these are the rules:

1. all member reviews of harry potter and the order of the phoenix will ONLY be contained in this thread

2. if you post your own review thread, it WILL be deleted and you will be notified through the email you provided to countingdown when you registered. i will remember to provide a copy of the review you posted, and also a link to the review thread

3. be NICE. do not slam others for their opinions - most of us are huge harry potter fans, but there are always people dropping by during the release. let's show them that hogwarts hospitality.

4. ENJOY YOURSELVES!

5. four item lists just seem to short, i had to round it out.

Holy crap... I am blown away. Sure a couple things they tweaked, but the main plot was dang close to the book.

I say the best one yet, and that is just not because it is the latest, it really is the best one yet.

Things tweaked that I noticed right off:
The whole DA getting caught by Cho Chang with Veritaserum. Harry's eyes glowing green instead of red when Voldemort was possesising him. The centaur thing was shorter. Not explaining Snape and his little hidden message thing at the end. Peck of owls was only one owl, instead of what...five? And the big one, Umbridge having the entire DA write lines on that cursed quill. Oh yeah, and Harry finding out that his father was a big bully by Occlumency lesson instead of the pensieve. And James hair was brown, instead of black.
Wow, I am a bit nit picky, but these things I can live with. I especially liked
how they extending the Voldemort possession thing, very emotional and excellent acting by Dan.
OK, I am totally going to bed.

One more to add to that list...
Sirius showed the Order photo to Harry rather than Moody
I was also slightly amused that
Lupin had multiple fresh cuts and bruises on him, but they were never explained
But I am also disconcerted that
there was no mention of Regulus or sight of a certain "heavy" locket
it makes me now question a) their significance and b) the strength of the subsequent movie continuity. Though I already knew the slight crumbling of the latter would occur with such a large book.

Finally...
HOORAY FOR NO S.P.E.W
It's Bruce!

Since this is a review thread, I am NOT using spoilers, don't read if you don't wanna know.

I personally loved it. But there was one thing I loved MOST out of the whole thing. It was a major change, and one that we all KNOW would have to be approved by JKR to be included. To me it was her saying "Yeah, that'll actually shut some people up!" Killing Sirius with Avada Kedavra and THEN having him fall through the veil. It was like her saying "Yes, he's dead, get over it!" That and when Sirius called Harry "James". Oh and Harry saying "Sorry Professor, I must not tell lies." as she's getting dragged away by Centaurs. But they left out my FAVORITE line from Book 5. Check my sig if you're unsure what. Good movie, everyone should see it.

Harry Potter Addicted, not a stoner.

I just couldn't do it, that pic was making me sick to my stomach. And to all those who kept calling me a racist, never again should you direct a comment in my direction again. You can all go to Hell for all I care.

I actually laughed a little when she AK-ed him. It just made the moment so much more blunt.

But you know, Bells could have always been just saying AK and her mind casting another spell....

I loooooooooooooved Umbridge... Great acting performance.

I was fairly disappointed with the battle scene. What was there, was brilliant, don't get me wrong. It's just... I wish we could have seen some of the other rooms in the Ministry and I definitely missed some of the DA action during the last battle...

But overall, excellent job!

WARNING: NO SPOILER TAGS

I would have to say this is the best Harry Potter movie yet! I mean, this movie was shorter than GOF and yet it didn't feel rushed at all. I think that they did a really good job with Grawp, because from reading the book, I kinda wished he wasn't in the movie, but the movie actually made me like his character. Evanna Lynch as Loon- I mean Luna Lovegood couldn't have been cast any better. She is exactly how the book portrayed her. Sure, I had some continuity gripes, but there were some that worked (namely sirius's death), and they were so miniscule that they barely took me away from the excitement of the film.

