Variety reports that Paramount Pictures' Star Trek earned an estimated $7 million on Thursday night from most of its 3,800 screens.

The studio opened Iron Man on a Thursday night in May of 2008. That film grossed north of $4 milion in Thursday evening/midnight screenings on its way to making $102.1 million for the weekend.

Last weekend, 20th Century Fox's X-Men Origisn: Wolverine grossed nearly $5 million in midnight runs, although "Wolverine" didn't start its run until 12:01 a.m. Friday.

This movie deserve it, paramount deserve it.

I will say that this is the kind of movie that is made by adults, to adults that like fiction, and the kids will like it too,it has a smart dialogue, interesting plop, good run time, and for the fans that complain about the changes relate to the vulcans, is well explained that this is a parallel star trek universe, alternative reality, and is probably the best they could do with this franchise.

For people that are not trekker like me, i enjoy it, the only complain is to see a couple of Aliens that belongs more to men in black, but that is minor thing.

4 out of 5 stars, or 8 out of 10, until now favorite summer movie, because is well done in all aspects, is not threaten the fans as stupids or looking for kids approval so pretext of "new audience", is not rushed or bad edited so it can have more showings,; Paramount respect the fans, respect the beloved characters and respect the franchise and like i said, it deserve to get a good Box office.

I was thinking, and I don't know if anyone has said this anything like this yet, but could this be the start of the shattered universe that has been seen in DS9?

That would be an interesting possibility, but I doubt it. The Klingons got their asses handed to them by Nero (47 warbirds lost I believe it was?) So if anything this would be a huge kick to the long feud between Romulans and Klingons. No Cardassia is mentioned and Star Fleet, however weakened, is still a powerful force with a brand new flagship so I dont see the 'Terrans' being in any sort of danger.
