The always dependable Jason Lee - Kev, you need to give him a gig though; he's a hop, skip and a jump from direct to DVD - had a blab with About.Com about "Fletch Won", Kevin Smith's retool of the Chevy Chase comedy series, that the bearded one originally wanted Lee ["Almost Famous", "The Incredibles"] to star in - before the powes that be had him removed the frontrunners list.
I think a lot of the View Askew guys were rooting for Ryan Reynolds for a while, Lee said. I think theres a lot of hardcore View Askew fans out there that would like to see yours truly in the role, but you know, the powers that be, what can I say.
Lee's referring to Miramax, who say they want a bigger name in the movie - if it's to happen. Instead of Lee, they're thinking a Brad Pitt or Will Smith.
Did Lee's recent string of film flops hurt his chances though? "Is it the flops that did it? I don't think so because a lot of actors have flops but still make a lot of money and get opportunities. I just dont think Ive had, as they say, the big one that put me on the map or whatever term you want to use.I don't think I ever really got there in the first place, like on a Will Ferrell or Ben Affleck level. But Im sure the flops like A Guy Thing and Stealing Harvard, that doesnt help any". He adds, "Maybe Harvey [Weinstein] just doesnt like me. I try to stay out of the politics and the business side of thing and just take what comes my way. If they dont want me, Im not going to send roses to his office begging him to be in something.
Smith recently hinted that he's looking at Zach Braff, of "Scrubs" and "Garden State" fame, to be the new "Fletch".