I loved it, and even though they obviously cut out a ton from the book they did alright with the basics. I think some of the stuff they choose to cut may come back in Deathly Hallows and will certainly throw people off if they don't read the books, but there's your lesson...read the books

I have a question and a challenge to those with good memories: the soundtrack is out of order with the events in the film, i.e. Fireworks is Track 1. Can anyone reorder the tracks in sequential order? I love listening to the movie scores while I'm working and when it's in order it really captures the essence of the film.

Well, I think I answered my own question:

1. Another Story
2. Darkness Takes Over
3. Dementors in the Underpass
4. Flight of the Order of the Phoenix
5. The Ministry of Magic
6. A Journey to Hogwarts
7. Professor Umbridge
8. The Sacking of Trelawny
9. The Sirius Deception
10. Dumbledore's Army
11. The Room of Requirements
12. The Kiss
13. Umbridge Spoils a Beautiful Morning
14. Possession
15. Fireworks
16. The Hall of Prophecies
17. The Death of Sirius
18. Loved Ones & Leaving

Let me know if you think something's out of place.

well i was barely functioning at 3am when i got home today, so there was no way i could post.

and lemme tell you, getting through a day of mind numbing work on four hours of sleep was not fun.

i enjoyed it. i think i'll need another viewing for everything to sink in properly which i know my fiance will LOVE.

i was a tad sad that
there was no howler to petunia
but i think the movie did flow well over all. as a HP fan, no super quibbles, just a list of little quibbles. such as, not enough teenage angst harry.

i must say though, the acting of the trio has improved greatly. i still think rupert is the best of the three, and i wish he had more to say.

one thing i was a tad sad about is
ginny's character not being completely developed in the film.
i think that it may make parts of book 6 a bit sudden for those who haven't read the books. although i would say about 90% of the theater knew and were totally rooting her on.

and i really wanted to hear a few choruses of
weasley is our king
. oh well.

on a side note, thanks everyone for cooperating so far!

K well i just seen it today, and i wasnt at all impressed. I know some of you will be like " WTF....", so here are my points.

First off, yea i read the book and i see where some of the info was ignored. Im not a super fan of the series but it did grow on me. So first off, i didnt really get into the movie at all, it felt sooo rushed (its ok since the book is like 700 pages or something). The feel to the movie was OK, and basically the only exciting thing in the movie was the end and THATS about it.

Things that made me roll my eyes were:

1. Where was dobby, he basically helps out Harry ALL the time like in Book4 and Book5 and they didnt even show him once since HP2. WTF?
2. WHY did DD's and Voldemorts wands connect?
3. Hagrid's role in this movie was un-needed. The only reason he was put in was to have Grawp (and he basically didnt do anything either) the centaurs could have easily taken out Umbridge.
4. Dudley. Why the hell was he talking like an idiot, he didnt talk like that in the other movies.
5. Movie was short, hostley more FX shot could have been put in.
6. Harry suddely agreed to being a teacher? AND also no article published by Luna's Dad's paper. That was one of the things that made Harry a rebel in that book.
7. The veil. When Sirius dies, it clearly stated in the book that he fell through, and not went in it and then flew up into the veil (honestly was i the only one that was like WTF just happened?)
8. Ron's dad was kinda pissing me off in the movie, he was too "second character" if u know what i mean.
9. Not enough distruction at the ministry. No statues broken, nothing. Only windows which turned into sand.
10. Fight with Voldemort and harry+DD was WAAAYYYYY too short. And also the fight with the Deather eaters was too short. They also didnt show if they apprehended Lucius and other Deatheaters.
11. Where was the whole "Locket" scene?

Overall, im gonna say that this movie was "weaker" than the others. The good things that i liked was:

1. Relationship between Harry and Sirius. Throughout the movie they showed Harry being an out-cast, and when he was with Sirius, u could actually believe that they were family. Honestly a nice touch, and Dan's AND Gary's performances were awsome.
2. They really stressed on the whole Ron-Hermione "thing" that was going on there.Nice.
3. Luna was funny, seriously what the hell is in that girls head LOL.
4. LOVE the feel that they were going for here, making it really dark and creepy.

