July 3, 2001 — 'Bugs', wrote in to Batman on Film about WB's supposed production slate:
For the record, let's just say that I am 'close' to Warner Brothers. This is the latest rumor to float around the lot in regards to the BATMAN projects in the works. The studio wants a Bat-film out in 2003. This will follow 2002's SPIDERMAN and to compete with X-MEN 2. I have seen where you have reported that WB does not want to see Marvel 'own' the comicbook-film market--this is absolutely true-- so there is a rush so-to-speak, to get a DC-based film out. The plan I have heard about would have BATMAN BEYOND released in 2003. It would be a sequel of sorts to the last four films. I don't know anymore details, but rumor has it that the studio really liked what Dini, Burnett, and Yakin have come up with. YEAR ONE would follow about two to three years later, 2005 or 2006. Since it is a restart, WB is in no hurry with this project. In between, CATWOMAN, WONDER WOMAN, and perhaps even SUPERMAN LIVES. That is the latest from what I have been able to gather. |
