Filming in Goerlitz

SUBMITTED BY LClem

June 27, 2003 — The filming work for the Jules Verne classic had begun on Monday in Goerlitz. With his great European costume, Jackie was seen filming a chasing scene on the street with paint all over him. Although Jackie was messy, he waved at the crowd good humouredly whenever he had some spare time! Since the crew were filming at an open area, Jackie had to ride on a bike and crisscross different scenery. He's even been asked about his biking technique! Last week was the first time Jackie and Arnold Schwarzenegger both , worked together on the same movie. Arnold's wife and his 4 children were on the set for a visit. Jackie said he appreciated Arnold's work very much and gave them his own t-shirts as gifts. Approximately 300 people in the film team are locally with the filming work. In addition are approximately 200 men in the building troop, which transformed the Untermarkt [a plaza] and several old parts of town roads temporarily into a small Paris. Besides in Goerlitz approximately 300 to 500 extras from the region are occasionally employed. "Around the World in 80 Days" uses approximately 114 million dollar. With a subsidy of 500,000 euro the Central German medium promotion (MDM) supported the project. 87 filming days are set for the film. The team has already filmined in Thailand and Berlin under director Franc Coraci. Presumably the action comedy will come into the German cinemas in 2004. Date: 26/06/2003
