYKER Tell me, Emil. This serum that Ross injected you with, this "Super-Soldier" program... (a beat) Tell me. Would you mind participating in a few tests for me? I'd like to see first-hand just what you can do. INT. ARMY BASE - TRAINING ROOM - AFTERNOON Ten Troopers are around Blonsky. Ten more lie defeated on the ground. Blonsky kicks Trooper 1 back and he GASPS for air as he's knocked back nearly twenty feet. Blonsky spins around to Trooper 2, delivers a straight kick to his face, and he hits the ground unconscious. Blonsky turns to Trooper 3 as he swats a club at his head. He blocks the club easily with one hand, as the other delivers a haymaker that knocks Trooper 3 to the floor. Trooper 4 charges at Blonsky and he turns to face him. As Trooper 4 punches at him, he blocks the punch and grabs Trooper 4's collar. Blonsky GRUNTS angrily as he lifts Trooper 4 up, throws him away, and he SLAMS into Trooper 5 nearby. Both hit the ground hard and pass out. Trooper 5 holds his headset button. RYKER (O. S.) (on headset) Fire a warning shot at him and then run off. Trooper 5 notices Blonsky deliver a spinning heel kick that hits Trooper 6 across the jaw and the unconscious Trooper hits the ground. Trooper 5 fires a shot at Blonsky, but he dodges it easily. Blonsky notices and Trooper 5 turns and runs away. Blonsky smiles. (CONTINUED) 78. CONTINUED: BLONSKY Nice try. Blonsky runs after him and runs twice as fast as a normal person. Blonsky leaps out and delivers a jump- kick that hits Trooper 5 in the back and he GRUNTS as he collapses to the ground. INT. TRAINING ROOM - CONTROL ROOM - AFTERNOON Ryker looks into the next room through a glass shield. Anthony stands beside him and watches. RYKER Rather impressive, wouldn't you agree? ANTHONY What'd Ross do to him? RYKER Something similar to what we gave you. Only difference is, it looks like he might be tougher than you. ANTHONY (scoffs) I doubt that. RYKER Do I detect a hint of jealousy in that tone? ANTHONY Nah. Blonsky and I are buds, no doubt about it. Think of it more as, uh... "friendly rivalry". Ryker smiles and looks through the glass shield. In the next room, Blonsky has taken down nine of Ryker's Troopers. He delivers an uppercut to Trooper 10 and he hits the ground, unconscious, next to his colleagues. Blonsky pushes the talk button on his own headset. RYKER Well? How was the training exercise, soldier? BLONSKY Honestly, sir? (a beat) With all due respect, General, this little exercise was simply... too easy. (CONTINUED) 79. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - CLINIC - NIGHT Betty is sitting on her bed, with her wounds bandaged beneath her shirt. Ross sits on a chair, next to her bed. He looks at her in concern. ROSS How are you? BETTY Better. ROSS I've been looking for you, since you left. I've missed you. BETTY I know. I'm sorry. (a beat) How long is it going to be like this? How long will it be until you go after him again? ROSS I'm not allowed to capture Banner, for now. My orders are to keep you two safe from Ryker. BETTY What about the Transponder? ROSS There's no way we can get you into the Lambert Institute now. That'll be the first place Ryker will look for him. BETTY We have to try. We have to do something to help him. ROSS I know you want to get him in there. But even if I thought it would work, there's no way to get into the lab without drawing Ryker's attention. TOPOLOV (O. S.) I think I can help you with that problem, General. Betty and Ross turn to the doorway, to see Topolov in the doorway. Two Soldiers stand next to him. (CONTINUED) 80. CONTINUED: ROSS What are you doing out of your cell? BETTY What do you mean? TOPOLOV There's a secret entrance into the Lambert Institute. It was built in case there was no other way out from a fire or something. BETTY Then you can get us into the lab? TOPOLOV I can. But there's something else. I need to speak with Banner. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - MAIN LAB - NIGHT Bruce sits at a table, with Topolov seated at the other side. Samson, Betty and General Ross stand nearby. TOPOLOV And if we can get in to use the Gamma Transponder, I might be able to cure you of the metamorphoses you experience. But there's something else. BRUCE What? TOPOLOV I will need to make a serum to interact with your blood cells. I will need to make it so that you can take one now and the other when you're irradiated. ROSS Wait a minute. You said you wanted to cure Banner, and you're talking about giving him MORE gamma rays? TOPOLOV Using the same level of gamma radiation on the subject is the only way to match the negative gamma rays the Transponder will emit. When you're bombarded by the negative rays of the Transponder's laser, the serum will take effect and it will cure you. But there is one risk. TOPOLOV If we don't give you the negative gamma ray treatment shortly after you drink the second dose of the antidote serum, your blood cells will adapt to resist and reject the serum. It will make the serum ineffective for use a second time. SAMSON How long do you have after he drinks it before it becomes ineffective? TOPOLOV Five minutes. Give or take a minute. BETTY Can you use any of the chemicals and serums here to make the antidote? Topolov looks at the equipment on the lab tables around the large laboratory. A beat. He picks up one of the test tubes filled with a blue liquid. Topolov nods. TOPOLOV These should work. But it will take at least two days to make the serum and have it work. BRUCE Then let's not waste any time. We'll need to get started. Bruce walks over and joins Topolov at a table. They begin to work. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - MAIN LAB - AFTERNOON Bruce sits at a nearby table, mixing a beaker filled with a blue liquid. TITLE CARD DAYS WITHOUT INCIDENT: The countdown clock appears and counts down to 3. A beat. The title card and countdown clock both FADE AWAY. Bruce pours a red fluid into the beaker of blue liquid. He stirs the combined liquid with a metal spoon and it changes color to become a purple serum. (CONTINUED) 82. CONTINUED: Betty walks into the room and she stands next to Bruce. Bruce smiles at the serum. BRUCE It worked, Betty. It's going to work. Betty smiles. She hears a door close behind her and she turns around. Topolov walks towards a table, where Samson is seated. Ross stands beside him and he nods at Topolov. Betty walks over and watches as Topolov injects a syringe of green liquid into Samson's arm. BETTY Wait! What are you doing? ROSS Calm down, Betty. Let him finish. Topolov empties the liquid into Samson's arm, and then he pulls out the syringe's needle. Samson looks at Betty and she sits beside him. SAMSON Don't look so worried. I'm okay. BETTY What just happened? TOPOLOV I was able to take a blood sample from Dr. Samson. It wasn't easy, mind you, but I was able to study his unstable blood cells and find a way to stabilize them so that his physical strength does not need to increase by the growth of his hair. BETTY You mean... SAMSON (nods) That's right. I've got my full gamma strength back and I'm going to be just fine. Betty turns and looks over at Bruce. He is looking into a microscope at a sample of the purple serum. She walks over and stands beside him. BETTY Bruce? What is it? (CONTINUED) 83. CONTINUED: Bruce turns to Betty and smiles. BRUCE It's one of my blood samples. Look. Betty looks down into the microscope. BETTY'S POV - The purple serum is enhanced in the microscope slide. Red blood cells and green irradiated blood cells are covered by the serum. A beat. The green cells change color to red cells...and stay red. Betty looks at Bruce. She smiles. She starts LAUGHING. Bruce smiles and LAUGHS. BRUCE It works! Bruce and Betty hug each other. She's so happy that tears roll down her cheeks. BRUCE (laughing) It WORKS!! INT. ARMY BASE - MAIN LAB - AFTERNOON Blonsky is seated, shirtless, on a bed in the lab. Lab Doctors 1 and 2 stand at either side of Blonsky. Ryker and Anthony stand nearby, looking on. The Lab Doctors each hold up a syringe of green serum. RYKER Is this serum going to work? LAB DOCTOR 2 Yes, sir. We've already done six tests with the gamma serum on Blonsky's blood samples. The antidote was permanently wiped out every time. RYKER Then go ahead and proceed. Blonsky smiles as the Doctors stab the syringes into his neck and inject him with the serum. The serums are emptied and the Doctors remove the syringes. Blonsky looks over at Ryker and smiles. BLONSKY How long do I have to wait before the antidote wears off? (CONTINUED) 84. CONTINUED: LAB DOCTOR 1 Within a few minutes, sir. But there is a problem. BLONSKY (annoyed) Problem? What problem? LAB DOCTOR 2 The antidote will be gone shortly, but you won't be able to change back. BLONSKY What?!? Why not?!? ANTHONY Relax, Blonsky. We'll strap you to our gamma scanner and then you'll be -- LAB DOCTOR 1 (interrupts) That won't work, either. The level of gamma exposure will have to be much higher than that of the scanner. Our equipment won't be able to change you back. BLONSKY Then what will? LAB DOCTOR 2 We've checked every lab in the city and the only device capable of giving you back your strength is at the Joshua Lambert Institute. RYKER The Gamma Transponder. (turns to Anthony) I want every available unit to search the city and find out where Ross is holding Dr. Topolov. Without him, we can't operate the Transponder. