According to an insider for TheArnoldFans.com site, Warner are seriously considering putting out a special edition "Terminator 3" DVD. As you'll recall, the previously released disc was fun, but no more so than making your mother-in-law skull gin and forcing her to jig to 'Dr Alban'.
The insider apparently works at Warner - and helped put together the previous "T3" DVD - and says he sat down with execs in the 'early Summer' to discuss a proposed new T3 DVD that would incorporate a slew of new extras as well as lost material.
With "Terminator 4" in the works, the studio is likely to do a new "Terminator 3" DVD anyway says the scooper, but he's putting the hard word down on the big-wigs to make it 'worth' the dough. The DVD would most likely include an extended and thorough Terminator timeline with interactive audio/video clips, "lost" storyboards, a graphic-style popup commentary, improved interactive menus ala T2 Ultimate & Extreme DVDs with new computer animated peeks into the belly of Skynet, and more. "But the best part would be if Mostow and Warner got involved to produce some sort of "bridged version" of the film. I've seen this done with storyboards and script pages on other DVDs", he tells.
Secondly, the idea for a "T3.5", an extended version of the film as we know it, is gaining steam. Apparently there was a heap of footage that was either storyboarded or shot (scenes with Alana Curry, for instance, were shot, but lost in the editing room) and I too think if the film had an extra half-hour or so tacked on it would be a significant improvement. "T3" was enjoyable, but it did feel half-cooked, as if the projectionist had forgot to whack on the third reel or something. Best Case Scenario : "T3.5" is released to theatres.
One way to get Warner to do a "T3.5" is to add Chad Campbell's T3.5 script on the special edition T3 DVD. "Who knows, maybe this will help push Warner to reshoot the scenes Mr. Campbell has suggested, thus creating a "bridged" version of the movie", says the studio whisperer.
"T4" is currently only in the writing stages, but I dare say it'll be in front of the cameras within a year or so - even if Arnold isn't headlining it. Maybe a re-issued "T3" will hold the T-800 fans over.
