TheRiddlerKid said: Overall, I think of my review would be negative based on a 'Star Trek' point of view. While I really enjoyed the movie while watching it, it felt more like a movie with 'Star Trek' characteristics rather than a 'Star Trek Movie. But that's for another post. I have a few minor complaints but one major complaint in particular really grinds my gears.;
Dr. McCoy snubbed in favor of Uhura.
There is absolutely no other character I could hate more now than Uhura. Was it really necessary for her to have a connected back story or to strip down in front of Kirk?
When I think of Star Trek, I think of the 'holy trinity' that is Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Karl Urban did an amazing job as McCoy, so why the amazingly short time on screen or being involved in the central plot?
The ad campaigns have only made it worse for me. Why is there such an emphasis on Uhura? A glass from burger king, action figures and one of four posters. What the heck is this?
Well so its an alternate time line, I hope that McCoy leaves the enterprise and creates a spin off film.
anyone got some other complaints or issues that are bugging them about the film?
I'm gonna have to agree here. Not entirely, but I do agree. I think there was a bit too much emphasis on her over McCoy, but at the same time, there wasn't as much emphasis as I THOUGHT there was going to be.
I also agree about Sabotage. I thought "If ANY music from my generation survives that many years into the future, I HIGHLY doubt it will be Sabotage." Read about how my dad kicked cancer's ASS!

| Personally, I thought Karl Urban stole the show, even in his somewhat limited screen time. I'd love to know how many hours of DeForest Kelley footage he watched prepping for his role. He had so many of DeForest's little mannerisms down, it was a little spooky. Uhura didn't bother me. I did think the new Chekov sucked, though. They need to recast that character. And hopefully it'll be someone with dark hair. Are you kidding me? I thought the guy playing Chekov freaking NAILED it. To me, and BatSTUD can back me up on me saying this, he was the most impressive in terms of nailing their character. Not even joking. The accent was a little thicker, but after the debacle he has in talking to the computer, I think it shows that Chekov will be working on his accent out of neccessity. So his accent being thicker is not a problem at all. As for hair, I'm over dealing with those issues.
I'll give you the accent. Including Chekov's "w" & "v" lisp/gag was funny. But other than that, I just didn't like him very much. He annoyed me. I thought Karl Urban as Bones was much more on point. I'll also grant that Chekov's problems could have been a product of the script. I'd give the guy one more chance just because of that, but that's it. However, I was disappointed Vulcan was destroyed, it's the most important planet of the Federation like Earth and they let Spock's mother die! I hope they restored Vulcan and Spock's mother in the sequel or a later film!
Why???
That completely defeats the point of the story of this prequel, meaning if there was a sequel and those things were retconned it would have made this film absolutely meaningless and may as well have never happened.
You do get that this was an alternate timeline to the original Star Trek right? They explained it really well, hence things WILL be different to the original
It totally erased everything I knew including TNG (my most favorite Star Trek series ever), DS9, and Voyager. I want the TNG era to exist in this alternate timeline too. Without Vulcan I just don't see how Picard or Data will exist. Sorry, I'm just more attached to TNG than I'm with TOS. TNG was the one got me into Star Trek in the first place besides my dad. I will be okay with this alternate timeline. It will take me a while to totally adjust.
Overall I loved the movie and I just saw it again for the third time.
Oh I loved Scotty's little alien buddy and sorry Jim, he does not remind me of a Ewok from Star Wars. Parts of the movie reminded me of Star Trek The Animated Series especially Scotty's little alien buddy and the other aliens I saw in the background. Oh I noticed the Tribble that Scotty had too.
100% Star Trek and Superman fan.

You know how in the original Star Trek, Kirk's father was never killed and he proudly saw Kirk become captain of the Enterprise?
Well in this alternate timeline, things changed and Kirk STILL ended up captain of the Enterprise, WITH the same crew, etc. etc. etc.
Do you really think the writers WON'T find a way to link in all the spin offs there've been over the years to Star Trek in this new timeline?
Of course they will, they'll be a little bit different (which really I'd find refreshing rather than watch the exact same thing I watched years ago) but they will happen.
Btw, "without Vulcan I don't see how Picard of Data will exist"
No offense Mike, but you would be an AWFUL writer.

| Upon further review, I don't like how weak they make Kirk look in a fistfight. Other than that, it was great. And Chekov is easier to stomach the second time. He might work out after all. Karl Urban still steals the show.
