Despite attempt after attempt after attempt one more attempt for good measure? Richard Donner says his long-planned sequel to The Goonies is as dead as any fish in the Yarra.

I don't think so, the Lethal Weapon director tells IGN FilmForce. We tried really hard. Steven [Spielberg] and I, we pitched a couple of things to them and, quite honestly, they weren't right. And we put it aside. If I could ever find a really good handle on a screenplay for it, I'd go pitch it again, because talking about [something] I'd want to see It's extraordinary. But it's got to be right, or don't do it, because I couldn't believe that movie. It's done to generations of kids what it's done.

Still, he can dream.

Maybe one day Chris Columbus will write it for us and we'll get back to the old group.

Too bad. I still had mixed feelings whether a sequel could have been successful or not. Perhaps this is for the best.

In memory of our beloved Goonies, and the sequel that's just not meant to be, here's a truffle shuffle for ya.

Yea why would anyone be interested in a sequal after the 80's? They's just either be too old or replace the actors like they did with Home Alone...wow that worked
