Sorry, I think the chance of that is pretty much zero. The movieverse is totally different from the comicverse. Singer's approach is very realistic - no aliens, no other dimensions. Don't expect Apocalypse, Pheonix, the Shi'ar, the Fantastic Four, Dr. Strange, etc. Just plain old humans and mutants and the struggle for acceptance and harmony. The best bet (assuming that they adapt a comicverse idea) is the Sentinels or the Legacy Virus storyline. These plotlines follow the progression of the theme of man's inhumanity to their fellow man and the eternal striving of individuals for acceptance of the group (society).
I'm afraid that I have to agree with Tarchannon. They won't be putting any sort of cosmic entities into the films. Even if they were to rewrite what the Phoenix force is, it would still end up as something totally far fetched like a spirit of the Earth or something. This would have nothing to do with the basic concept of the X-Men- Heroes fighting for the survival of a world that fears and hates them. The Dark Phoenix saga had nothing at all to do with this concept, so we are unlikely to see it in a movie. We'll just have to settle for our comics version, or the 90's animated series version. A two hour movie would totally screw it up anyway. I'm glad it's not going to happen. They need to stick with stories that fit in two hours. The rumors that the current movie is based on God Loves, Man Kills makes total sense. It's a short story to begin with, and it's a great one to boot. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. |

| i like longshot's idea...in x3, jean acquires the codename pheonix, and also, you see hints of evil, a la episode 2. then, in the end, she bursts into the dark pheonix, spins around and then there's a close up on her glowing eyes, and then it ends!!! then it says, x4 coming soon. then credits. "We declare our right on this earth...to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary."

First of all, I wouldn't take them into space. I would rip out that whole space entity possessing her or becomming a clone of her or any of that other weird stuff. I would make the transformation completely her doing.
And the big difference between her and Magneto is that from day one, we are introduced to Mags as a villian. A sympethetic villian, but still a villian.
Now we get to see a good guy currupted by her power. She is a character that by the time she does go Dark, we have a connection to her.
Plus, the rest of the team will be far more affected by her going bad than Magneto. 2 of the guys on the team love her. Xavier sees her as a daughter. Rogue may see her as a maternal figure.
And now them must take down one of their own. That is why the film will work.
As for a film exclusively about 1 character, it wouldn't be. Was the original Dark Phoenix Saga about 1 character? No. It was about her going bad, but also about the rest of the team fighting with the inevidability that they would have to stop her. It was about Scott fighting for the woman he loves. It was about Xavier seeing his first student die.
And it still had plenty of action.
And it still would be a stand alone 2 films. The first film would be the X-Men versus the Helfire Club (or whoever). During the course of the film, Jean becomes more powerful and takes the codename Phoenix.
But when it ends, it ends. Phoenix is powerful, but still good. We may see hints of her having trouble controlling the power, but that's it.
The next film is about her corruption.
