| How excited (or not) I am to see this movie... |
|
Many have bashed this film, and a few have applauded it, but I am here to say, as a large comic-book fan and movie fan alike, that it does not deserve its bashing.
If Spider-Man is your favorite comic-adaption and you didn't care for such exploits like Daredevil or Hellboy or Batman, then chances are you won't care for THE PUNISHER as much. Someone (I forget who) once said the world is divided up into people who like Batman and people who like Superman. I suppose this could be considered partly true.
THE PUNISHER is not as gritty as Daredevil in the way it portrays its characters area of battle, namely Tampa Bay. It is not as cheerful as Hellboy. But it does not try to be. It's a brutal bullet-ridden tale of revenge that manages to deliver an intense and entertaining experience for a relatively less-than-blockbuster budget. The acting is all around fairly decent (heck, John Travolta is in it!) The score is average-comic book fair, but the action is what makes it stand out. Recently hard action films are either endlessly blood filled or full of slowmotion pan and tilts. THE PUNISHER likes to get down and gritty.
Overall, this film is an enjoyable waste of brain cells that can satisfy most fans of the comics (I personally wanted a more action-packed climax) and regular movie-viewers. Only one complaint: Do they REALLY need all those gun clicking-sliding-sound effects?
RATING: B+
