| 'Chocolate Factory' Makes $20.8M On First Day! |

Director Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore, opened to an impressive $20.8 million from 3,770 theaters on Friday. The adaptation of the Roald Dahl book was released by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Second place belonged to New Line comedy Wedding Crashers, with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, which earned $10.8 million on its first day from 2,925 locations.
Last week's champ, Fantastic Four, suffered a big 69.6% drop in ticket sales when comparing Fridays. The $100 million-budgeted comic book adaptation took in $6.5 million and has collected $82.8 million in eight days.
Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, starring Tom Cruise, added another $4.4 million for a total of $181.8 million. The sci-fi thriller cost about $132 million to make.
Warner Bros.' Batman Begins rounded out the top five with $1.6 million and has earned $181.7 million.