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - MAIN LAB - AFTERNOON Ross stands at a lab table, with Topolov seated at his desk and looking in a microscope. ROSS How soon can you get us to the Lambert Institute? (CONTINUED) 85. CONTINUED: TOPOLOV Tonight. We can go in at nine, after the Institute closes. If we use the secret entrance, we'll be able to get into the lab without being seen by the security cameras. ROSS I'll let the others know. But if you cause anything to go wrong... TOPOLOV (interrupts) Nothing will go wrong, General. Don't forget -- this is my last chance for a cure, too. ROSS I'll gather my best men and we'll leave tonight. Topolov nods. Ross turns and walks out of the room. EXT. JLI - NIGHT Three black delivery vans drive down the road and to the JLI indoor parking lot. INT. PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS The vans park at a corner at the far side of the parking lot. The doors open and Topolov (at the wheel), Ross, Samson, Bruce and Betty get out of the first van. General Turner, Lt. David, Capt. Ferrigno, Kat, and two Soldiers get out of the second van. Six Soldiers step out of the third van. They all walk down the parking lot and follow Topolov to the left side wall. He flips a hidden switch and part of the wall opens up, revealing a tunnel with a staircase that leads up. TOPOLOV Follow me. It's a long walk up. INT. MAIN BUILDING - MAIN LAB - NIGHT At the far left corner, a hidden door slides open. Topolov walks into the lab. He looks around the empty room a moment. A beat. He walks back to the doorway. TOPOLOV It's all clear. We're alone. (CONTINUED) 86. CONTINUED: Ross and Samson walk out of the doorway. Bruce and Betty are the next to walk out. Ferrigno, David, Kat, Turner and the Soldiers follow them out and Topolov walks to the next room. TOPOLOV This way. Hurry. INT. MAIN LAB - BACK ROOM - NIGHT Topolov stands in the room, in front of the control panel at the side wall. He is typing on its keyboard. Topolov stops typing, turns up three of the dials, and then he pushes a red button on the control pad. The upper half of the Transponder opens up and the sides move out to the sides, almost wing-shaped. Under each side is a round orb, that glows with white light. The round tip of the Transponder nozzle glows with red light. Across the room, the Soldiers stand by a desk, with several folders and journals set on the desk. TOPOLOV We're almost ready. Topolov looks over and he nods at Ross. TOPOLOV I'll go first. SAMSON What? No! TOPOLOV The Transponder has never been tested. If something goes wrong, it could kill whoever is exposed to it. BETTY But you're the only one who knows how to work the Transponder. TOPOLOV Don't fret, Dr. Ross. My notes are here on the desk. See for yourself. Betty walks over and to the desk. She picks up a journal and opens it. A beat. She turns to the next page and looks at the notes. A beat. Betty looks up at Topolov. BETTY He's right. (CONTINUED) 87. CONTINUED: TOPOLOV Dr. Banner, please. I've waited for decades for this. Let me have my cure, and then you will have yours. A beat. Bruce SIGHS. He nods at Topolov. INT. RYKER'S VAN - NIGHT Ryker is at the wheel of his van, with Blonsky at his side. Anthony and a Trooper sit in the back passenger seats. All are wearing headsets. LAB DOCTOR 1 (O. S.) (on headset) Sir, we've got audio from the main lab. We've found Dr. Topolov. He's curing himself, and then he's going to cure Banner. RYKER We're almost at the Institute now. We'll join them shortly. INT. MAIN LAB - BACK ROOM - NIGHT Topolov is seated in the chair, with his wrists and ankles strapped down to it. The Transponder's tip is glowing brighter. Betty stands at the controls of the Transponder. She flips a small switch up. TOPOLOV Good. Now turn up the dials to level nine, please. Betty turns the three dials of the controls up from 1 to 9. The Transponder BUZZES, and it gets LOUDER as it powers up. TOPOLOV Push the red timer button to start the sequence. Betty pushes the button. The timer clock lights up and reads 10 seconds. It counts down slowly. 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... 0. BZZZZZZZZZZT!!! The Transponder fires a green ray into Topolov's chest and he SCREAMS. His skin and veins turn gray, his eyes turn red, and his head swells from the forehead up. Topolov looks like a gray GARGOYLE. Everyone present stares in shock as Topolov convulses. (CONTINUED) 88. CONTINUED: TOPOLOV SCREAMS LOUDER as the laser burns brighter. As Topolov struggles, he shuts his eyes tight. His skin and veins change color, returning to their normal tinge. The upper half of his head starts to shrink and reverts to normal. TOPOLOV IS NORMAL -- CURED. The laser continues to zap Topolov's chest and he SCREAMS as he convulses against his bonds. The laser suddenly stops, the Transponder's BUZZING SLOWS AND STOP, and Topolov lies still in the chair. A beat. It's over. BRUCE Leonard, help me. Samson and Bruce rush to Topolov's side and they remove the straps from his wrists and ankles. Upon finishing, Topolov MOANS and slumps down in the chair. A beat. Topolov opens his eyes. They're normal. Bruce smiles at him. TOPOLOV (groggily) Banner? Did it...? BRUCE You did it, sir. You're cured. A beat. Topolov smiles and closes his eyes. TOPOLOV LAUGHS. He sits up in the chair and smiles. TOPOLOV (laughing) Oh, thank you! Thank you, everyone! You've given me a wonderful gift! (turns to Bruce) I am a man of my word, comrade. It's your turn. Hop on the Transponder. Bruce smiles and nods. He sits on the Transponder and Samson holds up the syringe of purple fluid. He injects it into Bruce's neck and empties it. Topolov and Samson proceed to strap Bruce into the chair. They stop as Samson is suddenly shot in the neck by a lone tranquilizer dart. He hits the ground, stunned. Ross turns around and is met with a gun to the back of his head, as Anthony stands behind him. Bruce and Betty look around the room, as the hidden back door is wide open and at least thirty Troopers aim their guns at the Soldiers, Ferrigno, David, Turner and Kat. Ryker and Blonsky walk into the room. Ryker smiles. BLONSKY I believe you're in my seat, Banner. (CONTINUED) 89. CONTINUED: (2) BRUCE Blonsky, don't... Blonsky holds up his gun and aims it at Betty. He shoots it at her and misses her arm, but grazes the sleeve. BETTY GASPS and moves back. BRUCE NO!! Blonsky aims his gun at Betty again and Bruce gets out of the chair. TOPOLOV Doctor, don't! Keep calm, or it won't work. Bruce keeps calm and steps away. Topolov stands in front of Betty and moves her back. Samson tries to stand, but can't. Blonsky smiles. BLONSKY Like our special needles we used for your syringe? What's the name of that alloy, sir? Adam-something, right? RYKER Don't worry about it. The chair is all yours, Blonsky. Topolov, start the Transponder. TOPOLOV I'd rather die. RYKER What about them? You're not the only ones working late tonight. Ryker turns around and sees two more Troopers enter the room. One Trooper holds Josh's arm behind his back and the other holds Zack's arm behind his back. The Troopers aim guns to each man's temple. TOPOLOV All right! I'll do it! I'LL DO IT!! JOSH Who are you people? What's going on? RYKER Don't worry, Lambert. Consider this a sneak preview test of your new project. (CONTINUED) 90. CONTINUED: (3) Blonsky sits in the chair. Two of the Troopers strap his wrists to the chair. Ryker looks at Topolov. RYKER Adjust the setting for gamma rays, old friend. Any tricks and this becomes the Lambert Memorial Institute. TOPOLOV I understand. Topolov turns the dials over and changes the frequency. The word DANGER flashes on the controls. Topolov flips a switch and the tip of the Transponder glows green instead. Blonsky smiles as a green target light hits his forehead. Ross steps forward to stop it, and is SHOT in the shoulder by Ryker. BETTY DAD!! NO!! Betty runs over and crouches by her fallen father. Ryker turns to Topolov and aims his gun at him. RYKER Start the countdown...Now!! Topolov nods. He turns to the control and pushes the timer button. It resets from 0 to 10. It counts down all over again. Bruce steps back, trying to keep calm. He notices Anthony's face is changing color to a pale white. His eyes lose their pupils and Anthony smiles. ANTHONY Looks like we're back to our old selves, Blonsky. Blonsky smiles. 3... 2... 1... 