wars

They're arguably the two biggest science-fiction franchises in the world: STAR TREK and STAR WARS. And if you're one of the many who watched STAR TREK this past weekend you may have noticed some similarities to that other STAR franchise. The young hero, the old mentor, the warp speed, bar fights, exploding planets... While I wouldn't say that JJ Abrams' STAR TREK is ripping off STAR WARS, it's just interesting to see how much modern sci-fi is inspired by STAR WARS. Check out the comparisons courtesy of College Humor below!

-Kirk goes to an Ice planet like Hoth and is attacked by a creature similar to a Wampa.

-The effects are done by George Lucas' company ILM.

....the list goes on.

Not surprised considering Abrams proclaimed himself as more of a Star Wars fan than a Star Trek fan. He said so himself that he was gonna take a few pointers from Star Wars. Which is why I want this guy out of Trek

"Hey George, got any tips on how to ruin a franchise?"

Well I think it's precisely the reason this movie was a success. This was the 1st Star Trek movie or TV show that was actually fun and exciting.

"Hey, George, you're a genius. Got any tips on how to revive a dead franchise?"

Hoth was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that scene. "Hmm this seems a little familar..."

Actually Star Wars ripped off Star Trek really. Star Wars has a bunch of Star Trek elements like proton torpedoes, starships, going faster than the speed of light, a planet destroyer, shields, Federation, etc. So it doesn't really matter. Star Trek and Star Wars are both great even if Star Trek is more inspirational though.

100% Star Trek and Superman fan.

Well, Gene Roddenberry definitely thought of it way before George Lucas did though. I know Gene Roddenberry took some ideas from other classic Sci-Fi films and novels and some from *cough*Doctor Who.

Star Trek:

Pre-Birth: November 27, 1964

Birth: September 8, 1966

Star Wars:

Birth: May 25, 1977

I am sure they each borrowed elements from eachother as well as other classic sources from the 50's. What's the big deal?

A lot of the time whilst watching Star Trek on TV you know the action is margined because of the budget and costs. A TV show will never be a movie, that is why movies are made to expand with the action they never got to do. This is why people feel let down by Star Trek movies because they don't have enough action and swagger going on, sometimes the TV series is better than the actual movies.

So why not inject some action at ever scene with the Movies, that is the point I feel Star Trek should have as a movie that out pace the TV series. Most people who watch the movie are fans anyway and there is no need to tiresom character development, its been done for the last 7 seasons already.

So if they make a Star Trek movie that is too mellow, its only going to put people off. The cinema is a big chance to advertise the Star Trek universe with bright technological ideas and stange new aliens and planets, but most of the time they travel to the past and give us the present which is another cop out at not giving inspirational futurist scenary.

At least with the new movie the past looked futuristic and Earth looked like it was from the future instead of some barn conversion.

Star Trek fans spend years in the futuristic setting on the TV series with its limited earthlike planets that they visit only for the movies to give us more Earthlike environments which tells us they lack budget along with Human like aliens.

So even if Star Trek does look a bit like Star Wars in the new film its because of the lazy imagination they fed new commers and fans alike in the last movies.

The Good thing about Star Wars is that hardly of the scenes resemble Earth in any way and Aliens look like Aliens.

Its about time Star Trek spashed some money and imagination out and pleased the cinema industry for once.

Oigh

Starwars by George Lucas follows tips from Flash Gordon and a Chinese movie for inspiration, along with Campbell books on mithology

And JJ abrahams has revive Star Trek from ashes, The movie is better than all the starwars prequels, both are diferent concepts, the things in common is that both happen in the space, thats all.
