May 8, 2003 — BERLIN May 8 - Visitors to Berlin can now see Trafalgar Square's lions and the Bank of England, which have been erected here as part of a film set for ``Around the World in 80 Days'' starring martial arts legend Jackie Chan.
The set for the hoped-for blockbuster, a loose adaptation of the Jules Verne classic featuring British actor Steve Coogan as Phileas Fogg, has been built at the Gendarmenmarkt, one of Berlin's most historic squares
``We were able to gather together in Berlin most of the cities we need for the shoot,'' co-producer Bill Badalato told a press conference.
Scenes for the film had already been shot in Thailand and at the venerable Babelsberg film studio outside Berlin, but plenty of time and money has gone into recreating 19th Century London in the heart of the German capital.
The German Church, or Deutscher Dom, has been given a neo-baroque face-lift and a golden lion has also been added for the film, under the guidance of US director Frank Coraci.
The movie, in which Chan is an adventurer who bets he can circumnavigate the world in 80 days, also has a host of guest appearances by stars like John Cleese and German director Wim Wenders