0. The Transponder fires a green laser into Blonsky's head and he stiffens in his bonds. Blonsky shuts his eyes tight and SCREAMS as he arches his back. He starts to struggle against his bonds, as his shirt rips off and his own mutation occurs. Bruce and Betty stare in shock. TOPOLOV Oh, my God. Blonsky's height gets bigger, his muscles quickly grow larger, his skin turns dark green... Within moments, he has reverted into the monstrous form of ABOMINATION, with spikes down his spine and spiked finger- and toe- nails. He's wearing only torn purple pants now. (CONTINUED) 91. CONTINUED: (4) ABOMINATION LAUGHS as he looks over at Ryker. Topolov flips a switch on his controls and the laser tip turns red again. ABOMINATION It's good to be back, sir. Abomination looks over and at Bruce. He smiles. ABOMINATION (CONT'D) And I'm in the mood for a real fight. Topolov runs over and stands before Bruce. TOPOLOV NO!! BRUCE, GET IN THE CHAIR NOW!! YOUR CURE IS READY!! JOSH Bruce? ABOMINATION Banner's cure? A CURE?!? Abomination grabs Topolov by the neck, lifts him up and pulls him up so they're face to face. BRUCE Stop!! ABOMINATION Sorry, Doc. Hulk is MINE!! Abomination turns and throws Topolov away. He SCREAMS as he hits the wall, cracking it upon impact, and he hits the ground, dead. Abomination smiles and walks to the Transponder. He grabs onto the Transponder's tip. ABOMINATION You want this, Banner? Abomination's grip tightens. Bruce shakes his head, panicking. BRUCE No!! Abomination smiles. He squeezes tighter. Anthony, now in his Half-Life Zombie form, watches with a smile. BRUCE No!! (CONTINUED) 92. CONTINUED: (5) Abomination smiles as Bruce runs at him. He RIPS the Transponder's laser OFF. BRUCE (screams) NOOOOOO!! Abomination drops the laser to the ground and STOMPS on the tip of it. Betty sadly looks at Bruce and tears well up in her eyes. Bruce crouches before the broken laser. He stares down at it and his eyes glow green. Bruce starts CRYING. He sets his hand down on the broken shards of the Transponder laser. BRUCE (crying) No... Bruce shakes his head as he cries. BRUCE (angrily) NO!! Abomination smiles at Bruce. Josh and Zack stare in shock. Bruce's green eyes glow brighter as he looks up at Abomination. BRUCE No... A beat. Bruce's skin changes to green. BRUCE (shouts angrily) NO!! Ryker and Half-Life smile at Bruce as he lowers his head. Josh and Zack stare in shock as Bruce's own metamorphosis occurs. Within moments, Bruce is the HULK again. Hulk GROWLS, lifts his head up, and tears roll down his face as he opens his eyes. Hulk GROWLS at Abomination, livid. ABOMINATION Hulk. HULK ROARS and TACKLES Abomination. Ross and Half-Life move away in time, as both men CRASH onto the ground. Hulk PUNCHES Abomination's face repeatedly. He punches faster...harder... He ROARS angrily, but is kicked off easily by Abomination and Hulk stumbles back. (CONTINUED) 93. CONTINUED: (6) ABOMINATION You used to be tougher. Abomination gets to his feet and charges at Hulk. Hulk tries to deliver a punch, but he's punched across the jaw and staggers back. Abomination punches Hulk on the gut, and then he delivers a haymaker to Hulk's jaw, and then lets loose an uppercut. The uppercut knocks Hulk back and he nearly falls over. Hulk recovers and charges at Abomination. He punches Abomination across the jaw and he stumbles back. Hulk quickly punches again, but Abomination kicks Hulk in the stomach and then delivers a punch that knocks Hulk backwards several feet and he SMASHES through the wall. Ryker walks over and stands by Abomination. RYKER The lab is too cramped. Go on out and get some more room. BETTY NO!! ABOMINATION LAUGHS and turns around to the side wall, facing the city. He punches the wall with both fists and it SMASHES an enormous hole in the wall. EXT. JLI - MAIN BUILDING - NIGHT Debris from the wall falls and lands on the ground below. Abomination leaps out of the wall, falls ten stories, and lands on his feet on the ground. He LAUGHS and runs right towards the city. INT. MAIN LAB - BACK ROOM - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS Half-Life looks at Betty and Ross and he smiles. HALF-LIFE Mind if I have a recharge? WHAM!! Half-Life is knocked down by a chunk of debris and hits the ground, pinned down. Ryker turns to see the Hulk has gotten to his feet and he's charging right at him. Ryker moves aside and the Hulk LEAPS out of the hole in the wall. He, too, heads outside and for the city. EXT. JLI - MAIN BUILDING - CONTINUOUS Hulk lands crouched on the ground, and he gets to his feet. Hulk ROARS as he runs right towards the city. (CONTINUED) 94. INT. MAIN LAB - BACK ROOM - NIGHT Ryker looks at his Troopers. RYKER Go to the city. Help Blonsky fight the Hulk. The Troopers nod and leave through the back lab door. The two Troopers let go of Josh and Zack and they too exit. Zack looks at Ryker, shocked. ZACK What were those things? What's going on? Half-Life shoves the chunk of debris off of him and he gets to his feet. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) Shut up, kid. Where did they go? RYKER Right for the city. But you're going to stay put. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) What? Why? RYKER You're not the only one in this room with gamma rays in your blood. Half-Life looks at Samson. He has gotten to all fours and he gets to his feet. Samson turns to Half-Life and the zombie smiles. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) All right, then. Let's see what you've got to offer. Half-Life flips at Samson and kicks at him, but Samson dodges it, quickly spins around and delivers a punch to Half-Life's back. Half-Life is knocked to the ground and Ryker holds up his gun. He waves it at Zack and Josh and they move aside. Ryker walks away and to the back door. RYKER All units, head away from the Institute and proceed to the city. The target is in the open. (CONTINUED) 95. CONTINUED: Samson duels with Half-Life and blocks his opponent's kicks. BETTY Leonard, don't let him touch you! It seems to make him stronger! SAMSON (while fighting) Got it! Dr. Lambert, help Betty and her father and get out of here! Samson is knocked back by a high kick and Half-Life reaches for his face. Samson kicks Half-Life in the stomach and knocks him back. Josh and Zack hurry to Betty's side, and they help her lift Ross up to his feet. They walk over to the nearby exit door. JOSH Doctor, what's going on? BETTY I'll explain this all later, but right now, we have to get out of here! Betty, Josh and Zack help Ross out of the room. Samson blocks Half-Life's two high kicks and then he blocks his kick to the face. Half-Life quickly lunges forward and grabs Samson's face with both hands. He GRUNTS as energy appears from Half-Life's hands and drains away some of his strength. Half-Life's form changes back to his VAMPIRE like appearance and Samson knees Half-Life in the gut, knocking him back a few steps. Half-Life recovers and smiles. HALF-LIFE (VAMPIRE) Banner's a better meal...but you'll do, for now. SAMSON Shut up and fight. Half-Life smiles and leaps at Samson. He lets loose a high kick to Samson's head, but he dodges it and Half- Life lands crouched behind him. Half-Life turns around and is met with a kick to the face by Samson. Samson delivers a quick double-punch combo to Half-Life's chest and he stumbles back. Samson tries to kick at him, but Half-Life dodges it and retaliates with a kick to his abdomen. Samson stumbles back and Half-Life reaches for him again. Samson grabs Half-Life by the wrists and stops him before he can grab his face. (CONTINUED) 96. CONTINUED: (2) Samson spins around and throws Half-Life aside. He is sent flying through the hole in the wall to the next room and hits the ground hard. Half-Life quickly recovers and gets to his feet. HALF-LIFE (VAMPIRE) Not bad...But now it's my turn! Half-Life charges at Samson to resume battle. EXT. CITY - NIGHT Several BYSTANDERS SCREAM with fear as they run away. A Taxi Cab is thrown and SMASHES into a building wall. More bystanders, some bruised and bloody, run away from the city in horror. BYSTANDER 1 No!! NO!! An EXPLOSION erupts from behind a tipped-over van. A Pizza Hut delivery car is THROWN and sails over the road. It falls and LANDS on top of three fleeing bystanders, CRUSHING THEM underneath. Down the road, Abomination THROWS a van across the street and it SMASHES through the M of a McDonald's sign. Both the van and the sign fall and land on top of parked cars in the parking lot, and bystanders are barely able to flee from the debris. Abomination LAUGHS and looks around the road. More people run away in fear and SCREAM with terror. ABOMINATION Thought he'd be here by now. Banner's gotten softer than I thought. Abomination grabs a taxi from behind, lifts it over his head, and THROWS it away. It sails over the road and SMASHES on the ground on top of three fleeing bystanders. Two fleeing bystanders stop running and barely miss getting crushed by the taxi. BYSTANDER 2 (screams) Oh, God!! Abomination smiles and turns around. He notices several cars trying to drive back and off the road. Abomination leaps ahead, right