200919417-terminator-open
s-big-internationally

Terminator Salvation has opened to huge numbers internationally, with the Sony release declared the third biggest opener of the year (just slightly behind X-Men Origins : Wolverine and Angels and Demons).

Here in Australia for instance, the McG-directed sequel opened at number one and made a pleasing $5.2 million across 386 screens. The leading market though was the U.K., where the actioner grossed $11.6 million from 900 locations.

The distributor noted that Salvation is running 21% ahead of Terminator 3 : Rise of the Machines for the same territories at the same point in their release. That flick, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in a role that lasts for more than 30 seconds, generated a sumly $283 million internationally.

Considering the lack of promotion for this latest Terminator downunder aside from the odd TV spot there were next to no interviews with the cast; even star Sam Worthington, an Australian, was too busy shooting his latest film Clash of the Titans to do more than two or three interviews its quite an accomplishment. Seems the brand name did all selling, and the negative reviews havent hurt it (just as they didnt hurt Wolverine, which is now the highest-grossing X-Men movie ever in Australia) one bit.

Meanwhile rumours have surfaced at BleedingCool that "Terminator 5" may be set in modern-day London. Apparently John Connor (Christian Bale) hops a time-traveling electro-bubble to Big Ben for some reason or another.

I am glad it's makeing it money back but the whole john connor going back in time to london thing just sounds stupid.
We are finally at the war and they want to go back a step?!?

It's not impossible to make another future war terminator film, all they have to do is cut back on the action a bit and focus on dialog and the hard life style of living underground eating rats and stuff.

Formally known as BlOoD-MaN, but i somehow lost my password and couldn't get it back after i wiped my computer.

Just say no to time travel back to London. If they to a T5, they need to make significant progress towards the end of the war. Preferably, they'd leave us on a big cliffhanger at the end with both victory and defeat within sight, setting up a T6 as the finish to the franchise. Honestly, I don't think T:S was nearly as bad as it was made out to be. I think the biggest problem was that it was PG-13 instead of R like the first 3. If McG & the studio will return T5 to R, I think the rest will work itself out.

"Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." - Sir Winston Churchill, October 1941

i loved T:S. and it kills me seeing all the bad reviews. i think the cliffhanger idea is good. i also thought the pg13 rating was not gonna be good but i think it was still good without it. kinda like dark knight. but yeah they should either return to R for 5 or even wait until 6 for the finally of the series.

I don't think it will green light a sequel, or if it does the budget will be significantly decreased. According to Wikipedia (that internet source that is never wrong) the budget was estimated to be 200 million, the total intake at the moment appears to be slightly over that mark which must be quite disappointing for the studios who probably saw this film as one of their tent poles.

IU can see what you are saying and agree, although I imagine the studio's will consider the current economic climate and it's impact on movie attendance. The only movie so far this year to break $400m is Angels and Demon's, and Wolverine, T4, Star Trek etc, may not quite manage to claw over that. Last summer, 10 movies (including the mummy 3) managed to top $400m worldwide.

The only certain money makers left are Transformers and Harry Potter, and possibly Avatar. A sequel may come when the box office picks up, or with a big chunk of the budget knocked off. Another Narnia movie is still moving ahead following the box office disappointment of Prince Caspian, and the movie industry was doing comparatively better than this year.
