| My thoughts on this movie... |

Darkly disturbing, disturbingly dark, gripping, gritty, and intensely "real," Mystic River with its satisfyingly unsatisfying ending, lives up to all expectations for it. It is clearly Eastwood's best work so far. Tim Robbins' face--haunting, haunted, seeming almost to crumple in on itself-- continues to unsettle me days after seeing this film.
One tends to think of Robbins more as an activist than an actor ("Bob Roberts", "Dead Man Walking") but here he shows his chops in the most compelling way.
The lack of a pat "clean it up, tie it in a bow, and dust off your hands" ending, while it left a few others in my group dissatisfied, for me added greatly to the movie's believability. I ended up with absolutely nothing to criticize. "Mystic River" is an almost perfect film, and should be well-recognized as such at Oscar time.