for a Police car, and the COPS INSIDE SCREAM. Abomination LANDS on top of the car and CRUSHES the two Cops inside, killing them. (CONTINUED) 97. CONTINUED: Down the road, the Hulk walks on the long stretch of road and further into the city. The bystanders that are running his way stop as they see him, and they step back from him. Hulk stops walking and looks ahead. He GROWLS with anger as he looks down the road. Abomination is in the middle of crushing the roof of a car on top of the scared young COUPLE inside and they SCREAM with fear. Abomination looks up and looks down the road. He smiles and moves forward. ABOMINATION Hulk! Hulk GROWLS like an angry animal as he moves ahead, past the bystanders, and he lets out a LOUD, ANGRY ROAR as he charges. Abomination charges back at him and the two get near one another. The bystanders run aside and clear a path for them. Abomination leaps at the Hulk and rears his fist back for a punch. Hulk leaps back at him and strikes first with a PUNCH to the jaw. The blow knocks Abomination back a good thirty feet and he lands on top of an abandoned taxi cab. Hulk lands crouched on the ground and charges at his enemy. Abomination gets up off of the taxi, turns to a broken flagpole, and lifts it up. Hulk moves in to attack, and Abomination whacks the pole across Hulk's jaw like a baseball bat, drawing blood from his mouth and nose. Abomination swats the pole across Hulk's jaw again and he staggers back. Abomination whacks the pole onto Hulk's gut and he staggers back. He swats the pole at Hulk again, but this time he catches it with his hand and breaks it in half. Hulk swats his half of the pole on top of Abomination's head and he staggers back. Hulk smacks the pole again, hits Abomination's jaw and sends him colliding back-first onto an abandoned car. Abomination gets to his feet and Hulk swats the pole at him again, but Abomination catches it with his hand. He delivers a kick to Hulk's gut and knocks him back a few steps. Hulk recovers and blocks Abomination's uppercut, but Abomination delivers a head-butt that sends Hulk flying across the street. He hits the wall of a building back-first and collapses to the ground. Abomination rubs his forehead and CHUCKLES evilly. ABOMINATION Let's see what you're really all about, Banner! Hulk gets up to his feet and GROWLS. Hulk turns and looks at the wall. (CONTINUED) 98. CONTINUED: (2) Abomination charges at Hulk, but he scales up the wall. His fingers dig into the wall as he climbs up the wall and hulk gets up higher and higher. Abomination leaps ahead, but Hulk lets go of the wall and aims his elbow down. As Hulk falls, he lets loose an ELBOW SLAM into Abomination's back while he's in mid-air. Both fall and CRASH into the ground. Hulk grabs Abomination by the throat, rolls him over, and proceeds to pound his fists down onto his face. One punch after the other, after the other, he hits Abomination's face with rapid succession. HULK ROARS with rage and his last punch draws blood from the Abomination's mouth. Abomination knees Hulk on the gut and pushes him back and off of him. GUNSHOTS hit the Hulk from behind and he turns around. Abomination gets up and notices two Army jeeps in the distance, with Ryker's Troopers firing guns at the Hulk. ABOMINATION This is MY fight!! Abomination grabs a nearby Wal-Mart truck and he ROARS as he throws it at them. The Troopers SCREAM as the jeeps move back, but the truck SMASHES onto both jeeps before they can leave. The truck knocks the jeeps over and to the ground, as Abomination turns his attention back to Hulk. Hulk turns to see Abomination charge at him and he GROWLS as he leaps at him. The two meet in mid-air and Abomination PUNCHES Hulk in the face. INT. MAIN LAB - BACK ROOM - NIGHT Half-Life delivers a kick that hits Samson across the jaw and he is knocked aside. Half-Life reaches for Samson's face and grabs it with his three-fingered hands. Samson GRUNTS as the energy from Half-Life's hands glow onto his face. Half-Life's hands get wider and his arms get more muscular. HALF-LIFE (VAMPIRE) Yes... Yes!! Samson grabs Half-Life's wrists, knees him in the groin and then throws him aside. Half-Life hits the wall back-first, stunned but unhurt. Half-Life gets to his feet and Samson punches at his chest. He flips over Samson easily and lands behind him. Samson turns around and is met with a spinning heel kick to the jaw. Samson staggers back and Half-Life kicks him in the chest. Samson steps back, but recovers. Half-Life launches another kick, but Samson catches his ankle. (CONTINUED) 99. CONTINUED: Samson pulls and sends Half-Life falling to the ground. Samson stomps at Half-Life, but he rolls aside and gets to one knee. He launches a spinning roundhouse kick to Samson's ankles, but he leaps over it. Half-Life gets up to his feet and charges at Samson. He blocks Half- Life's next kick and delivers a punch to Half-Life's stomach. Half-Life GRUNTS and stumbles back. His pale vampire appearance starts to fade and slowly changes to his green Zombie form. Samson smiles. SAMSON You can't hold onto my energy as long as Banner's, can you? That's why you keep reaching for me, to get to my strength. You're desperate. HALF-LIFE (ZOMBIE) I'll show YOU who's DESPERATE!! Half-Life kicks at Samson, but he dodges it. Half-Life launches another kick at Samson, but he blocks it and kicks Half-Life's stomach. He staggers back and then Half-Life is met with a kick to the jaw. He stumbles back, off-balance, and bleeds green blood. Half-Life GROWLS in anger and launches a jump-kick at Samson. He staggers back, but isn't hurt. Half-Life leaps onto Samson and grabs his face tightly. SAMSON GRUNTS as green energy flows over his face and Half-Life's hands. Half-Life's physique gets more fit, his muscles getting more toned. Samson punches at Half-Life, but he keeps his hold on him. Samson punches again with no effect, as Half-Life returns to his vampire form. HALF-LIFE (VAMPIRE) Your power is MINE!! Half-Life head-butts Samson's face and the impact knocks him down and knocks him out. Half-Life ROARS angrily and drops Samson to the floor. He stands up and turns to the hole in the main lab's wall. EXT. ROAD - NIGHT Ross sits in the back of a van, with Betty beside him. Josh drives his van down the road, with Zack seated in the passenger seat. Ross adjusts his headset. ROSS All units, employ containment units only for Blonsky. Do not engage the target. He's being dealt with by...other means. (CONTINUED) 100. EXT. CITY - NIGHT Abomination PUNCHES Hulk across the jaw, drawing blood from his mouth. Hulk staggers back and nearly falls over. Abomination delivers a backhand that knocks Hulk back a few steps. ABOMINATION LAUGHS and delivers a haymaker. Hulk blocks it, and JABS his fist into Abomination's gut. He's doubled over in pain. HULK ROARS and pounds both fists onto Abomination's back, and the hit knocks him to the ground. HULK GRUNTS and stomps his foot at Abomination, but he rolls aside. He stands up, blocks Hulk's right hook, and he lets loose a left hook that knocks Hulk back. Abomination delivers another punch that knocks Hulk across the street and he SMASHES through a bus stop bench. Hulk hits the sidewalk, cracking it. Abomination runs to him as Hulk gets to one knee. Hulk gets up and ROARS as he lets loose a left haymaker. BAM!! Hulk's haymaker knocks Abomination back and Hulk delivers a powerful backhand that knocks him back. Hulk charges to punch again, but Abomination kicks him back. Abomination gets up and Hulk delivers another punch to his face. Abomination blocks it and delivers a right haymaker across Hulk's jaw. He lets loose a kick that hits Hulk in the ribs and sends him flying back. Hulk SMASHES through a sign at the McDonald's restaurant we saw earlier. Hulk sits up and GRUNTS. He looks dazed. Hulk gets up and notices a large burger statue, bolted to the ground, that is on display by the sign. Hulk GROWLS as he runs over and he grabs the burger. Abomination charges at the Hulk and gets ready to attack. Hulk RIPS the burger off from the ground and picks it up. Hulk ROARS and he throws the burger. It rolls across the road like a bowling ball and, before Abomination can stop, it SMASHES into him. The impact knocks Abomination across the street and he hits the ground, hard. Hulk's previously-received wounds are starting to heal. Abomination sits up and his injuries have already healed. ABOMINATION LAUGHS as he stands up and he charges at the Hulk. Hulk, enraged, charges back at his approaching adversary. Hulk and Abomination meet at the street and they punch at each other. Hulk is able to hit Abomination's jaw with a haymaker, just as Abomination rams the spike on his right elbow into Hulk's left side. HULK ROARS with pain and Abomination smiles. Hulk grabs Abomination's arm and quickly pulls the spike out. Abomination grabs Hulk by the arm and throws him away. Hulk is thrown backwards at an office building nearby and -- (CONTINUED) 