The war in Iraq is certainly being fought over some of the same area that Alexander the Great did so many centuries ago.
His line of approach was different, but the northern Iraqi city of Irbil was caled Arbela in those days.
Here's an interesting article that looks at the history of the place, and the parallels are pretty startling. The question is, who will be Alexander this time, and who will be Darius III?
