July 1, 2002 — 'Anonymous' tells us:
Barry Sonnenfeld, director of the upcoming digital-effects blockbuster Men in Black 2, may be the most tech-obsessed man in Hollywood. The July issue of Business 2.0 magazine reports on just how wired he is and how hes made Hollywoods A-list, without even living there.
Here's a clip:
Across the country in San Rafael, Calif., Industrial Light & Magic simultaneously went to work on the postproduction special effects. (Three other California special-effects houses pitched in: Sony Imageworks in Culver City, Tippett Studio in Berkeley, and Illusion Arts in Van Nuys.) Such specialty firms are the magicians of modern digital motion-picture making. For Sonnenfeld they did everything from removing visible wires from flying stuntmen to designing and animating giant alien worms. All told, 150 ILM digital artists spent a year working on effects for MIB2.
