War of the Worlds -- with more than $234 million in theatrical earnings -- finished second. The Hollywood Reporter says first-week sales for "Polar Express" were at a little less than 4 million units, while War of the Worlds moved nearly 3 million units. On trade publication Home Media Retailing's rental chart, War of the Worlds narrowly edged "Polar Express" for the top spot, with respective rental earnings estimated at $15.34 million and $13.03 million.