101. INT. OFFICE BUILDING - MAIN HALL - NIGHT SMASH!! Hulk SMASHES through the wall and hits the ground. The bystanders present inside SCREAM in fear and move back as Hulk sits up. Abomination walks in through the hole in the wall and Hulk gets up. Abomination throws a punch at Hulk, but he blocks it and punches Abomination across the jaw. He staggers back and the BYSTANDERS SCREAM as they run off, away from the fight. Hulk lands another left cross to Abomination's jaw and he punches again. This time, Abomination blocks the punch and punches Hulk on the face. Hulk stumbles back and Abomination kicks him in the chest. The kick knocks Hulk back and he hits the ground. Abomination leaps at him and prepares another punch, but Hulk kicks his feet up and hits Abomination in the stomach. The kick shoves Abomination up to the ceiling and then -- INT. OFFICE - SECOND FLOOR HALL - CONTINUOUS SMASH!! Abomination smashes through the ground and he hits the floor. People in the hall SCREAM and they run away in horror. Abomination gets up and turns around to see the fleeing bystanders. ABOMINATION Witnesses. Abomination moves away, just as Hulk's hands grab onto the hole in the floor. Abomination turns around to see Hulk pull himself up. He kicks Hulk in the face and he nearly lets go. Abomination delivers another kick, but Hulk keeps hold. Abomination STOMPS his foot on Hulk's right hand and his hand lets go. Hulk holds on with his left hand and Abomination STOMPS on his foot again. Hulk GRUNTS and GRABS his foot. Hulk PULLS and he SMASHES through the ground -- INT. OFFICE - MAIN HALL - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS Abomination and Hulk fall through the broken floor and they land with a SMASH!! Debris covers both of them, but they easily emerge out from under it. Abomination gets to his feet and the Hulk stands up, battle ready. Abomination tackles Hulk backwards, but Hulk turns and he SLAMS the Abomination down onto a nearby desk. It crumbles as Abomination hits the ground and he kicks Hulk off of him. He recovers as Abomination stands up and Hulk tackles Abomination. Abomination pushes Hulk back and THROUGH a wall. (CONTINUED) 102. INT. OFFICE - FIRST FLOOR HALL - NIGHT Abomination SMASHES Hulk back through a wall and more people SCREAM as they run in. The bystanders turn and run off to the exit. HULK ROARS and pounds Abomination on the gut with a jab. Abomination GRUNTS, but keeps his hold on the Hulk. Abomination backhands Hulk and he stumbles back. Abomination smiles and runs after the fleeing bystanders. Abomination swats one aside, and BYSTANDER 1'S SCREAM STOPS as he hits the side wall hard. The wall cracks from the impact and bystander 1 hits the ground, dead. Abomination digs the spiked nails of his left hand into BYSTANDER 2'S back and the man GASPS for air, but spits blood. Abomination tosses him aside and reaches out. He grabs a YOUNG BLONDE and she SCREAMS as Abomination pulls her back. YOUNG BLONDE Don't!! DON'T!! Abomination turns and throws her away. YOUNG BLONDE SCREAMS as she's thrown down the hall, but Hulk catches her with one hand and sets her down on her feet. Young Blonde looks up at Hulk fearfully and she steps back. Hulk gently double-pats his hand on her on the head and he turns to Abomination. Abomination smiles and grabs Bystander 3 by the collar. BYSTANDER 3 SCREAMS as Abomination spins around and throws him down the hall. Hulk catches Bystander 3, sets him down, and charges at Abomination. Abomination CHUCKLES and quickly kicks Bystander 4 on the back, hard. The kick BREAKS his back and BYSTANDER 4 SCREAMS as he's kicked forward and collides onto a few fleeing bystanders. Abomination grabs onto a water fountain on the wall, RIPS it out of the wall, and lifts it up to hit them with it. ABOMINATION Casualties of war, Banner! Hulk gets to Abomination and grabs onto the water fountain. He pulls it out of Abomination's hands with his left hand, and pulls Abomination aside with the other. Hulk ROARS and delivers a punch that KNOCKS Abomination backwards and they SMASH through the back wall to continue their fight. EXT. CITY - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS Hundreds of PEOPLE run away down the road and SCREAM as they run away, with hundreds more evacuating from the office building. The entire building SHAKES and distant SMASHING sounds become audible from within. (CONTINUED) 103. CONTINUED: SMASH!! Abomination is knocked out through the front doors of the office, lands on the road back-first and he hits the ground hard. Hulk steps forward to leave through the broken doorway, but Abomination gets up and runs to the doorway first. Abomination punches his hands into the wall, pushes his hands harder into the building and it CREAKS. Hulk stops and looks up at the cracked ceiling above. SMASH!! The office caves in and buries on top of Hulk. The entire BUILDING is destroyed. Abomination steps back and smiles. A beat. Silence. Abomination turns and walks off. Part of the rubble shakes and he stops walking. Abomination turns around to the rubble. WHAM!! Part of the ceiling debris is thrown and hits Abomination square in the face. Hulk gets up and out of the debris, bleeding from his nose, mouth and the deep cuts in his left side, chest and back. Hulk angrily marches out of the debris towards Abomination. Abomination punches at Hulk, but he blocks it. The HULK ROARS and he kicks Abomination in the gut. He staggers back, unhurt, and moves in again. He punches at Hulk, but Hulk strikes out first with an uppercut. Abomination is knocked backwards by the uppercut and nearly falls over. Hulk punches at him again, but Abomination blocks it and grabs Hulk by the throat. He STABS the spike grown out from his left elbow into the right of Hulk's chest. HULK GRUNTS with pain as he moves his arm down and cuts diagonally into Hulk's chest. Hulk grabs Abomination's arm and pulls the spike out, but is met with a left haymaker. Hulk stumbles back, dazed. Abomination looks on as Half-Life flips onto the roof of a nearby car behind Hulk. Abomination GROWLS angrily. ABOMINATION Don't!! Hulk tries to turn, and Half-Life leaps and grabs onto Hulk's back. HULK GRUNTS as Half-Life's energy glows over his hands and Hulk's face. HALF-LIFE (VAMPIRE) Yes!! Give that power over to me!! Hulk tries to shake Half-Life off of him, but he keeps his hold. Hulk punches his fist back at Half-Life's face again and again, but he dodges them with ease. HULK GRUNTS as the energy drain continues. (CONTINUED) 104. CONTINUED: (2) Hulk stumbles and collapses to one knee. Half-Life's vampire form changes into a green-skinned version of his vampire self. HALF-LIFE (VAMPIRE) So much power! You don't deserve it!! Your strength should be MINE!! WHAM!! A flagpole is thrown out and HITS Half-Life in the face. Half-Life is knocked off of the Hulk and lands back-first to the ground, hard. Half-Life GRUNTS as he sits up and Abomination walks over to him. Hulk tries to stand, but he stumbles and falls, weakened from the energy drain. ABOMINATION He's MINE, Tony! HALF-LIFE (VAMPIRE) I need the power more than you do! I need more than Samson -- more than the Hulk!! I need YOU!! Half-Life leaps at Abomination, but he dodges and turns to him. Half-Life leaps, grabs onto Abomination from behind, and starts to drain his energy instead. Half-Life grabs onto Abomination tighter and small spikes grow out from the back of his neck and his shoulders. HALF-LIFE You're a good friend, Blonsky...but face it. Ryker's got the better man now. Abomination grabs Half-Life's sleeved arm and squeezes it. He SNAPS his arm and HALF-LIFE SCREAMS in agony. Abomination throws Half-Life away like a rag doll and he hits the ground. Abomination grabs an abandoned taxi nearby, as Half-Life gets to his feet. Before he can react, Abomination throws the car and it strikes Half-Life. Half-Life is knocked down to one knee and Abomination grabs another car. He throws it at Half- Life, but he flips aside and dodges it. Instead, it hits the Hulk. Hulk is knocked back down and is pinned under the car. Half-Life leaps at Abomination but he dodges. Half-Life misses and goes over him instead. Half-Life turns around, as Abomination rips a traffic light out from the ground. He SLAMS it into Half-Life over and over, and each hit knocks him down. Half-Life dodges another swat and leaps at Abomination. He swats the light again like a baseball bat and SLAMS Half-Life away. Half-Life hits the ground, the spikes fading from his body. Abomination throws the traffic light (CONTINUED) 105. CONTINUED: aside, grabs onto a nearby taxi, and throws it at him. The taxi collides on top of Half-Life and pins him down to the road. Half-Life GRUNTS and he manages to pull the taxi off of him. As Half-Life moves the taxi off of him, his muscles have reverted to normal size as he has used up the strength he's absorbed. HALF-LIFE GRUNTS as he stands up, but Abomination kicks his chest and knocks him back down. Abomination