Now there are two...Baz Luhrmann's, and Oliver Stones's

Oliver Stone's version has Colin Farrell as Alexander, and seems to be headed for an earlier release date.

Stone's version is reportedly beginning production in June 2003, while Luhrmann's version will probably still be in pre-production at this stage.

I am very interested to see if Stone's film does go ahead and start shooting as planned, as this will obviously cause some concern for Baz and co.

Is there really enough room for two Alexander films with similarly huge budgets? I guess we'll have to wait and see!

It will be interesting to see whether having Nicole Kidman will make it the bigger draw of the two, considering her work with Luhrmann on Moulin Rouge.

I certainly hope having Leonardo DiCaprio and Nicole Kidman on board will give Luhrmann's production an advantage.

However, Stone has now set a starting date of June 2003, which means he is set to begin filming BEFORE Luhrmann.

I fear this may cause some problems for Luhrmann's Alexander the Great, but we'll have to wait and see.

when i read the article about oliver stone's version of alexander the great, i first thought that he was directing it instead of baz.
anyways, i'm anticpating the two versions of the same tale. hopefully they both make it interesting...hehe

i'm just a little concerned that there are going to be two films about alexander the great seemingly so close that are going to be shooting in relatively small times between the two. i don't know what's going to happen to baz's version since most likely the public will see stone's version first.

well at least baz has leo and nicole. and if nicole gets nominated and wins this year for the hours...it give it more incentive to draw a greater audience...
i dunno that's just what i think

just my stupid wish...i wish ewan mcgregor was in it! but i guess he has borgia to worry about

It bring sup the question of which is more powerful...being the first out, or being the best product?

I can recall a situation like this, with Dangerous Liaisons. The more I saw the second film (Les Liaisons Dangereuses) the less I liked the blockbuster first film with all the big stars.

Well, Nicole has best actress, and will be the star power behind Baz's project, as will a recently revamped Leonardo. Combine that with a budget of 150m compared to Stones 80m, the support of the King of Morocco and his army, I think that Baz's version will be a million times better.

I mean colin farrel... as alexander?? as if!!

Colin Farrel is becoming more alarming. Another bad role model, from what we read. Sounds like a Robert Downey Jr. in the making.

The battle is still on between the two films. I just read that the budget for Luhrmann's is 160-million. Epic scale.

I LOVE Colin Farrell, and I think Oliver Stone's version is gonna be awesome. I mean, it's got Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins and Val Kilmer. Plus, Stone himself is a great director, so I CAN'T WAIT for this movie.

The more sucessful movie will be the one that best handles the scenes between Alexander and Hephaistion. We've seen plenty of spectaculars, so the only new area will be the Greek heroic love.
