| Kevin Smith Not Directing 'Fletch Won'! |

Not to ruin anyone's day or anything, but the bearer of bad news we must be : Kevin Smith has reportedly walked from the long-planned "Fletch Won" project.
Smith, who had been working on the film for a number of years (at one stage, envisioning it to be a straight-sequel to to the Chevy Chase films, with the funnyman himself starring), had hoped to cast Jason Lee ["Mallrats"] in the lead role.
"The movie is going to be made, and if all goes as planned should be in production in early '06. Second, and correctly, Kevin Smith is no longer affiliated with the Fletch film as writer or director", says David List, the film's producer, to IMDB and NewsAskew.
"His type of comedy just isn't 'Fletch'", List says of the vacating writer/director. "It's not that Kevin isn't talented or funny. It's just that his comedic style, ultimately, proved not translate well for "Fletch," at least as I and Harvey felt. Keep an open mind. There's lot's of very funny writers out there".
List says Smith's depature was amicable and that there should be an annoucement in the coming weeks to do with the film. [We're guessing it's a 'Zach Braff signs up for lead' like headline].
List doesn't comment much on any of those cast rumours though, saying "Zach is a very bright and fresh new talent. There's much more to him than "Scrubs" and "Garden State." That said...only time will tell who's right.. [it's] too early to tell. We don't have a script yet. We're meeting with a potential new writer in a couple of weeks, and if all goes well, we should have a new script a few months thereafter".
List says it's likely Chevy Chase will return for the new movie.
"I think it would be great", he says. "I think everyone will welcome his being a part of it".
