I HATED Nemesis with a passion, and would love to see Trek rectify their stupidity. I know the latest rumor is it will be a prequel, but if Nemesis did fairly poorly in the theaters, (gee, I don't know, maybe because of the very depressing ending??), then why in the world do they think people are going to be all jazzed about people they don't even know?
I personally would LOVE to see Data return, there are a million different ways they can do this, and if the writers are any good this time around, they can do and make it somewhat fresh and exciting. I would suggest bringing in John de Lancie as Q, someone who I loved in the series and felt the absense of very keenly in the movies. I think it would be a great idea for Q to resurrect Data and then have Data somehow bring in whomever the franchise wants to continue the show, whether it be the 'Enterprise' crew or someone. Then Data can be returned to his own crew, and we can finally get the happy TNG ending we deserved the first time around. I mean, I'm sorry, but if Nemesis was truly the finale for the TNG crew, why in the world would they insult their fans so horribly like that when there was no reason. Even the original crew went out in mostly one piece, (not counting Generations.) I don't care if its insipid to have a sunset ending, I just think if they want to end it correctly, that's the way to do it.
So, I am cautiously looking for the 11th sequel, but I won't get too hyped about it unless I hear concrete proof they'll have someone in it I'll know. If its a prequel with all unfamiliar faces, and no Data, I could careless. Berman and co. will soon have no one to blame but themselves for killing Star Trek, a once thought to be immortal franchise.
