Sorry, I think the chance of that is pretty much zero. The movieverse is totally different from the comicverse. Singer's approach is very realistic - no aliens, no other dimensions. Don't expect Apocalypse, Pheonix, the Shi'ar, the Fantastic Four, Dr. Strange, etc. Just plain old humans and mutants and the struggle for acceptance and harmony. The best bet (assuming that they adapt a comicverse idea) is the Sentinels or the Legacy Virus storyline. These plotlines follow the progression of the theme of man's inhumanity to their fellow man and the eternal striving of individuals for acceptance of the group (society).

I'm afraid that I have to agree with Tarchannon. They won't be putting any sort of cosmic entities into the films. Even if they were to rewrite what the Phoenix force is, it would still end up as something totally far fetched like a spirit of the Earth or something. This would have nothing to do with the basic concept of the X-Men- Heroes fighting for the survival of a world that fears and hates them. The Dark Phoenix saga had nothing at all to do with this concept, so we are unlikely to see it in a movie. We'll just have to settle for our comics version, or the 90's animated series version. A two hour movie would totally screw it up anyway. I'm glad it's not going to happen. They need to stick with stories that fit in two hours. The rumors that the current movie is based on God Loves, Man Kills makes total sense. It's a short story to begin with, and it's a great one to boot.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Actually, I could see Singer pulling off the Dark Phoenix Saga as episodes 3 and 4. It would take 2 episodes to do it propperly. In the fist part, Jean becomes more powerful and takes the name Phoenix. In the second film, the increased power currupts her and consumes her. She transforms into Dark Phoenix (just like in the original telling of it before Marvel rewrote it to say it wasn't Jean but some space thingy) and the X-Men must dispatch her. That could work very well and still be realistic.

I am going to agree with brother wildstar on this one. Just stick with what they are doing. I mean God loves man kills was awesome and maybe you could throw some sentinel action in during the 3rd movie. They could end the sequal with them showing the discussing or show humans looking at blueprints of them for a cliffhanger.

Or better yet, having Remy deliver a set of blueprints to Xavier, who rolls them out on the desk revealing Sentinel blueprints....

But if mutants are this powerful, then the inevitability that one of them won't be able to control their powers and becomes the danger that humanity thinks they all are would just add to the theme of Mutant vs. Human. Because not it gives credibility to their fears. And now the X-Men must actually do what the humans with the Sentinels wanted to do. They must hunt down one of their own.

If done right, it could be amazing, but still be realistic. and fit within the theme.

Plus, you do not want to completely rule out all X-Men lure that does not fit nicely in that single mindset.
That is why my scripts are broken into 3 chapter (film) stories on a given theme. My first 3 scripts focus on Man's fear and hatred of that which he does not understand.
The second trillogy is the enemy within. It is the story of power currupting a good person. The first chapter is Jean harnessing new untapped power and finding her place in the world. The third film is her growing more powerful. Her teamates become concerned and she even frightens herself. All the while, the first two films could be about the morlocks or the Hellfire Club or any other piece of X-Men mythos.
Perhaps there is a flicker of evil in her when dealing with the villian, but her friends and Xavier are able to bring her back from the edge.

The third film is exclusively about Jean. She becomes a slave to the power. She becomes evil and the X-men must kill her to save the world. They are forced to become that which they despise in order to insure that there is a future. Of course Cyclops would have to finish the job and actually kill her.

Now you tell me how that would be out of place with the other films.

i like longshot's idea...in x3, jean acquires the codename pheonix, and also, you see hints of evil, a la episode 2. then, in the end, she bursts into the dark pheonix, spins around and then there's a close up on her glowing eyes, and then it ends!!! then it says, x4 coming soon. then credits.

I seriously doubt that there will be any two part movies. They will be interwoven stand alones. I'm not saying I don't like the Pheonix Saga, but they aren't going to do something that complex, not something that focuses on one character, and certinaly not a story that takes the team to outer space or invokes celestial beings. It's not a viable movie pitch for these guys.

Your idea is great! I mean it's really great. But I don't think it's never gonna happen in this series of movies. Maybe you should write the next cartoon series!

To answer your question specifically, too long, too complex, focused on one character (I can hear Marsden and Berry screaming now!), and I think the studio would say that the mutant gone bad was already done with Magneto. I think the focus will remain the struggle of the oppressed minority for acceptance by the majority. Humans vs. mutants. Outcasts vs. society.

First of all, I wouldn't take them into space. I would rip out that whole space entity possessing her or becomming a clone of her or any of that other weird stuff. I would make the transformation completely her doing.

And the big difference between her and Magneto is that from day one, we are introduced to Mags as a villian. A sympethetic villian, but still a villian.
Now we get to see a good guy currupted by her power. She is a character that by the time she does go Dark, we have a connection to her.

Plus, the rest of the team will be far more affected by her going bad than Magneto. 2 of the guys on the team love her. Xavier sees her as a daughter. Rogue may see her as a maternal figure.

And now them must take down one of their own. That is why the film will work.

As for a film exclusively about 1 character, it wouldn't be. Was the original Dark Phoenix Saga about 1 character? No. It was about her going bad, but also about the rest of the team fighting with the inevidability that they would have to stop her. It was about Scott fighting for the woman he loves. It was about Xavier seeing his first student die.
And it still had plenty of action.

And it still would be a stand alone 2 films. The first film would be the X-Men versus the Helfire Club (or whoever). During the course of the film, Jean becomes more powerful and takes the codename Phoenix.
But when it ends, it ends. Phoenix is powerful, but still good. We may see hints of her having trouble controlling the power, but that's it.

The next film is about her corruption.

Like I said, I think your idea is great. I've also recently changed my mind - I think they will do more then three X-Men movies. I don't think they will do any two parters though.

I guess my majot comment would be that what you propose isn't really Dark Pheonix - as in the comics. You are proposing a totally different story that could share the same title. My inital comments were purely directed at a traditional Dark Pheonix story.

Hey, I still don think that there is a snowball's chance in hell that they'll do it. And that may just be too bad for us. I think you should help write the next movie script.

First off just let me say I would love to see the Dark Phoenix Saga, sounds like a good idea longshot, I'm behind it.

Realistically I think the Legacy Virus storyline has a good shot at making it to screen because of the technology that is currently available. It was already established in the first film that the technology level is equal to what it is today; currently today we are unable to make huge walking sentinals, the most advance self sustained robot on the market today (besides the ones tweeked by universities) would be robopets. To go from there to large (human sized or larger) sentinals would be one large step. On the other hand scientists cook up some of the most deadly things imaginable on a weekly basis. So the Legacy Virus wouldn't be that far stretched. Plus it would be able to dive into the testing on mutants thing that was brought up in the first film (how/why wolverine got his adamantium skeleton).

Just my two cents, so please don't tar and feather me

No tar and feathers here. I pretty much agree with everything you've said, but we aren't quite there in the virus engineering technology. But since the avergae person in the public thisnks that we either can, or doesn't care, it's a good sell. The LV storyline also seems to fit well with the Singer slant on things.

I agree about the giant robots Sentinels. However, I have found a way around that in my script for X-Men 2.

And I could make the Phoenix Saga work as well.
Yeah, I should help write their scripts.
