| How excited (or not) I am to see this movie... |
|
How often is a classic film remade? Ocean's Eleven is, as we all know, a remake of the classic Rat Pack film by the same title.
Both versions were excellent, which is uncommon enough but, now that they're talking sequel...
Would you make a sequel to Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, The Road to Morocco or North By Northwest?
Too often sequels are made to capitalize off the initial and perpetual success of a film. Too often said sequels are painful to endure.
The simple fact of the matter is that a bad sequel can easily diminish the appeal of the original film- look at The Matrix Reloaded vs. The Matrix. It was horrible! And what was with that techno-classical track in the beginning of them film?! And am I going to be sitting here saying the same thing to myself next year when Ocean's Twelve finally hits the big screen?!
There's an aweful lot of explaining to do that I cannot see unless this film is going to be little more than fluff: if you scored for over $10 million, why would you risk it all? That's the first thing. The second issue being that most other possibilities are going to pale in comparison to the first score and the underlying scheme- which was not only difficult enough to buy, it also had several holes in it that the story failed to explain. Sequels are usually sloppier. What exactly can we expect? |