approaches and Half-Life kicks his leg up at him. He squeezes Half Life's foot with his hands and BREAKS it. HALF-LIFE SCREAMS and Abomination throws him aside. He grabs a car and slams it on top of Half-Life, pinning him down. Half-Life tries to wriggle out from under the car, but can't. Abomination grabs a loosened spike from his back, rips it out, and aims it over Half-Life's face. ABOMINATION We know who's the better man, Tony. Let's see you drain THIS! HALF-LIFE SCREAMS as Abomination stabs the spike down. ANOTHER ANGLE - Hulk easily tosses the car off of him, and he gets up to his feet. He hears a sickening CRUNCHING noise and looks up. ANOTHER ANGLE - Half-Life is seen from behind, with the spike stabbed through his face and its tip sticks out of the back of his head. Green blood drips from his head. Abomination turns back to the Hulk and stands. ABOMINATION Where were we? EXT. JOSH'S VAN - NIGHT Josh drives the van down a lone stretch of road. JOSH The roads are closed ahead. We'll need to take a short cut to get to your base, General. Josh drives the van down the road and moves past a parked car. Josh GASPS and instantly hits the brakes. His van stops mere inches from a knocked-over Pizza Hut car, with its windows broken and the tires are burning. The sounds of the battle ahead catches their attention and Betty notices Hulk's fight in the distance. BETTY Bruce!! (CONTINUED) 106. EXT. CITY - NIGHT Hulk delivers a haymaker that knocks Abomination back. HULK ROARS and delivers an uppercut that knocks him back several steps. Hulk tries another punch, but Abomination delivers a left cross that knocks Hulk back several steps. Abomination lets loose a punch to Hulk's gut and then he delivers a punch to Hulk's face. Hulk stumbles back and Abomination delivers an uppercut that knocks Hulk off his feet. He lands on his back on the ground, and Abomination crouches beside him. He grabs Hulk's face with his hand and SLAMS his head into the ground, cracking it. With his left elbow, he STABS his spike into Hulk's abdomen. Hulk GRUNTS and tries to pull the spike out, but Abomination's right fist hits him in the face. He cuts deeper into Hulk's stomach and he GRUNTS with pain. ABOMINATION Ryker wants you captured alive. He wants to separate you, dissect you and make you a weapon. I don't see why. He stabs the spike in deeper and HULK ROARS with pain. ABOMINATION (CONT'D) He's got the better weapon right here. Abomination grabs Hulk by the throat with his right hand and squeezes. Hulk grabs his hand and tries to pull it off his throat. Abomination squeezes tighter and HULK GAGS as he's being choked. Down the road, Betty opens the back seat and steps out of the van. She looks at Hulk in concern. BETTY (yells) BRUCE!! Abomination looks up and notices Betty. Hulk turns his head to face her. HULK Betty? ABOMINATION Good. Now your girlfriend gets to watch you DIE!! Abomination STABS his right elbow's spike into Hulk's chest. HULK ROARS with pain. (CONTINUED) 107. CONTINUED: BETTY (screams) NOOOOOOOOOO!! Abomination stabs his spike further into Hulk's chest and he strangles Hulk with his right hand. Hulk flinches and the green shine in his pupils dims. Abomination stabs him in the side of his neck with his elbow's spike and Hulk GASPS for air. Hulk grabs his arm and struggles to pull the spike out. ABOMINATION You stopped me once, but not this time! First I get to kill you...and then her! WHAM! Abomination punches Hulk in the face. Another punch hits the Hulk right into his gut and green blood oozes out. Hulk ROARS from the pain. Abomination launches another punch that knocks him down. BETTY (screams) Stop it! Stop!! Abomination LAUGHS. He doesn't notice, or care. He punches Hulk's face and his head indents into the ground. Abomination rams his elbow's spike into the Hulk's chest again and the Hulk doesn't move. Betty charges and pulls in vain to move Abomination's arm back. BETTY Stop it!! Get away from him!! Betty pulls at his arm and a loosened spike falls off his arm. Abomination looks at Betty and smiles. ABOMINATION Oh, please. WHAM!! He slaps Betty's face and sends her flying backwards. Betty collapses to the ground, dazed. ROSS (screams) No!! Abomination LAUGHS and walks over to her. ABOMINATION You really do care about him, don't you? (CONTINUED) 108. CONTINUED: (2) ROSS Betty!! Look out!! Get away from him!! The Hulk stirs. He's weak and hurt, but he manages to open his eyes. Hulk notices Abomination standing over Betty. ABOMINATION Don't worry. I'll finish you off quick. Abomination lifts his foot up to stomp on Betty. He stomps his foot down, but Betty rolls aside in time. Abomination GROWLS and kicks Betty's stomach, knocking her over onto her back. Betty GRUNTS from the kick and Abomination crouches down to her. He grabs Betty by her throat. The Hulk quietly growls, getting angry. His pupils glow bright green and his wounds begin to heal, slowly but surely. ABOMINATION With no Hulk in my way, everyone is going to pay for what they did to me... starting with you. BLAM! A bullet hits the back of Abomination's head, and breaks as it hits him. Abomination turns around to see Ross, out of the van, and holding a gun. Abomination smiles at him. ABOMINATION How cute! You're not going to stop me that way! That bullet's not strong enough to stop me! Hulk holds onto Abomination's right wrist and grabs him tightly. ABOMINATION What the -- WHAM! Hulk's fist pounds into his face. Abomination reels back from the punch, but Hulk pulls him close by his wrist and launches another punch. HULK Hulk strong enough!! He's getting p*ssed off...fast. Hulk's eyes burn bright green. His grip on Abomination's wrist tightens and Abomination flinches. (CONTINUED) 109. CONTINUED: (3) HULK Hulk...is strongest one... (screams angrily) ...THERE IS!! The green in Hulk's pupils burns brightly. He squeezes harder and BREAKS Abomination's wrist. Abomination SCREAMS with pain and Hulk tosses him aside, away from Betty. Betty crawls back and out of the way from the fight with her hands and knees. She gets to a sidewalk, sits against a building wall and watches the rematch fight in progress. Abomination launches a punch across Hulk's jaw that knocks him back. He follows up with a punch to Hulk's gut, a kick to Hulk's ribs, and he lets loose a haymaker that sends Hulk reeling back. Hulk quickly recovers from the blows and Abomination punches at him again. Hulk blocks the punch and delivers a backhanded hit across Abomination's face. Abomination stumbles back, and the Hulk leaps at him. The Hulk tackles the Abomination and knocks him down to the ground. Hulk punches Abomination across the jaw again, and then again. Abomination tries to get up and punches Hulk across the jaw. Hulk isn't fazed, and he resumes punching. The Hulk punches Abomination across the jaw, and then he does so again and again. Abomination kicks at the Hulk. The kick knocks him back a few steps, and the Abomination sits up. He tries to stand, but Hulk recovers and ROARS as he delivers an uppercut that knocks Abomination back down. Hulk puts one knee to his stomach, pinning him down. Hulk delivers a left jab to Abomination's face, and then a right hook. A left hook. Hulk pounds both fists into Abomination's face and BREAKS his nose. Abomination punches at the Hulk, but he blocks it and delivers a right haymaker that knocks him down. Abomination tries to stab his left elbow's spike at Hulk, but he catches the spike and RIPS IT OUT. Abomination grimaces and Hulk STABS it down into Abomination's side. ABOMINATON ROARS with pain and Hulk knocks him down with a punch to the jaw. Ross, Josh and Zack stare ahead at the battle in shock. Abomination is hit across the jaw with a haymaker and then Hulk delivers a punch to his chest. HULK ROARS and delivers another haymaker that knocks out two of Abomination's teeth. Hulk angrily lifts his fists up. (CONTINUED) 110. CONTINUED: (4) HULK Hulk... (yells angrily) ...SMASH!!! CRUNCH!! Hulk delivers a GROUND SMASH attack that hits Abomination on the head. He hits the ground, barely conscious. Hulk doesn't notice, or care. He lets loose another Ground Smash double punch. This knocks out another of Abomination's spikes and it stabs into the ground, with its jagged edge pointing up. HULK Smash!! (punches again) SMASH!! He lets loose punch after punch to Abomination's face. Hulk punches harder -- and then harder -- and his next punch makes Abomination's head CRACK into the ground, making an imprint. Betty runs over to them. BETTY Bruce!! NO!! DON'T!! Hulk doesn't notice. He ROARS with rage and lets loose another haymaker. And then another haymaker. And then another. And another. Hulk punches Abomination across the jaw and the villain's face is a bruised, bloody mess. Hulk grabs Abomination's throat and gives an angry ROAR as he rears his right fist back to strike. BETTY BRUCE!! STOP IT! PLEASE! STOP!! Hulk stops and turns his head. The green glow in his pupils dims as he calms