But this isnt Grindhouse... this is Harry freaking Potter... The name alone generates money just being spoken so I dont see why they think it would bomb because of it being 3 or more hours... Grindhouse bombed because it sucked.... not because it was 3 hours

yeah, being 3 hours+ didn't turn me away, grindhouse just didn't look appealing to me

btw if 3 hours turns people away from movies, how come Titanic and LOTR made the money they did?!?!

Not to mention Pirates! I wonder if it's because of the kids... but this stopped being a children book AND movie a while ago. Actually I don't think it should have ever been. How creepy and nightmareish is it to have another dude's face in the back of your head?

Frankly, I don't see a problem here. Over two hours of film is good enough for me... From the look of it, this is going to be one heck of an adaptation!

I think that's a good running time , if you cut the crap out of most movies you get a decent film - you wouldn't want it say 165 minutes with alot of slow crap in it , I think some of these over long movies have to much slow times which can bore some people .

138 minutes??? bloody nora, what the hell are they thinking, surely this isn't true? that is nowhere near long enough, surely there wasnt that much that could be cut, its just, there will be no story whatsoever, it will be pretty much non stop action, actions fine, but no story, thats awful

As far as some people are concerned, it's been confirmed by Warner Bros. that the total running time will be 150 minutes, including credits , which would mean we'll be seeing 12 minutes of credits. Make what you will of it.

I'm personally very happy with it, especially if the running time is 138 minutes without credits. I'd still be happy if it turns out to be false. The book needed trimming, anyway. Not to mention that it's mostly made up of Harry's inner thoughts and heavy descriptions, both of which can easily be transferred to screen and shown in thirty seconds or less for the audience before moving forward again.

It wouldn't even be that long in the first place, anyway, were it not for Harry's angsty phase of which obviously veered most verbose, all those new places that needed thoroughly describing, and the delectable fillers. Hell, the first two movies shouldn't even be that long to begin with, but alas, disappointment abounded.

that's not bad. 3 hours is 2 long (POTC 3)
1 1/2 is too short ( Shrek The Third). So, i'm good.

This is not what you want for longer minute. Because WB to make money for film is very expensive and money. All Director have to decide. Up to them and screenplay have to decide and plenty money. We can't sue WB that we want to get more min. longer. We can't. I love that 2 and half hours look great.

Pirate part 3 was so long 3 hours. Wow! But it look good movie.

Just goes to show you that a lot of pages can be rendered down to a few quick camera shots.

Personally I always found book 5 to be weak, and laborious to read. A fast-faced film can do a good job of telling the key parts of the story.

Longer is not always better in movies

I completely agree with you. There's nothing wrong with having a 2 hour + movie.

Not to mention the fact that we all KNOW that there are going to be TONS of deleted scenes included when they release the DVD. Of course, I think they're starting to shoot scenes SPECIFICALLY for the purpose of releasing them exclusively to DVDs to sell more movies, which is a really cheap move.

That is total bulls**t! Wats wrong with WB like New Line made Lord of the Rings progressively longer according to the amount of detail in the books and here we r wid da potter flicks getting shorter as we go.

I'm not concerned with the length as long as they nail all of the main points. Take a look at Goblet of Fire . . . only marginally longer than the other two and still a great and faithful adaptation. The book, OotP had a lot of shall we say "frivolous ends," especially toward the beginning.

"I seek faith in the unfaithful just as you seek peace and atonement in a war-torn world."

"The common wit is not fair to middling."

"Laugh at me all you want, one day you'll all be kissing my feet."
