Bugs Bunny is back -- at age 63

SUBMITTED BY Timbo

November 11, 2003 — The animated stars of Looney Tunes "talked" to the press about their new movie, one of whom, Bugs Bunny, is a venerable 63.

Bugs' rival Daffy Duck says it is he who is the film's real star, but Bugs doesn't buy the cartoon trash talk.

"Daffy says he's the star of everything. Daffy says he's the star of supermarket openings," the buck-toothed Bugs said at a recent news conference.

Bugs talked to reporters via teleconference, piped in through telephone lines from an undisclosed location that the executives at Warner Bros., out of concerns for his security, would not disclose.

To hear the descendants of the brothers Warner tell it, Bugs gets the star treatment -- lunch in the executive dining room and a chaffeur-driven limousine.

It's no wonder. Mr. Bunny won an Oscar in 1958 for "Knightly Knight Bugs," and has been nominated three times. He's starred in 175 animated short films since his creation in 1940.

So, when it came time talk about "Back in Action," Warner asked Bugs to do the schtick, not Daffy. And, in the movie, when it came time to take a punch to the face or the gunshot to the body, Daffy stood in.

"Aaaaa, it's in the contract," said Bugs.,/i>