down and stares at Betty. Betty stands next to the Hulk. She holds his hand. BETTY It's okay. It's over. It's over now. (a beat) He can't hurt us anymore. A beat. Hulk looks back down at Abomination. He lets out a low GROWL and delivers a punch that knocks the villain's head aside. Hulk gets up and nearly falls over. His own injuries, while healed considerably, continue bleeding. Betty holds his hand with her own. BETTY Come on. Let's go. We need to go now. (CONTINUED) 111. CONTINUED: (5) Hulk gets up and starts to walk off with Betty. They move over to Ross's van. Ross looks out from the van and eyes Hulk and Betty. Abomination groggily gets up and GROWLS as his injuries slowly start to heal. ROSS (shouts) Behind you!! Hulk and Betty turn around to see Abomination on his feet. Hulk pushes Betty aside gently, out of harm's way, and Hulk is quickly met with a punch to the face by Abomination. Hulk stumbles back, wounded. The Abomination kicks him aside and delivers another punch that nearly knocks Hulk down. ABOMINATION (groaning) I'm not -- done with you -- YET!! WHAM!! Another punch knocks blood out of Hulk's nose and from his jaw. Abomination punches again, but Hulk blocks it and punches Abomination across the jaw. He punches Abomination's gut and tries another punch to his jaw. Abomination punches first and hits Hulk across the jaw. He head-butts Hulk's face and he staggers back, wounded. Abomination punches him on the jaw and kicks him in the gut. The kick pushes Hulk back and he nearly falls over. Abomination LAUGHS and makes his hands into fists. ABOMINATION What were you saying about being the *strongest* one there is? Hulk GROWLS and his eyes glow brighter. Abomination charges at Hulk and he punches him across the jaw. Hulk recovers and blocks Abomination's next punch. The Hulk launches a punch to his ribs, knees Abomination on the gut, and then he punches him in the face. The Abomination reels back and Hulk lifts his arms up to punch again. HULK Leave -- Hulk -- ALONE!! SMASH!! Hulk lets loose a Ground Smash with his fists that cracks the floor. Hulk collapses to his knees, wounded, and the cracked floor makes Abomination wobble off-balance. He falls back and is headed right for the broken-off spike impaled in the ground. Abomination falls down and -- (CONTINUED) 112. CONTINUED: (6) Betty turns her head aside and shuts her eyes. She hears a sickening CHUCK! Abomination lies on the ground, unconscious, with the spike dug into the back of his neck. He doesn't move, barely breathes... The Hulk gets up and his legs wobble as he stands. His wounds are slowly healing again, but he is weak from the fight. Betty walks over and holds his hand. BETTY It's okay. Hulk looks back at Abomination as he lets go of Betty's hand. He GROWLS and makes his hands into fists. Hulk crouches to pick up Abomination, but is met with gunfire. Hulk GRUNTS and staggers back. He shields Betty from the gunfire, as three Troopers in a nearby Army jeep fire at him with their guns. TROOPER 1 Freeze, Banner!! You are under arrest, by order of General John Ryker! Follow us back to base or we'll open -- WHAM!! The TROOPER SCREAM as the jeep is hit from behind. Samson walks up from behind the jeep and he tosses the Troopers aside like rag dolls. The Troopers hit the ground, one by one, and land unconscious. Samson walks towards to Betty and Hulk and smiles. BETTY Leonard! SAMSON I got here as quick as I could, but I had a little problem with Ryker's men back at the lab. JOSH (shouts) Dr. Ross!! Come on in!! We need to get to the base to help your father!! ROSS (shouts) Betty!! Take Blonsky with us!! We don't want Ryker to find him and pick him up!! Samson walks over and he grabs onto Abomination. (CONTINUED) 113. CONTINUED: (7) SAMSON I'll take him. Go on. BETTY All right. (looks at Hulk) Come on. Follow me. Please. Hulk nods and follows Betty to the van. He walks off with Betty to the van, worn out and hurt. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - CLINIC - NIGHT Ross sits on a bed, with his shirt removed and his shoulder bandaged. He stares at the TV screen, as footage of the Hulk/Abomination duel on the city's streets plays on. REPORTER (O. S.) There's no word on where these green monsters came from, or where they have gone to now. We have at least sixty-two people confirmed dead from the attacks, and one hundred and five are injured. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - MAIN LAB - NIGHT Bruce sits on a chair, normal again and shirtless. Bruce stares at the screen sadly. Security camera footage of the Hulk/Abomination duel in the office building plays on the screen. REPORTER (O. S.) Thirty-eight of those injured have been confirmed to be in critical condition. This is the second confirmed battle between the two individuals since the infamous duel in the streets of Harlem in New York. The governor has issued an -- The TV screen turns off, but Bruce doesn't turn around. Betty stands nearby. She is holding the remote control, as well as a new shirt. She walks into the room and hands over the shirt to Bruce. BETTY Here. You must be cold. Bruce sadly stares at the TV. A beat. He lowers his head and closes his eyes. Betty walks over and she crouches before Bruce. (CONTINUED) 114. CONTINUED: BETTY Bruce...I can't imagine what you must be feeling right now. If there's anything I can do to help... BRUCE (interrupts) You've already done so much for me already, Betty. You quit your job, you moved here, you changed your name, you became a fugitive...all for me. You helped me come so far to get my hands on a cure. And now... (a beat) Now, I... I don't know what to do anymore. I'm tired, Betty. I'm so tired of all of this. Of running, of hurting people, of ruining everyone's lives... (a beat) Betty...I've made a decision. I've decided to contact SHIELD. I'm turning myself in. BETTY No! BRUCE Your father's been trying to get me for years. If I talk to Fury, he can lock me up. Somewhere underground, somewhere safe. BETTY No!! BRUCE It's the only way, Betty. Betty takes Bruce's face in her hands and lifts his head up to face her. BETTY You might be willing to give up on your cure, but I am NOT giving up on you!! You can't do this to me! Not now!! BRUCE Don't you get it, Betty? I'm doing this FOR you. You can't be with someone who hurts innocent people, causes so much damage... so much pain. This has to stop. (CONTINUED) 115. CONTINUED: (2) BETTY If you do this, you'll be giving up your life! You'll be giving up on US! BRUCE I've never given up on you. But I have let you down. More than you know. BETTY What are you talking about? A beat. He doesn't answer. She grabs Bruce by his arms and shakes him a bit, but he doesn't react. BETTY What did you -- A THUDDING sound rings out. Betty looks around the room. Bruce looks down and his eyes widen. Betty looks at the ground and at the small black box on the floor. Betty bends down to it. BRUCE Betty, leave it! (sadly) Betty, please!! I'm begging you -- Betty looks puzzled as she opens the box. A beat. Tears well up in her eyes. BETTY'S POV - In the box is an engagement ring, with a fairly-large, heart-shaped red diamond in its center. Bruce turns his head away and closes his eyes in anguish. He's trying not to cry. Tears roll down Betty's cheeks as she stares at the ring. A beat. She looks up at Bruce and slowly stands up. BETTY (whispers) Bruce? A beat. Bruce lowers his head. BRUCE I...I was so close, Betty. I had the cure in my hands...in my veins. I... I thought when I was cured, we might be able to be to... He stops talking. Tears roll down his cheeks. Betty crouches before Bruce. She holds his hand. (CONTINUED) 116. CONTINUED: (3) BETTY We still can. Bruce opens his eyes, stunned. He looks at Betty. BRUCE No. No, don't. Don't, please... BETTY But I love you. BRUCE I'd be too much of a risk. It'd never work out if we -- She puts her hand on Bruce's cheek. He stops. BETTY We'd make it work. A beat. Bruce eyes her sadly. She sadly smiles and blinks out tears. BETTY (whispers) My answer's yes. A beat. Tears roll down Bruce's face. BETTY Marry me, Bruce. A beat. Bruce looks at the ring, and then at Betty. Bruce holds her hand...and nods. Betty smiles and they kiss. They stand up and continue kissing. Betty ends the kiss and wraps her arms around Bruce. He sets his hands on her sides gently. BETTY I love you, Bruce. I'll always love you. Bruce closes his eyes. He sighs and tears roll down his face. BRUCE (whispers) I love you, too. There is a knock on the door. Betty and Bruce turn around as the door opens. Samson steps into the room and gives them a concerned look. (CONTINUED) 117. CONTINUED: (4) SAMSON What's wrong? BETTY Nothing. (sniffles) We're fine... How's my father? SAMSON He's fine. He's resting in the clinic. Major Sparr drove the Lamberts back home. BRUCE And Blonsky? SAMSON Taken care of. Now would you guys mind telling me what's going on? Betty smiles. INT. MAIN LAB - LATE NIGHT Zack and Josh walk