July 31, 2001 — The Salt Lake Tribune has
written a story on the upcoming films for 2002. There were some nice
things to say, some not so nice things, and then one very short
question. Check out what they think of your favorite film due out
next year. Thanks Squrik for the peak.
This summer has given us "Jurassic Park III," "Dr. Dolittle 2,"
"Scary Movie 2," "The Mummy Returns" and the "Planet of the Apes"
remake, with "Rush Hour 2" and "American Pie 2" arriving in the next
few weeks.
If this summer looks like a retread of past years, so does next
summer. Risk-averse Hollywood will be throwing a lot of "2s" our way
in the summer of 2002 -- along with a couple of "3s" and remakes of
old movies and not-so-old TV shows, according to the Web site
Upcomingmovies.com. Here's a peek:
"The Powerpuff Girls" (date unknown) -- Cartoon Network's
crime-busting moppets hit the big screen, thankfully still as
animated figures.
...Also in 2002: sequels to "Pokemon," "Rugrats," "Final
Destination," "Blade" and "Spawn," as well as "The Scorpion King" (a
spinoff of "The Mummy Returns" starring The Rock), the delayed
"Rollerball" remake and -- would you believe? -- Steven Soderbergh's
proposed followup to "sex, lies and videotape," tentatively titled
"How to Survive a Hotel Room Fire." And Christmas 2002 promises
"X-Men 2," "The Matrix Reloaded," "Star Trek: Nemesis," the third
"Friday" movie, the 20th James Bond movie and "The Two Towers," the
middle chapter of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (the first chapter,
"The Fellowship of the Ring," debuts this December).