K so this movie might not be THEE weakest out of all, but this one sure left me unsatisfied. So my score for this movie is gonna be:

7.5-8/10

P.S- Transformers STILL ownes the movies this summer, even if it doesnt have the money to back it up (but the $$$ is still rising!)

I'm not going to say too much. But I will say this; it was by far the best film of the entire series so far. Some people may say they should have put this or that in it, but to put anything else in it, to put everything in that people would have liked would have made it double the length, I was happy with the length of the film. My only problems, and these are mere niggles compared to some peoples:

1. Luna's dialogue was fragmented, I don't think Luna's that bizarre that she can't follow sentence after sentence, not even Luna in my opinion would speak in such a deliberate fashion, normally speech is fluid, this as I have said was fragmented and so takes away, in my opinion, from her ethereal bizarreness. But thats just my opinion.
2. And second, the actress they got for Mrs. Figg was awful, by far the worst choice yet.

Things I didn't notice first time round:

( I have now seen in twice, once on the day it came out, and then again today, gotta love that film)

When
Moody called tonks Nymphadora, her hair changed from pink to red, that was well placed.
But overall a good film, Gary oldman adding more to the magic, Alan rickman with his daft facial characteristics, (in umbridges office towards the end, she asks him what harry means, and of course he doesn't know, and his face adds a level of comedy slightly abnormal for him.)

The special effects, they were cool, and it was nice that Bellatrix Avada kedavra'd sirius, that puts the final nail in sirius's coffin.

but my overall rating for this excellent film has got to be 8.5/9 out of 10, definitely amazing, I wonder, should I go and see it a third time at the cinema...

who knows...

ha ha ha

^^ But he did know what Harry meant, remember? But he couldn't let Toad-Face know that. Shame they didn't include the part of Kreacher's betrayal and Snape alerting the Order...

**

Anyway...the audience makes the movie too. For example, I saw OotP at midnight in IMAX, everyone applauded and shouted at all the right places.

I went to see it a bit later, regular theatre, and all that excited applauding and whistling was totally gone. When
Fudge said, "He's back."
a lot of people scoffed at that, and at a few other places, but that was it. Quite depressing...

first, i thought it was awesome. it didn't feel rushed (except in the beginning) and i almost cried during the possession. so sad

i didn't like how they put dudley and the gang in there at the beginning. i found it kind of funny. and it annoyed me as well.

there also wasn't enough of angry harry. i didn't like it how when harry was in dumbledore's office they were talking and he wasn't yelling. that was one of my favourite parts of the book. oh well, they had a time limit to keep.

the fight between dumbledore and voldemort was the perfect amount of time i think. it was action packed and how i thought it would be. the only thing i didn't like was when dumbledore's and voldemort's wands connected. that was messed up.

the trio's performance was excellent. i felt there wasn't enough of ron and hermione, i felt, but rupert and emma still did an excellent job. dan did a wonderful job when sirius died and during the possesion. i absolutely loved it. as i mentioned before, i almost cried.

i loved how they showed more of sirius' and harry's relationship. it really showed how important sirius was to harry.

i also liked the look ginny gave harry when he went to talk to cho. my sister and i looked at eachother and both said "go ginny" at the same time. excellent.

OOTP is the best of the movies so far. i can't wait until the half-blood prince comes out.

Well i seen it again, and wow, it was just BOOOORRRRRRRIIIINNNNGGGG!

The movie became exciting when all the prisoners escape from Azkaban, about an hour 40 in. And then the fight at the ministry and THATS it. I thought that seeing this movie a second time would change my mind, but it didnt. GOF is still the best in the series along with POA.

I loved it, and even though they obviously cut out a ton from the book they did alright with the basics. I think some of the stuff they choose to cut may come back in Deathly Hallows and will certainly throw people off if they don't read the books, but there's your lesson...read the books

I have a question and a challenge to those with good memories: the soundtrack is out of order with the events in the film, i.e. Fireworks is Track 1. Can anyone reorder the tracks in sequential order? I love listening to the movie scores while I'm working and when it's in order it really captures the essence of the film.

