JHBLADER05 said: Seriously, a vast improvement over the last film, and one of the better comic book films, yet audiences didnt care enough to see it, and the film has totally flopped. Why do people not like the Hulk, and what do you think will happen to the angry green man now??
1. There was just a crappy Hulk movie a few years ago. People associate this film with that franchise. Look at how meager Batman Begins' box office draw was, despite being a vast improvement over the Schumaker films.
2. Hulk has never been a super popular character. Yes, his face has been plastered on lunchboxes and bookbags for decades, but the comic has never been a top 10 book for more than 4 consecutive months...ever. Maybe it's the fact that the comic has always centered moe on the angst of Banner than the ass-kickery of the Hulk. Either way, the Hulk doesn't have the sort of fan base as the X-Men or Spiderman or even the Avengers.
3. The Hulk is more of a monster movie than a super hero movie. People looking for super heroes saving the world would turn to Iron Man and Batman this summer.
4. Was it a flop?
The film's budget was what, $150 million plus an additional $40million for advertising? So far it's made $115.5 million in the US and $64 million outside the US. You figure those numbers will go to $150 mil US and $100 mil internationally. That would be a profit even before they go to DVD, sell to cable and then sell to tv. But more importantly, it acheives an important strategic goal. It showed the world that the Hulk, as a character, doesn't suck. This is important for when they do Avengers. If they tout this as the greatest team of super heroes in film history (JLA, where are you?), they need to get people to buy into the idea that Iron Man and Hulk are just as great as some of DC's legendary heroes. Mission accomplished. Now they just need to do that with Thor and Cap. February 3, 1959

I thought the acting was much better for the most part in the first Hulk. Thunderbolt Ross was much better played by Sam Elliot than William Hurt who just looked drunk all the time. And I think Jennifer Connolly was far superior and more attractive than Liv Tyler. Ed Norton's tricky cos he's my favourite actor but I think both Bruce's were equally good.
Even if the new film is better than the old one its not by the large margin everyones saying it is. Both films are flawed.
He's not crazy for liking the first Hulk more. What's crazy is saying the first was monumentally better than the new one. That's crazy. I mean lead paint-eating crazy.
I'll admit, I liked both........but come on........I mean.........COME ON! There's the Hulk, which was a good FILM, not really a good Hulk film, but a good film. Then there's Incredible Hulk, which is like the ultimate mash up of the comics and the tv series. Incredible Hulk far exceded my expectations.
And yes we will continue to blame Ang Lee's film for the new one regardless of whether we liked it or not, because it's the simple truth. A good portion may very well be that people just aren't interested, but I know most of my friends refused to see this movie because of the original. The original had a very misleading trailer that made you think it was going to be some summer blockbuster when it was much more thoughtful, so most people assumed the same was gonna happen here.
I damn near literally had to drag them kicking and screaming into the theater, and of course when they came out they were glad I forced them cause the loved it. Face it people, whether you liked Ang Lee's film or not, and I did, it did greatly hurt the Hulk franchise. "At last, we shall have our revenge". Darth Maul

I'll have to agree to disagree with you on that one, LoopsMahBibby. I love Liv Tyler. I think she's a great actress, she did an excellent job in this Hulk movie, and she and Edward Norton had GREAT chemistry. I loved the relationship between Norton and Tyler than I did, and do, with Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly.
However, if nothing else, we can ALL admit the Tyler/Norton chemistry is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the Kate Bosworth/Brandon Routh chemistry from "Superman Returns".
Also, this isn't a flop, per se. It's made $118 million so far, it's made $201 million worldwide to date, and it's holding up much better in terms of box-office gross, if I recall correctly, than "Hulk" did at the U.S. Besides, it's also gotten a lot of positive reviews by fans AND critics and many fans agree it's a much better film than the 2003 film.
The only reasons I can think of as to why it hasn't made more money are because...
- COMPETITION: Granted, I'm surprised "Kung Fu Panda" is making more money than this wonderful film, but "Hulk" has to compete with "Wall-E", "Hanc*ck", and "The Dark Knight". "Iron Man" came out earlier, made more money, and never had that kind of competition until "Indiana Jones" came along.
- FANBOY FEARS. Unlike "Iron Man", we HAD seen a "Hulk" film before... and most thought it really, REALLY sucked. I didn't, though. But this film is better. Unfortunately, not everyone knows this is actually a relaunch instead of a sequel, and like how people saw "Batman Begins" five years after "Batman and Robin", there's still a bitter taste in the mouths of audience members that's keeping it from doing more than the studio would've wanted "Hulk" to be.
- $ FOR OTHER THINGS. Really, if you cough up $8 to pay for either two gallons of gas at the gas station or for two gallons of milk at the grocery store, how much do you have left over for $8 for a daytime movie ticket? Everyone's being really careful with money right now and it's very easy to get broke real quick.
Besides, it hasn't even been out for a month in theaters yet! Let's wait until DVD sales to see how sales do and whether or not it's a hit or miss.
