February 27, 2009 — Star Trek Producer/Director JJ Abrams said at a recent news conference that the new film is for future fans. "The studio wanted to give the film a fresh start, and I was originally brought in as a producer, but upon reading the script, I saw so much potential that the original failed to realize due to technological constraints, that I got very greedy and I decided to direct it myself."
