While I am pissed that so much of the books are cut in these movies, I can't deny that this looks epic.

I understand the reasoning behind keeping the movies under 2 and a half hours to better suit families with younger children, but the studio should release extended editions, a la LOTR on DVD.

I am loving the tone set in the trailers though.

My top movies of 2009

1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
2. Star Trek
3. District 9
4. Curious Case of Benjamin Button
5. Transformers 2

7. Watchmen
8. This Is It
9. Inglorious Basterds
10. Bruno
11. Wolverine
12. Friday 13th
13. Monsters Vs Aliens
14. Angels and Demon's
15. Hannah Montana

Definitely not bad looking.

My only prayer is that we haven't just now been shown the best parts of the film.

I have a feeling that's the case.

It does look good, but I still think from what i've heard that they've cut the wrong scenes out and left in unneccessary baggage. And I still hate Jim Broadbent as Slughorn. He's hugely miscast.

Never been a fan of Jim Broadbent, but he is as close to how I imagined Slughorn when I first read the book as I'd ever get. Plus he is one of the few big british names that hasn't been in a Potter movie yet, so it was going to happen at some point.

Slughorn is short, fat, balding, with a big walrus moustache, all of which Broadbent isn't in this film. Not to mention he doesn't even act like him in every clip they've put in the trailers so far.

Dolores Umbrige was miscast too, but that didn't seem to stop them from making one of the WORST adaptations in the form of Harry Potter 5.

Umbrige was supposed to be a short, squat, old woman with a frighteningly sweet voice. If she's still alive, that woman from the Poltergeist movies would have been perfect.

Even Bob Hoskins could have made a better Slughorn than Broadbent (Danny DeVito too if he could pull off a believable British accent).

It certainly won't be the books page for page.

Firstly, I really disagree with 5 being the worst of the adaptations. PoA takes that title FAR above and beyond. Also, I feel 5 was the closest in tone than most of the movies have been.
As far as Slughorn goes, making him short, fat and witha walrus mustache will too closely resemble Vernon, so I have no problem taking some creative licensing with the character.
As for this trailer, I can't believe I'm this far behind in seeing it. HOLY FUDGING POOP! This looks beyond epic. I can't wait.

I disagree with your agreement. i think POA was one of the best adaptations and 5 was the worst. the 5th book was my personal favorite out of the series and the thickest. they turned the movie into a condensted version which turned out to be one of the SHORTEST of the series. it totally destroyed the story of the sequel.
