Anticipation Level:
How excited (or not) I am to see this movie...
finnaly, i can let myself go. many of us hate the idea of a dawn of the dead remake.
many of us dont agree with the fact, that james gunn, scriptor of the scooby doo films had written the screenplay.

however, like all of us. you cant miss a zombie film in theatres. no matter if its based on one of the grand daddys of zombie films. if you havent seen the movie. please, dont read this review.

in order to establish your own critique of the film. watch the movie.

when i got the chance. i watched the first showing at my nearby theatre. i was sitting at the top corner, for i can see the number of patrants flooding inside the auditorium like the walking dead. most of whom, just by looking at there faces, i can sense that each of them just want to see a scary zombie movie. one that each person knows, will not suck like the last zombie film( i think you know which one i am referring too).

i was with six of my closest friends, all of whom are die-hard fans of the original, and other horror films. each of us were anticipating how crappy the film is going to be, or if the gore will be sufficient enough to tend to our gory needs. will ,i can say i am half on the film. i will tell you why.

let me first say, i have a huge respect for the actors who portrayed there parts. they hit there notes on the spot, and made me want to join them.

ving rhames (kenneth) - for all i know, he can play any role, and come out the ultimate bad-ass character. his attitude in the film really fits in. he delivers in every aspect.for a little while, he also has that "i dont give a **** attitude" in the first half of the film. i really dug his scenes with a character named andy, who is stuck at the top of a gun store near the mall. the only way they can communicate is by markerboards.

sarah polley(ana)- i have seen her in quite a number of films. her character starts off frigthened, and down-right lucky, in this scenario. however, she comes out to be a huge part in the movie. her relationship with
michael shouldve explored more. but, she delivers her part well.

jake weber( michael)- i have only seen him in a couple of films. wendigo being one. he plays the broken-father part well. his character is the type of person who has worked in alot of dead-end jobs, divorced by his wife, basically the loser father. but, when the events happen. he finnaly is able to do something good in his life...to survive, and kick some zombie butt.

mekhi phiffer(andre)- fits his part, playing the overprotecting husband of his russian wife, she is pregnant with thee first born. his character basically wants to protect his unborn family. but, in certain circumstances.
he goes a little crazy.( hell, i would too)

michael kelly( cj)- his character first starts off as a knock-off of rhodes in day of the dead. being an *******. then, all of a sudden he turns into a good guy. why? i have no idea. but, he plays it well.

i can tell you everyone else, but i never fully got there names.most of them played there parts well. but, for some reason, there wasnt enough time to explore there characters. which is one of the faults if this film.

the story-
it starts off differently then the original, ana's husband is bitten by there child neighbor who has turned into an undead. he turn awakes and starts to attack ana, she nearly escapes and drives off in her car . the first ten minutes is great. showcasing your typical white suburban area, turning into a warzone. everyone is panicking to the point of no return. there is a nice showcase of television footage which shows a number of news reports being crashed by the dead.
as soon as the footage is over, ana and the rest of the survivors meet up and head to the mall.(which is offly quick)

for the middle half of the film, more survivors join, which is too many, in my account. there is a montage of our survivors enjoying themselves in the mall.

dislikes- the film fails to recapture the flavor of the original in many ways. I can say this remake is an over-exxagerated version of 28 days later. with more gore and blood.and t&a. the running zombies are a major let down for me personally. the make-up effects are great, but you cant really enjoy them if there running around everywhere like if they were bitten by rapid monkeys. i also dislike the whole concept that over ten thousand zombies cant push there wait on weak- unshattering glass. the film survives only on the characters and the gore. you can call this a admirable job to rediscover the flavor of old zombie films which are popularized by george romero or lucio fulci.

i can say the major flaw of this film is the fact it has no social point to it.especially in this day in age. romero pointed out at the consumer world in the 70's where many americans would flood there malls like walking zombies . and how many of us back then wanted that piece of spoiled pie. this film basically is the survival of man. which romero has explored countless times.

direction(zack snyder)- he did a good job, especially for his first film. great camera shots and stylish angles. they fit them decently with the action sequences.

my last thought- i guess i just let myself enjoy this film, since it really has no social commentary to it. the film had a great cast, wonderful action sequences, and gore. but, the original will always reign supreme.
