If you say that there is nothing wrong with the 'odd numbered' films of the Star Trek series, well then there are hundreds of critics and fans that just don't agree.

I knew of this 'odd numbered' thing hysteria for a while, but was never able to take it literally. One of my favorite Star Trek films was The Final Frontier. I really enjoyed the character interactions and philosophical aspect to Syboks appearance among the crew. but 4.9 our of 10?? (imdb) really?

I can understand insurrection, it was just an over budgeted episode of the series, but what I didn't get was the First Contact film. It was an fine movie, but I didn't think it was better than Generations.

What was the issue with Generations? It was a fine end to a great captain, it was the passing of the Enterprise torch so to speak.

Anyway its always been bugging me that these films are being jerked around the way they are.

Wrath of Khan is still the best and my personal favorite, so for the sake of this thread, I'm just going to void it....

The only odd numbered movie I think that is just as good as the even ones is The Search for Spock. Everything else is either mediocre or worse.

My rankings:

II
VI
III
IV
VIII
I
V
XI
VII
X

This has always been an unfounded myth in my opinion.

I love ALL of TOS crew movies (with the obvious exception of TMP).

Sure, Wrath of Kahn is amazing.

But so is watching Kirk and the crew rescue Spock from the clutches of Genesis and the Klingons at the expense of the Enterprise!

III still has one of the best endings of any of the movies.

And while The Final Frontier has it's problems, the campfire sequences and just the overall scenes with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are PRICELESS.

As far as TNG goes, I'm not gonna lie. Not a big fan of Generations and Insurrections was just all right.

But Nemesis was GREAT. I know it get's a bad wrap. But that's something I have NEVER agreed with.

I like most, if not damn near all the Star Trek movies.

I've been here since 2000 and have undergone six-seven personas, but I am still me...Tiffany, I love you.

Problems with ST:TMP-
1- Long boring visual effects scenes of the Enterprise slowly cruising through V'ger in order to show off how much work was put into the new FX.
2- The crew of the Enterprise all wearing pajamas except for Kirk.
3- No action. The Enterprise spends the vast majority of the film being led by the nose by V'ger. They don't DO much of anything.

Problems with Search for Spock:
1- Mostly predictable plot.
That's about it for SfS. It wasn't really all that bad of a film. It's biggest problem was following on the heels of Wrath of Khan. People were hoping for another movie just as good or better than Wrath of Khan, and they didn't get it.

Problems with Final Frontier:
1- A half-brother of Spock's comes out of nowhere after twenty years of nothing.
2- The entire crew of the Enterprise (aside from Kirk, Spock and McCoy) is suddenly so incredibly weak minded that they can all be brainwashed by a lone Vulcan.
3- Characters acting out of character. Uhura doing a fan dance on a sand dune? Scotty knocking himself unconscious by walking headlong into a beam? Everyone else becomeing shiny happy people holding hands on their way to the center of the galaxy. I don't think so.

Problems with Generations:
1- Captain Cameron (let my Cameron go). This is who we get as Captain of the Enterprise-B, Ferris Beuler's goofy sidekick?
2- Data's emotional angst. As if we didn't get enough of this sort of thing in the series. Now we get it in spades.
3- Kirk and Picard finally meet face to face. Two captains whose command styles are more different than night and day. What do we get out of this much anticipated meeting? Chopping wood, cooking eggs and horses. Disappointing doesn't begin to cover it.

Problems with Insurrection:
To be honest, I barely even remember this movie. I only saw it once when it first came out, and was so disgusted with it that I've never been tempted to give it a second viewing. All I can recall is Dr. Crusher and Counsellor Troy talking about their boobs, Worf with zits, and Geordi's eyes growing back.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
