July 20, 2001 — At least three Hollywood projects are in the works on the subject of Alexander
the
Great, reports AP.
The first is by "Usual Suspects" writer Christopher McQuarrie, who penned
the
script and will direct, Zap2it.com reports.
Producer Dino De Laurentiis's version is being written by "Silence of the
Lambs" scribe Ted Tally, based on Valerio Manfredi's trilogy of historical
novels, the entertainment website says.
Producer Gene Kirkwood, behind "Weird" Al Yankovic and "UHF," and
recently
who completed a remake of Orson Welles' "The Magnificent Ambersons" for the
AandE network, has his own "Alexander" project, Variety reports.
Kirkwood's will be on a smaller scale with a 15-million-dollar budget,
funded
by Greek investors.
"This was a kid in his early 20s who loved his sex," Kirkwood told
Variety.
"The sensuality is the key and as for the battles, well, there was just one
big
fight in "Rocky," but it was memorable."