Well, I think I answered my own question:

1. Another Story
2. Darkness Takes Over
3. Dementors in the Underpass
4. Flight of the Order of the Phoenix
5. The Ministry of Magic
6. A Journey to Hogwarts
7. Professor Umbridge
8. The Sacking of Trelawny
9. The Sirius Deception
10. Dumbledore's Army
11. The Room of Requirements
12. The Kiss
13. Umbridge Spoils a Beautiful Morning
14. Possession
15. Fireworks
16. The Hall of Prophecies
17. The Death of Sirius
18. Loved Ones & Leaving

Let me know if you think something's out of place.

The Sirius Deception should be after Fireworks.

So it should be:

1. Another Story
2. Darkness...
3. Dementors...
4. Flight of the Order...
5. The MoM
6. A Journey to Hogwarts
7. Prof. Umbridge
8. The Sacking...
9. D.A.
10. The Room...
11. The Kiss
12. Umbridge Spoils...
13. Fireworks
14. The Sirius Deception
15. The Hall of Prophecies
16. The Death of Sirius
17. Possession
18. Loved Ones & Leaving

I think Jo accepted how Sirius died (she looks over each screenplay) so it's like a message to the people who think he is still alive... that he is really dead, hence flying through the veil.

Thats still a bulls*** move on her part. I know that some people still think he's alive and want answers in book7, but now since that movie, i bet most were like WTF when that happend. Oh and also, when sirius got hit with the A K curse, he looked like he was still alive, but in the book it states that when u get hit buy it you die instantly so wtf, i got get it.

Well I liked it overall a solid B from me as a movie on its own. The pacing really threw me off and it seemed to fly by, almost as if someone put the book in a player and hit fast forward.

Interesting changes especially the
cho betraying DA, and just the way they glossed over the locket... will be interesting to see that revisted in movie 7
Could of used another 15 minutes or so just to slow things down a bit and let things develop but I must say I liked it and was satisfied.

TOTALLY agree on the quote with you there! When I read book 5, I was so upset when I began thinking about the movie, knowing that they had not included Peeves! That line gave me chills in the book! (Yes, lines from books give me chills...bonified and proud dork, here).

Moving on...

Can I even pick a favorite scene? Let me try:
the flight of the OOTP to London, any scene with Luna (the lovely Evana Lynch, the fireworks, the amazing final battle
. Plus...has anyone checked out Nicholas Hooper's complimentary score? It does a great job, continuining with the magic composer John Williams started us with those many years ago...*sigh*

Gosh, how could I have forgotten my praise for Umbridge, Snape and Voldemort?!? First of all, newcomer Emelda Staunton stole the movie. How many of us are seriously considering going as her for Halloween? Show of hands?!? Plus, she gets a great Imperial March-like theme from composer Nicholas Hooper. I cannot WAIT to see her back in movie 7.

"Obviously...", to borrow a direct quote from the man himself, Alan Rickman delivered another tremendous (albeit short) performance as Snape. Let us pray that this man continues to sign on for the final 2 movies, because I believe he has done a tremendous job, and I think we should sign a petition to get him an honorary Oscar! I am sitting on pins and needles to see what he turns out in Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows!

Darth Vader. The Joker. Captain Barbossa. Hannibal Lecter. Some of the greatest villains in all of movie history. I dare say Ray Fienne's portrayal of Voldemort will join their ranks by the time this movie franchise is complete. Considering he had one major scene in OOTP, I felt like he strengthened the movie ten-fold. He was SO amazing...like, makes-you-WANT-to-be-a-De
ath-Eater amazing.

And I, for one, have always applauded Michael Gambon's Dumbledore, although I still do dearly miss Richard Harris, rest in peace. But I feel Gambon has really taken a hold of DD and made it his own. I sometimes forget he replaced Harris!
