June 17, 2002 — In various recent interviews Spielberg confided that he's determined to make a traditional musical.
He told the Houston Chronicle that, "There are many mountains to climb and some are still in the mist. One mountain not in the mist is a musical. I am absolutely desirous of making one, perhaps a revival of a stage show that hasn't had a movie yet."
As it turns out Spielberg was previously offered such an opportunity. However he turned down directing Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera. He said that he prefers a musical with dialogue and characters bursting into song. |
