X-Men 2 is the best superhero film ever made. One of the smartest. The best looking. The top of the heap. Why? Because 20th Century Fox let them take their time. Because Bryan Singer is a filmmaker who happens to make superhero films at this point in his career. Because it's filled with actors and because a ton of money was provided to make sure that there'd be no accusations of not delivering Grade-A crowd pleasing content. Because the bar was raised and they made no bones about raising it higher. Because the writers, producers, and director all made sure to preserve the comic AND the film franchise. Because the audience isn't as stupid as people think. There are some WICKED references to the comic, from little sly placements of characters (read the computer screens and TV screens) as well as one heck of a hint in the film's last scene that should have more than a few X-fans getting a little misty. The more I think about it, the more astounded I am that the whole thing didn't collapse under its own weight.
