May 11, 2001 — A not too positive review from Susan Wloszczyna. Here's a clip:
You can just hear the post-modern pitch that director/writer/producer Brian Helgeland, an Oscar winner for his script for L.A. Confidential, made to the studio heads: We'll put one of those hunky Aussie imports in armor, just like Russell Crowe in Gladiator but younger. And we will make him a commoner who rises to greatness just like Mel Gibson in Braveheart and an inspiration to the downtrodden masses akin to Robin Hood, complete with semi-merry sidekicks (roly-poly Mark Addy of The Full Monty, carrot-topped Alan Tudyk).
