Todd McFarlane will be financing the script development for the long-delayed Spawn 2, which may simply be called Spawn, according to Home Media Magazine. McFarlane is currently writing the script and says that the new film wont have any ties with the first film (the disaster). He also says that the film will be darker and creepier, I can make a spooky, suspenseful thriller that will scare the crap out of you. No word on if this will be a direct-to-video title or not.

This is one of the best news I've heard this year.

I liked the first spawn movie. I don't think it was a bad movie. But I can see why some people thought it wasn't good and also why they're doing it over again.

He's still writing the script was my initial response but I guess these things take a long time. He can do a decent scary movie on a $20M-$50M budget. I hope it see's a theater release but it might be more profitable for it to go straight to DVD.

Found a cool pic from the first film. Its hard to explain why the first movie wasn't so successful because it had great potential. I think it was mainly to do with cgi at the time maybe.

i liked the first one and even own the DVD but i think the first one didnt do so well mainly because Spawn used machine guns in the first one (which strays far from the comics, originally he used whatever he could find EX: a piece of wood with a nail in it, or he'd just beat them to death)

He only used his guns at first because he didnt know how to do his super powers. He uses guns in the comic any way.

McFarlane needs to do everything in his power and his finances to make certain that this film is up to theater quality and then some.

Making it a direct-to-video release will just tell everyone the same thing that all OTHER direct-to-video releases do: That it's a lot WORSE than the one that was in the theaters. The story of Spawn has the potential to be SO much more than that.

Spawn didn't do that bad.

Spawn featured, for its time, impressive special effects courtesy of Industrial Light and Magic. Though it received mixed reviews, it was considered a modest box-office success, earning $54.97 million domestically, a little over $69 million worldwide.

The first movie was sick! I know there were some stupid parts and some overacting, but it was a good movie, great effects and C'mon Lugizamo as Clown, you can't beat that. thumbs up for the sequel..

Leguizamo was the ONLY believable character in that film. I think the rest of it was only a success because Spawn was so popular at the time. You have to look at it years down the road.

Right now, I can watch the Star Wars Trilogy from the 70's & 80's and still be as impressed with them as when I first saw them. I watch that SPAWN movie now, and it's just a load of tripe.

I think Leguizamo stole the show in that film. They did the best with it for its time. I thought the medieval guy was a cool character especially at the end fighting the big monster.

Personally i didnt like spawn, i thought lacked in alot of scenes and the CGI was pretty bad (still it was back in the dday but my not really counting it against the film), and the NUMBER 1 thing that i totally HATED in the movie was the stupid commentary by that old guy that had a sword or whatever for a hand.

I think that Spawn just past its time, and shouldnt be made. Its not popular anymore and if they do make this movie, they should make it really scary and and no commentary (which pissed me off and made the movie gay).

Ok I watched the directors cut of Spawn again. The CGI was good apart from the Devil which sucked so bad and looked as if a kid did it. But over all it was pretty good, it just needed to be darker and scarier with blood and guts because they focused too much on the action.

But when I clicked on the extras I watched Mcferlans interview, not the making of. He even mentions the sequel he said something like" the second film will be different interms of characters and moving the story along" and then he says " it would defiantly be an R rated film next time, so sorry mums" . But over all it was interesting hearing his opinions on Spawn. And seemed like they wouldn't remake Spawn in any way so that was a good thing to hear but just make a darker and scarier film and more true to the comics.

I found an interview on youtube as well. http://youtube.com/watch?

All the casting was TOTALLY wrong for the first film (with the exception of Clown).

What the HELL was up with Terry being a WHITE guy???!!!

on terry being a white guy, its hollywood..they didnt want whitey to be the bad guy (kind of a KKK kinda deal) so they had to put a white dude for terry. wasn't all that bad, i'm still hoping for a sequel though. Bring Leguizamo back as the Clown, cast Kieth David (voice of Spawn in the animated series) as Spawn and make it an R rating and bring it to theatres!!

All I know is that the jury's still out on McFarlane being able to write a "creepy thriller that will scare the crap out of you."

Of course, I liked the HBO series better than the movie, but even that didn't SCARE me.
