Call me a newb or whatever but I have a question that was actually brought up by my boyfriend after the movie.

Are Scotty and 17-yr old Chekov of any relation? Is Scotty Chekov from the future or are they entirely two separate people.

Scotty and Chekov are separate people. Scotty is the chief engineer and Chekov is the navigator, tactical officer of the Enterprise. They are both from the present time. The only ones from the future (which is Star Trek The Next Generation era) are Ambassador Spock and Nero. It sounds like you didn't follow pretty close attention to the movie.

The Star Trekker is correct of course, but I've gotta know. What was it that made you believe the two characters were related to one another?

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

So sorry I didn't drool over the film like you did Trekker.
& it's hard to pay attention to a movie with someone's oxygen pump making spitting and raspberry noises louder than the movie the whole time. That & I hadn't seen anything Star Trek related since I was NINE.

It was cancelled because the poor ratings and most people weren't interesting in it or thought it wasn't following the Star Trek canon and so on and it was on a very poor network that barely could keep its shows on the air and not every city had UPN and I only have UPN for 2 years and I didn't get it until 2004 which was pathetic. Now it's happening to the CW. Jim can give you the real reason why it was cancelled. I was so pissed off when they cancelled it because there was a story arc that I was hoping and really wanted to see in Season 5 and probably continue on until Season 7.
