Here's somebody's anonymous source that outline the movie: It's from an entertainment blog, so who knows if its acurate, fantasy, or guesswork... read at your own risk:

[SPOILER] The film opens with Spock (the original played by Leonard Nemoy) as an old man being pursued through space by the Romulan, Nero. Nero is unrelenting in his attack and Spock is doing all he can to survive. In his final chance to escape certain death, Spock uses a special black goo he has in his possession to create a worm hole in space. Nero quickly realizes what is happening and unwilling to give up his pursuit, begins a race towards the worm hole and we see both ships make it through. As the worm hole is an unnatural event, it causes a ripple in the universe and both Spock and Nero find themselves thrown into different place and a different time. We are told they are in the past, and it is hinted that this past may have been altered into a parallel universe.

Neros ship, the Noruda, exits the worm hole and while he does not see Spoks ship, he does see right in front of him what appears to be a Starfleet ship, but it isnt the Enterprise he knows. This ship is Captain James T. Kirks fathers shipKirk hasnt been born yet. Nero, not realizing that hes traveled time, immediately attacks the less powerful ship and Kirks father soon realizes that its going down. He radios his pregnant wife to beam off of the ship immediately but shes now in labor and cant risk losing her son mid-beam. Kirks father is successful in rescuing his family but not without being fatally wounded. He looks at his son for the first and last time.

After Neros victory, he is surrounded and captured by a fleet of Klingons.

Flash to a young Spock, half human, half Vulcan, being teased by other Vulcans because hes different. He soon learns from his father that he must choose to be either human or Vulcan but he cannot truly be both. Cut to Spock as a young man who is now completely a Vulcan with his serious tone and lack of emotions as he is on his way to Starfleet Academy.

The story cuts to an adult Kirk who has turned into a rebellious young man due to the death of his father. He is unsure of what he should do with his life until hes convinced by Captain Pike, a close friend of his fathers, to join the Starfleet Academy.

The Starfleet Academy is where the crew meets. We are introduced to each member of the crew in a fun and true to Star Trek manner, but each character storyline has an unfamiliar twist to it that the whole audience will enjoy.

Unlike the TV series/past movies, Spock and Kirk dont get along. In fact, they are rivals and Spock is trying to get Kirk thrown out of the Academy. As the Starship Enterprise is readying for its maiden voyage, crew members are announced: Spock, McCoy, Sulu, Checkov and Uhura- no Kirk. Captain Pike, not Kirk, is in charge of the Enterprise. However, McCoy develops a scheme to get Kirk onboard for her maiden voyage as a passenger, not a crew member.

The story returns to Nero who has endured years of prison and torture by the Klingons. The sentence has made him stronger and even more resilient. Suddenly, in the midst of Klingon questioning, Nero is rescued by the younger version of himself (he had sent his younger self in this parallel universe a message to rescue him). The young and old Nero escape in the Noruda in search of revenge i.e. original Spock.

Now, the two stories collide with Neros ship confronting the Enterprise. Neros ship is powerful and has caught the Enterprise off guard. In an effort to make peace with Nero, who is an unknown enemy to the Starfleet of this time period, Captain Pike boards the Noruda to open the dialogue. He is immediately captured and young Spock is made captain of the Enterprise. The tension between Spock and Kirk comes to a boiling point and Spock has Kirk thrown off of the ship. Kirk is beamed to a strange, unknown place and is suddenly approached by older Spock. Older Spock learns of how history has changed in this parallel universe that he and Kirk are not best friends and Kirk is not captain of the Enterprise. Older Spock concludes that because of his worm hole, the Enterprise crew has fallen off destinys course and it must be corrected. He convinces Kirk to get back on board the Enterprise and fix it. The two are guided to a local bar where they find a young Scotty who builds a device that beams Kirk back aboard the Enterprise.

Once on the Enterprise, Kirk is on a mission. He confronts Spock and they battle it out, somehow releasing the tensions between the two and uniting them as teammates. Spock then realizes that Kirk should be the captain of the Enterprise. This new united Enterprise crew now engages Nero in a tough battle and defeats him. The crews destiny has been corrected, albeit on an entirely new path.

Sounds like this was mostly a good summary, perhaps taken from the supplemental material that was published. The movie seems to have lost a lot of the nero backstory, which is why I guess they published it outside the film.
