I didn't really think the movie was THAT good, but honestly, the visual effects were probably the best effects I've EVER seen. Especially at the end, when they merge the two scenes together, that was GOLD!!!!

i agree i was worried the critics were really bashing it but the movie was better than i excpected it was a lot darker and intense than the classic time machine from the 60's i would recomend it but someone please explain the ending to me noone has hit on the fact
that when he set the time machine to blow only the morlocks underground were sent into the future and noone above ground was how was that possible
but besides that i thought it was a great movie

For me, It was "Lord of the Rings" meets "The Count of Monte Christo." I thought it was much better than "LotR." I am not clear on my comparison to "Monte Christo." It was a spectacular movie. I haven't read the book, but, since it apparently didn't follow it to closely, that didn't matter. I was a little worried after reading the NY Times review, but that guy was all wrong. Orlando, Guy, and Jeremy were all magnificent, I can't pick a favorite. It is either the first or second best film I have seen this season. Some questions to be answered, for instance
what happens to the elders?
but other than that it was awesome.

Something about the end of the world. - Sam, Lord of the Rings

I believe that the elders
are sucked down by the Morlocks...no one lives long enough to become an elder because they are hunted by the Morlocks.
And regarding another point about the ending:
when Alexander set the time machine below to get all the Morlocks...I didn't realize he'd set it to send them all to the future. I didn't quite understand why it affected the Morlocks outside of the sphere of the machine.
Wish I could be more help on that one...I have some unanswered questions myself.
