| How excited (or not) I am to see this movie... |

Tsk, tsk, tsk. After seeing the long trailer of The Punisher, with Heck Thorton singing his scary song to Frank Castle, I was expecting this movie to kick ass. Well, it does on one level and disappoints on another. So without going into great detail as if I'm some great movie critic, let me break it down:
What rocked:
The action. The Punisher does punish, and he does it well. Some killings are very inventive. I would compare it to the sadistic ways in which Jason Vorhees eliminates teenage campgoers. I won't give one away, but one set of deaths is very smart.
Thomas Jane. He's buff, he's got the gruff voice and no matter how hard an ass kicking he gets, he still comes back for more. Hey, he's better than Dolph Lundgreden, right?
John Trovolta. Yeah, I said it! He's a very good villain and he plays the richie rich criminal well.
What sucked:
The death of the punisher's family. Ok
[SPOILER] so his whole ENTIRE family gets killed? [/SPOILER]. That really ruins it. That didn't work for me. They put the scene for this at a family reunion, and it just doesn't feel awful enough. Yeah, sounds weird to say, but i'm saying it!
The comic relief. The jake and the fatman comedy duo didn't really make me laugh. They added hardly anything and I wouldn't miss them if they were cut out.

For a chick who works in a restaraunt and hangs with two smelly guys in a crappy apartment building, she looks too damn hot! At least throw some dirt on the woman or knock out a tooth. Put some charlize theron "Monster" makeup on her. Geez
Weak Dialouge. I'd give you an example, but usually I only remember, well, memorable lines. You've got Jane, Travolta and Stamos, and you couldn't feed them some cool lines?
I say that when the sequel inevitably comes, get a better writer. And maybe a better director. The Punisher didn't kick my ass like I wanted it to, like I feel that "Kill Bill Vol2" or "Hellboy" will when I go to see it. |
