September 2, 2003 — Could Around the World in 80 Days make Independant Film making history? The movie, which stars Jackie Chan, cost about $110 million to make.
"Private financing is common for independent films in the $1 million to $5 million range -- some 30 movies being screened at the Toronto International Film Festival next month were funded by investors outside the studio system and currently lack American distribution. But in terms of sheer scale, "80 Days" marks an unprecedented roll of the dice."
