I saw the movie the other day and thought it was excellent...much better than A.I., and Tom Cruise's performance wasn't distracting either but there were a couple thigns that bothered me about the story. If anyone can help explain these things I loved to hear it, so far the people I have brought it up to haven't been able to help me. I do plan on reading ****'s short story eventually.

First I want to know why Leo Crow's murder was predicted by the precogs as being premeditated. Anderton would never have even started looking for Crow if the balls hadn't come down the tubes and he didn't have any reason to kill Crow until he saw the pictures of his son. Wouldn't that have made it a crime of passion? The sequence of events is what bothers me the most...agatha and the twins are the ones who set the "murder" in motion. As I understand it I don't think it would have happened without them.
Someone replied to me that Anderton was set up, which I understand...but if he was set up all the way back to the precogs prediction how did Lamar get them to have their "nightmare" in the first place?

The second thing that bothered me was the death of Agatha's mother. Why wasn't Lamar's motives picked up by the precogs...he in fact premeditated a murder as well...we know that Agatha saw the image of the murder but why wasn't a brown ball released with Lamar's name on it?

I'm not attacking the movie...it's one of the better new movies I seen in awhile I just need to know if I missed something in the story.

thanks!

I'm not sure how much it helps answer your questions but here is an explanation i got from Ain't it cool's forum that may help. God knows if i can follow it all.

THE ONLY REASON WHY THE PREVISION FOR ANDERTON AS THE PERPETRATOR CAME TO EXIST 36 HOURS BEFORE THE FACT WAS SIMPLY BECAUSE IT WAS BOTH A CRIME OF PREMEDITATION AND PASSION. THE BEST COP SAID HIMSELF THAT HE AGREED WITH AGATHA, "YOU'RE RIGHT, I AM GOING TO KILL HIM." THE PROPHECY WOULD HAVE BEEN FULFILLED HAD ANDERTON PULLED THE TRIGGER BY THE END OF THE TIME FRAME, END OF DISCUSSION. HOWEVER BECAUSE THE PERPETRATOR HIMSELF SAW HIS OWN FUTURE, THAT FUTURE COULD BE CHANGED CONSCIOUSLY. THE PRECOGS ARE NEVER WRONG AND IN FACT THEY NEVER MISS A THING. ANN LIVELY'S MURDER WAS A PREMEDITATED AFFAIR TWICE IN A ROW. A JUNKIE OFF THE STREET WAS A HIRED GUN BUT BECAUSE HIS INTENTIONAL MURDER WAS STOPPED, BURGESS HAD TO FINISH THE JOB WHICH WAS SEEN BY THE TECHNICIANS AS AN "ECHO." BURGESS MADE HIS ULTIMATE ERROR BY REMOVING AGATHA'S PREVISION OF HIS PERPETRATION WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT REPLACING IT WITH A FORGEROUS ONE IN WHICH CASE WOULDN'T REVEAL HIS IDENTITY AS THE MURDERER. THIS MOVIE MAKES VERY CLEAR POINTS ABOUT HUMAN ERROR: THE PARADOXICAL INADEQUACY OF RETINAL SCANNERS BECAUSE YOU CAN REPLACE YOUR EYEBALLS AND BECAUSE THE SYSTEM CAN'T EVEN BE UPDATED AFTER 36 HOURS!, THE SUFFERINGS OF MANY "CONTAINED PRISONERS" BECAUSE EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THERE MAY BE A MINORITY REPORT AND A LOWLY TECHNICIAN CAN DO NOTHING BUT FOLLOW ROUTINE PROCEDURES MAKING HIM COMPLETELY IGNORANT OVER TIME ( IN FACT THE "JOHN DOE" WHO WAS THE HIRED GUN WAS THE MAN THAT HAD A MINORITY REPORT BECAUSE BURGESS KNEW FULL WELL THAT HIS MURDER WOULD NEVER HAPPEN, HE WOULD BE THE ONE TO FINISH THE JOB AND HENCE THAT WAS "JOHN DOE'S" ALTERNATE FUTURE BUT AT THE SAME TIME BURGESS'S MURDER OF ANN LIVELY WOULD HAVE BEEN FORESEEN POSSIBLY BY ALL THREE OF THE PRECOGS AND A WOODEN BALL WOULD HAVE REVEALED HIS NAME HAD AGATHA'S INCOMING PREVISION NOT BEEN ERASED -- YOU MUST REMEMBER THAT SHE "LEADS" THE OTHER TWO PRECOGS ) THE RIDICULOUSNESS OF THIS MOVIE LIES ONLY HERE: HOW CAN SOMEONE WITH A PREARRANGED MIND LIKE BURGESS HAVE MISSED THE DANGER OF ERASING AGATHA'S PREVISION WITHOUT REPLACING IT AS WELL AS DECLARING ANN LIVELY AS A MISSING PERSON? HE HAD SIX YEARS TO MAKE THE TAMPERING INSUSPECTIBLE BUT BECAUSE TAMPERING IS MOST SUSPECTIBLE WHEN THEY COME IN TWO'S RELATIONSHIPS WERE FINALLY MADE BETWEEN THEM BY THE FED, WIDOW. AS SOMEONE MENTIONED EARLIER THE TOP COP SHOULD HAVE JUST HID AND AFTER 36 HOURS BEEN ABSOLVED OF HIS CRIME BUT AS WIDOW SAID "HE BELIEVE'S HE'S INNOCENT." HOWEVER WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THE TOP COP PURSUE HIS DESTINY FULLY TO THE END? IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR FAR FAR MORE PLAUSIBLE HAD ANDERTON SIMPLY DESTROYED HIS GUN AND OBTAINED THE "SICK STICK" ONLY TO HAVE LEO CROW PRODUCE A GUN AND TEASE ANDERTON INTO KILLING HIM. LEO CROW COULD VERY WELL HAVE BEEN GIVEN A GUN BY BURGESS BUT ALL GUNS IN POSSESSION BY THE PRECRIME DIVISION SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONFISCATED AND BEEN REPLACED BY "SICK STICKS." THE SUCCESS OF THIS BREAKING MOVIE COMES THROUGH ITS SPECTACULAR PREMISE AND THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE INDIVIDUALS WITHIN ITS WORLD BUT THE EXTENT TO WHICH THEY SUCCEED COULD HAVE VERY WELL SPREAD FURTHER

hope it helps.