into the ruins of the main lab. Several Soldiers walk with them, along with Major Kat Sparr. ZACK It's all ruined. SPARR But repairable. Trust me, it could have been a lot worse. ZACK I'm just glad nobody was hurt. JOSH So what do we say happened in here? SPARR We've taken care of that matter. We've already informed your employees here that the damage was caused by an overload to the Gamma Transponder during a test trial. Nobody was hurt, but the explosion caused significant damage. JOSH And what about Dr. Banner and Dr. Ross? What do we say about them? (CONTINUED) 118. CONTINUED: SPARR The truth. That Dr. Bixby and Dr. Feige don't work for you anymore. All of their files have been deleted from record and their work has been confiscated. JOSH You can't do that. Their work is the legal property of the Lambert Institute. It's ours. SPARR No, it's not. It's property of the U.S. Army now. It's not your problem. A SOLDIER suddenly enters the room and holds up a computer disk. SOLDIER Major Sparr! The files are gone! Someone took them out of the computers before we got here! SPARR What?!? (turns to Josh) Where are the Bixby and Feige files now? Who took them? Josh smiles and folds his arms over his chest. JOSH But Major, don't you remember? Dr. Bixby and Dr. Feige don't work here anymore. It's not our problem. Sparr sneers and turns to the Soldier. SPARR Keep searching. Do everything you can to find those files. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - HALL - LATE NIGHT Samson walks into the hall and holds up his cell phone. He dials 6-0-8, and puts his phone to his ear. SAMSON It's me. I need your help with a private matter. It's in regards to Dr. Banner. (CONTINUED) 119. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - CONTROL ROOM - NIGHT David and Ferrigno stand in the room, with several other soldiers. Both are wearing headsets. FERRIGNO We've got re-enforcements around the compound, sir. Protection here isn't a problem. TURNER (O. S.) (on headset) And Ryker? DAVID We got word from our men at the army base, General Turner. The base had already been abandoned and emptied. TURNER (O. S.) (on headset) Any idea where they were headed, David? DAVID Negative, sir. We can't find any trace of Ryker or his men. TURNER (O. S.) (on headset) I'll get some help for that assignment. FERRIGNO What do we do now, sir? TURNER (O. S.) (on headset) Take a breather, Ferrigno. You've both earned it. INT. PRISON CENTER - NIGHT Turner stands outside the enormous metal door of a large metal prison cell, with a few visible air vents in it. TURNER I've got my own assignment to finish. Turner out. Turner looks into the small window of the cell door. Abomination is seated on the metal bench of the cell, with his neck, forearms, ribs and chest bandaged. (CONTINUED) 120. CONTINUED: TURNER Don't bother trying to punch out. Not even you can make a dent in it. Thanks to our special alloy. (smiles) "Adam-something", right? INT. ABOMINATION'S METAL JAIL CELL - NIGHT The walls and doors have pointed metal spikes. The wounded Abomination GROWLS angrily at Turner. ABOMINATION Where am I? TURNER Your new room...for the next ten million years. (smiles) Welcome to the Vault. Turner closes the small door of the cell door. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - HALL - DAY Ross, in a new shirt, walks down the hall. His arm is in a sling. David walks down the hall and stops as he notices Ross approaching him. DAVID Sir! You should be in bed! ROSS At ease, David. I'm fine. I'm just going to see if my daughter wants to join me for breakfast. DAVID Your daughter? (a beat) You mean...he didn't tell you? Ross frowns in realization. INT. MILITARY COMPOUND - MAIN LAB - DAY Samson sits at a table, reading over a journal. The door swings open and Ross enters the room. ROSS Where is she, Leonard? Where did Betty go? (CONTINUED) 121. CONTINUED: Samson looks up and shakes his head. SAMSON She didn't say. She thought it'd be better if I didn't know. ROSS Better? What do you mean? (a beat) Oh, God. Don't tell me... A beat. Samson grabs a letter, folded in half, from the table and he hands it over to Ross. SAMSON She wanted me to make sure you read this. Ross looks at the letter. He takes it with his right hand and looks at what's written on one side -- DAD. Ross unfolds the letter and silently reads over it. EXT. HILLTOP - DAY Bruce stands on the hill in a black tuxedo. Betty stands before him in a white strapless gown. The bandages are gone and her healed wounds are now gone. Only nine people are present on a bench of onlookers, as a MINISTER stands before Bruce and Betty. The faces of the guests are not seen. MINISTER Do you, Betty, take Bruce to be your lawfully wedded husband? In sickness, and in health? To have and to hold? Until death do you part? BETTY (smiles) I do. MINISTER Do you, Bruce, take Betty to be your lawfully wedded wife? In sickness, and in health? To have and to hold? Until death do you part? A beat. Bruce stares at her sadly. The GUESTS MURMUR in concern. A beat. Bruce nods. BRUCE I do. (CONTINUED) 122. CONTINUED: The wedding GUESTS are now seen -- NICK FURY, TONY STARK, JANET VAN DYNE, HENRY PYM, DONALD BLAKE, STEVE ROGERS, DOC SAMSON, JENNIFER WALTERS and STANLEY. NICK (sighs) D*mn it, Banner! Don't scare us like that, man! Bruce looks at Nick and bites his lip to keep back a laugh. BRUCE Sorry. Janet SNIFFLES and wipes a tear from her eye. Henry hands her a tissue. Stanley smiles at the two on the hilltop. STANLEY Never thought I'd see the day. MINISTER If anyone here has any reason why these two should not be married, speak now... or forever hold your peace. Fury frowns. He stands up and looks around the hill. He looks at the hundred-plus armed SHIELD SOLDIERS around the hilltop. Fury smirks and shakes his head. FURY I didn't think so. Fury turns and sits down on the bench, sitting back between Steve and Tony. MINISTER Then by the power vested in me, by the state of New York... FURY (interrupts) And the protection of SHIELD. MINISTER (clears throat) I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride. Betty smiles and Bruce wraps her arms around her. The two kiss and Betty quickly puts her arms around him. (CONTINUED) 123. CONTINUED: (2) The guests clap and applaud the married couple. JANET To the new Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Banner! Bruce and Betty don't notice. They're still kissing. The applause slows down and stops. Stark raises his eyebrows and smiles, impressed. Henry scoffs at them. HENRY Hey, get a room, you two! The two stop kissing and they turn to the guests. Bruce smiles at them and Betty GIGGLES. The guests stand and walk over to Bruce and Betty. Fury kisses Betty's cheek and then holds her hands. FURY Congratulations, you two. BETTY Thank you, Nick...for everything. Stark shakes Bruce's hand and smirks. STARK H*ll of a lip-lock, Banner. I'm very impressed. BRUCE CHUCKLES. Steve shakes Bruce's hand. STEVE Congratulations, Bruce. I'm glad to see you two finally got back together. BRUCE Thank you, sir. And this time, we're staying together...forever. Stark rolls his eyes and steps aside to Betty. STARK One cornball line later, that newfound respect goes right out of the window. (hugs Betty) Congratulations, Betty. BETTY Thank you, Tony. Stark smiles. Bruce looks left and right. He sees only trees nearby. BRUCE Where'd my best man go? Stepping up onto the hilltop, holding a video camera, is a handsome mid-20s man with brown hair -- RICHARD "RICK" JONES. Rick is wearing a tuxedo. He smiles at Bruce as he films them with the camera, as the COOK wheels out the tall wedding cake on a cart. RICK Hey, I'd never bail on you guys, Doc. I was just getting the cake wheeled out for the celebration. BETTY Thank you, Rick. For everything. RICK Hey, I'm just glad to be invited. I'll make copies of this for you. BRUCE And General Ross. Betty looks at Bruce, stunned. He looks at her and smiles. BRUCE I'm sure he'd love a copy, too. SAMSON Yeah. Right before he has a heart attack. Betty smirks. She leans to Bruce and they kiss. Henry grimaces. HENRY Guys. Seriously. I'm getting nauseated over here. (CONTINUED) 125. EXT. SIDEWALK - NEW YORK CITY - AFTERNOON Betty and Bruce sit in the back of a taxi cab. Fury stands next to them and looks in the open window, wearing a headset. FURY Where are you guys going? BRUCE That's a good question. Betty leans to Fury. She kisses him on the cheek. BETTY Thank you, Nick. FURY You two take care. Goodbye. BETTY Goodbye. Betty sits back in her seat and she rolls the window up. The taxi cab takes off and drives away. Fury watches the cab drive off. SOLDIER (O. S.) (on headset) Do we follow them, sir? FURY No. Stand down. Let them have their time. Besides, I have a feeling we'll be seeing them again before long. INT. RYKER'S VAN - AFTERNOON A DRIVER drives the van down a deserted road. Ryker sits in the passenger seat. DRIVER What now, sir? Where do we go? RYKER Head north, soldier.
